Allspark Rules and Guidelines
Welcome to The Allspark. We hope that your visit and stay will be informative and fun. Following are the rules of this forum followed by information about how this place functions.
If you have any questions concerning the rules of this forum, please feel free to contact an admin or moderator to ask, we will be happy to assist you.
Violation of any of the below rules, at the sole discretion of the staff, will result in a single warning point. For each warning received the user will have to acknowledge the warning before being allowed to post again. Sometimes messages are sent by Moderators to members via the PM system, Disabling the PM function or not reading them will not be seen as an excuse.. Once a user has accumulated a total of 3 warning points, that user is permanently banned from the Allspark community.
Some infractions will cause instant termination of your account, such as posting any kind of pornographic content (videos, images, etc), or causing a major disruption in the forums over a long period of time while skirting the letter of the rules but violating the spirit of the rules. Because proxies are frequent sources of commercial spam and other abuse of forum facilities, proxy addresses may be banned at any time and without notice.
Please do not take it upon yourself to be a spelling and grammar cop. With the number of non-English speaking members here, it is to be expected errors will occur. It is fine to be helpful, just please don’t be spiteful.
Thanks for joining our forums!
-The Allspark.com Team
1. Inappropriate Language is not allowed.
The Allspark community is meant for people age 13 and up, and as such, we expect our content to be appropriate for all ages. Posters must refrain from excessive cursing, vulgar comments, sexually explicit, and derogatory language based on race, gender, sexual preference, nationality, or disability. If you do not know whether posting a word will be considered offensive or unacceptable, then don’t post it at all. An auto-censor function has been put in place to help filter out offensive language, i.e : the words you can’t say on primetime TV.
Bypassing the Auto-Censor is not allowed.
Any measures taken to circumvent the auto-censor, such as by using different spellings, 1337-speak, or including the word in an image, will be regarded as the intended word and a warning will be issued.
2. Politics and Religion
The Allspark prides itself on allowing its users to openly discuss almost any topic, including the heavier concepts of religion and politics. We have established a special, restricted-access forum for the discussion and debate of these topics, and posting in here is a privilege which can be indefinitely revoked if the following two criteria are not met:
1) All discussion of politics and religion must be in a frank, professional manner.
2) Criticize the idea, not the person. If you disagree with someone on a fundamental, conceptual level, it is incumbent on you, the user, to avoid the “ad hominem” attack, and counter the other poster’s points. Any attack on the actual poster will be considered a flame by the moderators and the user will be warned.
Spam includes making new threads to advertise other boards or one’s web site, constantly dropping links to a site in all your posting content (with the exception of your signature), and emailing the staff or users’ email with junk mail. It also includes any topics or posts that offer no content or discussion, reposting news articles verbatim without posting any of your own comment, posting in rapid succession (flooding) or otherwise posting blatantly off topic or non-constructive topics. The offending posts/threads will be edited or deleted and a warning will be issued.
Post Count threads.
Threads created for the sole purpose of celebrating a milestone post count (i.e. 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, etc.) are considered spam, as they provide no other content other than for the user to brag. The resulting posts will be locked.
4. Flaming and Flame Baiting.
Any malicious post made merely to provoke a confrontation or to attack another user will be removed, and the offender will be issued a warning. This includes, but is not limited to, condemning other forums, verbal abuse, and posting hate speech. This will not be tolerated at the Allspark. The definition of a flame will be at the sole discretion of the Allspark staff.
Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult or demean another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD.
Flame “baiting” is also against the rules. Using language and/or imagery to goad another user into breaking the rules will result in both parties being warned.
5. Trolling is not allowed.
In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community such as this forum to bait users into responding. They may also plant images and data that others may find disturbing (usually indirectly relating to the individual in person) in order to cause confrontation. The Allspark staff defines trolling as a pattern of behavior where the problem user cajoles, berates, and creates an overall negative impact on the community at large. At the Allspark’s discretion, users found to be trolling will be subject to warnings that do not necessarily fall under the “flaming” banner.
6. Pornography is not allowed.
The posting of pornographic material and/or explicitly worded texts is expressly forbidden. This offense will result in immediate ban from the Allspark Forums. Non-pornographic public discussions of a sexual nature must use the proper, clinical terminology in its correct context. Such discussions must be of a serious nature and should not be intended as an outlet for humor. Additionally, the Allspark hosts a Random Image and a Random Video discussion, both of which have slightly stricter definitions of inappropriate material. Images and video of scantily clad men, women, robots, and/or ponies (yes, we had to add this clause) are not considered appropriate for these two discussion threads, and all violations will be removed and the user issued a warning.
