Sure, call it a comeback: Toys R Us to return with smaller-scale stores?
As reported by the New York Post, Toys R Us looks to be making a return to operations, albeit with smaller stores than those familiar with the brand might remember.
The Post reports that there are plans for licensing firm Tru Kids Brands, formed last year after TRU’s 2017 bankruptcy filing, to open US stores at a size of 10,000 square feet each, in time for the holidays. For some scale and comparison, typical stores from the older stores tended to cover 20,000 to 50,000 square feet. Tru Kids may well be able to put together the familiar elements of the TRU experience, as they have the rights to the Toys R Us and Babies R Us brands, as well as to the Geoffrey the Giraffe mascot character.
