Countdown to Extinction: List of Buying IDW 2.0 in the Fewest Purchases Possible

Okay, so for various reasons, I haven't really followed IDW's Transformers comics since the reboot. But now that they're losing the license, it's looking like it's now or never, right? Sure, no doubt someone else will pick up the rights. And maybe they'll republish this stuff at some point, though in what shape (recalling IDW's Marvel reprints here) and when is anyone's guess.

So I plan to load up on all the post-reboot stuff I can get, and I'm going for the simplest route: trades/collections on ComiXology. Er, Amazon Kindle. Whatever.

Here's what I know about:

IDW 2019

Transformers (2019-2022), 6 volumes (includes Galaxies, Escape, Valentine's Day Special, Wreckers: Tread and Circuits, 2021 Annual, Halloween Special, War's End, and Fate of Cybertron)

Misc.

King Grimlock (2021-2022), 1 volume

Transformers: Beast Wars (2021-2022), 3 volumes (includes annual)

Transformers: Last Bot Standing (2022, releases in three days), 1 volume

Transformers: Shattered Glass (2022), 1 volume

Transformers '84 (2021), 1 volume (Takes place in Marvel G1 continuity)

Transformers: Best of the Rarities (2022), 1 volume (various stories)

Transformers 100-Page Giant: Power of the Predacons (2020), 1 volume (various)

Crossovers

Star Trek vs. Transformers (2019), 1 volume

Transformers vs. The Terminator (2021), 1 volume

My Little Pony/Transformers: Friendship in Disguise (2020), 1 volume

Transformers/Back to the Future (2021), 1 volume - Only available in physical print paperback

My Little Pony/Transformers: The Magic of Cybertron (My Little Pony/Transformers II) (2022), 1 volume

And here's where things get a little messy:

Transformers/Ghostbusters (2019), 1 volume - Not Found

Transformers: Shattered Glass II (2022), 5 book series

I can't find any sign of a collection/trade for this one, so you might be stuck having to buy all five issues individually. Especially since the last one doesn't come out until December 14th.

Is that everything? If there's more, let me know in the replies, and I'll add it to this list. (And if someone else wants to make a list for the pre-reboot stuff, go nuts.)

I have to say, as much of a downgrade as Kindle is from ComiXology (I hate not being able to subscribe to books), at least most of the prices seem pretty good.

There was Transformers: Galaxies, a fun little series of shorter stories in the 2.0 universe focused on different characters.

Wreckers: Tread and Circuits, where you can see most of the Legacy and Speedia 500 designs.

I feel like there's a couple more mini-series, but I didn't follow 2.0 that closely...

Thanks, added those!

They might try to do a final Humble Bundle of *everything* before they lose the license?

If so, that’d likely be the absolute cheapest.
I'm not as big a fan of the Humble way, as I like reading on mobile, and they don't have the panel-by-panel formatting that ComiXology does (unless I missed something).

It looks like the side series (Galaxies, Wreckers: Tread and Circuits, and Escape) are included in the 6 volumes you linked:

Vol 1: Transformers #1-12
Vol 2: Transformers #13-18, Galaxies #1-6
Vol 3: Transformers #19-24, Galaxies #7-12
Vol 4: Transformers #25-30, Escape #1-5, the Valentine Day's Special
Vol 5: Transformers #31-36, Wreckers: Tread and Circuits #1-4, 2021 Annual, Halloween Special
Vol 6: Transformers #37-43, War's End #1-4, Fate of Cybertron

And I think that's it for the 2019 continuity.

But you mentioned stuff that's it's own stories as well, Beast Wars, Shattered Glass, etc. Other stuff I can think of that was published after 2019:
- Transformers '84 - meant to fit in with the original Marvel comics as a prequel - 5 issues total, a one shot and "Secrets and Lies" #1-4
- King Grimlock - five issue micro-continuity, sort of a take on sword n' sorcery
- Various crossovers like TF/Terminator, TF/Back to the Future, some MLP stuff?

Magnusblitz's got this. Use his list for most of this stuff.

There should be 3 volumes of the newest Beast Wars comic, too.

Vol. 1: 1-6
Vol. 2: 7-12
Vol. 3: 13-17 and the Annual

The wiki also has a list of every single comic IDW ever published, if you want to stroll down memory lane.

I keep mentioning this, but there is a Best of Rarities one-shot that has some new never before seen stuff in it. I have no idea if it ever got a digital release, though.

Digital is available on Comixology/Amazon: https://amazon.com/dp/B09YS4QXB1

There's also 2020's "Power of the Predacons" 100-page special, which doesn't include anything new, but does reprint a couple of issues that never saw a digital release otherwise: https://amazon.com/dp/B07ZPD41LG

I too am looking to finish my digital collection before year's end. I think I'm only missing King Grimlock and the Back to the Future crossover; however, TF/BTTF does not appear to be available digitally on Amazon anymore. Now I'm never one to advocate piracy (which is ludicrously easy with comics for some reason, how these sites haven't been immediately nuked off the web I will never know) but it's just simple logic that if you won't make content legally available for consumption, it will be consumed by less-legal means. (This, unfortunately, has also been the only way to get your hands on the digital Hasbroverse stuff from IDW 1.0 for a couple of years now.)

NGL, I am waiting until the last minute ish just in case this happens.

Not so much due to price, just that I am very disinclined to give Amazon any money for comics after the CMX disaster.

I get that.

Speaking of which, there's a new program I've been using (did some testing and feature suggestions as well) that takes comics from your Amazon desktop app and converts them to high-quality DRM-free CBZ files (higher quality than downloading and converting via Calibre, my previous method.) You still only get images 1920px high (as opposed to the 3056px downloads IDW provided on Comixology) but it's still the best option if you want to actually *own* your Amazon digital comics.

Try it out here: https://github.com/ToofDerling/CbzMage

Oooh, good stuff! I'll edit the list later, when I've got a little more time and a little less tired. ^^; Thanks!

Okay, I had some of the stuff mentioned there already, like King Grimlock, but I think I got everything else? Again, if I missed something... lemme know!

TBH, I'm relieved that the actual new 2019 continuity itself seemed to be so compact and easy to follow compared to the original continuity -- what a nightmare that was! I loved the stories, but trying to follow it was terrible!

Oooh. I've already bought most, but this might help me fill out the rest (save SGII).

...or not. Figures IDW '19 and BW wouldn't be a part of it.

I know (at least some of) ‘19 is. You have to keep scrolling. It keeps alternating between TF and Joe.

Yeah. I think the first 4 Ruckley omnibuses are there for sure, as are the first couple of BW volumes.

The first 5 of Ruckley's series and the first 2 of Beast Wars are in the sale. I know because I bought all of the volumes a week or two before the sale hit. 🤬🤬

Oh, okay. I'll give it another look; after some scrolling, I just went to the pages, and they were shown as full price.