7. Posting Links and Images
The Allspark allows for posting of images in many forums, in your avatars and personal pictures and in your signatures. You may use these functions freely to post any appropriate and on topic images. You may also link to images as long as they are appropriate. If you link to images/sites with inappropriate content, such as swearing and nudity your post will be edited and you will receive a warning.
However, if you link to an external site (hotlinking) you are affirming that you have permission to do so. Typically this is done from photo hosting sites such as Photobucket or cloud storage sites like Dropbox. When linking to any other website you are doing so at your own risk. Images that are hotlinked from another site that are changed into images that are against the rules will be treated as an image that you posted yourself. So if you do hotlink images, do so knowing that you risk the spiteful wrath of malicious webmasters.
It is generally acceptable to link to content even if they have some profanity. (Links may still be removed at a moderator’s discretion if they feel the content is excessive or otherwise inappropriate.) If you are linking to content that does contain some profanity please use an embedded link redirect and be sure it is clearly labeled with a content warning.
Signatures may not be taller than 200 pixels, nor wider than 500 pixels. That includes images AND text. Short text only signatures are exempted from this rule due to the board automatically word-wrapping text within the frame. Signature images sizes should not exceed 500kb (half a megabyte).
To clarify what can and cannot be linked in regards to adult content.
No direct link to nude or sexually suggestive content is allowed. So, make certain that the page you link to is free of such content and or other material that is against this forum’s rules. We take no responsibility for those who go searching further for such material. In addition, we reserve the right to disallow links to some sites all together.
Posting false links as in deliberately misleading other members about what they are clicking on or linking to is forbidden.
Examples of such is posting a screamer and telling them, “Isn’t this cool.”, links to a game such as “you have been bitten” or other such game that gains the posters points or recognition, posting such links will result in a warning. Deliberately posting or linking to malicious or misleading information will result in your account being suspended. Please note that this include such links in signatures as well as the text of a post. Links to Tunak Tun are allowed.
8. Unsolicited Advertising is not allowed.
Please do not create threads to advertise your podcast/forum/website/You Tube/shoe and clothing site/male enhancement pill/etc without permission. Images and links in signatures are allowed provided they adhere to the specified signature and link guidelines. We will make exceptions however, as many people like to post links to websites showing off their work, or linking to something funny or a link to illustrate a point. We do not allow threads to be created for things such as classified advertising for business, or buying/selling, swapping, general items outside of the Buy*Sell*Trade forum (BST). Video reviews and custom figure selling are also permitted but we require all reviews/galleries to be posted in the body of the thread; posts consisting solely of links to a Youtube page, review blog, or Ebay are not permitted and will be removed. If you aren’t sure if your promotion qualifies as an exception please ask a Moderator or Administrator before you post it.
9. Illegal Activity
Security of the site is something we take very seriously here at The Allspark. Any user, whether registered or not, caught attempting to gain any privileges or access beyond their usergroup, regardless of the means (hacks, scripts, exploits, obtaining control of another user’s accounts, etc) will be immediately banned, including IP bans for any IP used to access the site. Furthermore, all relevant information will be turned over to the authorities. This is the one policy that is truly ZERO TOLERANCE.
Discussing or linking to P2P content within this forum is prohibited.
Given the nature of these resources and their use with piracy, under no circumstances can they be linked to within our forums. Violations of these rules will result in a warning or account suspension.
Bittorrent links and discussion are prohibited within our forums. Violations relating to bittorrent content will result in a warning/suspension. Users may link to youtube content that is appropriate and on topic as youtube itself polices its content.
Similarly, posts promoting other illegal activities are not tolerated within the forums. This includes indicating knowledge of or being witness to unreported illegal activities. Such knowledge should be reported to the authorities not posted on a forum.
10. Posting about moderator or administrator action or inaction is also against the rules of this forum.
Please feel free however to contact the moderator involved, another moderator you feel comfortable with, our community manager Wheelimus or another admin if you disagree with a moderator action. Our moderators do not mind taking a second look or discussing an action with the other moderators and admin to assure they have acted fairly. So if you think you’ve been treated wrongly or that unfairly, be sure to send a PM. Sometimes moderators make mistakes.
On occasions a moderator will edit content from a post and leave a reason for the edit. Replacing or re-editing that post will result in a warning and suspension. If you have a problem or want to know further details for the reason please contact the moderator concerned.
11. Other Issues.
Generally, when a new comic book, movie or television show has been released the discussion topic about that book/movie/show will be assumed to have spoilers within as long as it has already aired. If it hasn’t been released yet anything that could potentially be considered a spoiler should be masked with the spoiler tags available in the post screen. Users who deliberately spoil shows, movies or books in other topics, in signatures will be warned for trolling. If you don’t wish to be spoiled about a particular upcoming series or event, be cautious about entering topics specifically about the subject, as discussions can carry on for weeks or months prior to release and may contain spoilers, and almost certainly will once the release date has passed.
When linking to off-site news articles, the reposting of the entire text of the article is not permitted, due to international copyright law. Just as the Allspark would wish its material not to be republished without our consent, we also respect the intellectual property of news gathering agencies and require any links to news sites not republish the entire text.
Alternate IDs are simply different board accounts used by the same person. More often than not, people use them to great comedic effect, but if it’s discovered that a banished poster is using another ID with which to post, the name, email address, and IP address may be banned. Also note that users are not allowed to make “parody” accounts based on staff member usernames or with industry creators. This can cause confusion with the userbase on whether this is the actual staff or someone else. Also, in the past we’ve had problems with malicious “spoofs” used as a way to attack a staff member someone doesn’t like. All such accounts will be banned, and the person who made it will receive an official warning.
Maintenance of User Accounts
User accounts require active email addresses to complete registration, so this must be accounted for when creating a new account. And if alternate IDs are created, each account requires a different address. The address you put on the account will receive any and all user mailings that are sent by the Allspark staff, and any attempt at password recovery will require an active address. In short, it is in your best interest to maintain a valid email address with any account you create.
All users of The Allspark should be aware that things that occur in real life, either if they are directly or indirectly linked to occurrences on The Allspark, that the administrators cannot be held responsible, nor can they punish or ban users without proof that abuse has actually occurred on The Allspark itself. We advise that all users of The Allspark, in common with all other forms of anonymous Internet communication, should follow some basic safety guidelines:
• NEVER give out your real life personal details (Home address, telephone number, etc) to anyone you do not know in real life – Even if you’ve known them ‘virtually’ for a long time, they may not be who you think they are.
• NEVER forget that others may adopt ‘Internet Personas’ which may or may not correspond to their real life personas. In other words, don’t believe all you read!
• REMEMBER, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
If something is happening in real life as a result of the occurrences of not following the above guidelines, please note, we can only advise that you get in touch with the Police, or whatever other Authorities you can (such as the offender’s Internet Provider) and pass on the information you know. We can only act upon punishable offenses we see and have proof of on The Allspark. IMPORTANT: The administrators of The Allspark will *NOT* see fit to punish possible users who use *NON* Allspark related incidents in order to cause spite or punishment of other possible users. To punish a user requires solid proof that the user did do something wrong, and that proof needs to be visible to other administrators on The Allspark website.
Creating threads regarding another user’s account
We do not allow discussion of users accounts in threads. If you have any questions regarding the account of a user who is for some reason unable to access these forums, please send a Personal Message (PM) to a moderator or administrator.
Creating a thread or bringing up a banned user’s account is not allowed.
If there is another reason that they can’t access their account for one reason or another please ask us directly and we will look into it. Similarly, we do not allow public discussions concerning peoples warnings, warning level or banned status. This includes discussing your own warnings.
Creating threads about other threads, or locked threads
We do not allow threads to be created about other threads, this constitutes cross-posting or advertising. We also do not allow threads to be made about why something has been locked. If you want to know why a thread has been locked you should PM a moderator, it should not be discussed on the forums. If a thread is locked you should also not re-post it (unless you have moderator permission to do so).
Often a thread will be locked before a moderator types an explanation, so it is best to wait a few minutes before contacting a mod if no reason has been posted for the lock.
Proxy IP Addresses and Spambots
Proxies are frequent sources of commercial spam and other abuse of forum facilities, proxy addresses may be banned at any time and without notice, and members using a banned proxy address will have no recourse but to find a different way to access the forums. Any member persistently using a proxy IP will have their account closed. Further, accounts created solely for the purposes of spamming/advertising will be immediately flagged as a spam account and banned along with their IP addresses.
At The Allspark we understand that not every situation is black and white and occasionally moderators may witness users acting out of frustration of a topic that hits close to home or something someone is very passionate about. Also, some infractions may be so minor as not to require a warning but still require a thread be edited (or *scrubbed*). In these cases a 0 point warning may be issued at the discretion of the moderators. This means that the infraction won’t count against one of the 3 strikes to be banned, but will be recorded on the user’s warning log. Keep in mind that if a moderator determines that there are simply ‘too many’ of these types of 0 point infractions, a warning may be issued for a full point due to the perceived pattern of disruptive behavior.
