The Spark in Review: November 23, 2018

The Spark in Review is the week’s news unboxed. This week, Siege Wave 1 Micromasters have appeared in video reviews, Flame Toys have revealed full color images of their IDW Megatron kit, Optimus Prime showed up at a major Thanksgiving parade, and we’ve rolled out our IDW Transformers retrospective on the occasion of the conclusive Optimus Prime #25.

Toy News and Reveals:

There’s a bit of War for Cybertron: Siege news this week as the Wave 1 Micromaster Autobot Car Patrol and Battle Patrol and Decepticon Air Patrol have received video reviews. Meanwhile, we’ve launched our own gallery and review of Power of the Primes Optimal Optimus.

Outside the usual action figure space, Flame Toys have revealed their licensed Furai IDW Megatron model kit, a nontransforming but fully articulated and sharp likeness of the character as he appeared in More than Meets the Eye and Lost Light.

In deals and availability, we reported an Amazon sale on Masterpiece MPM-5 Barricade that has since increased slightly in price. Meanwhile, Ollie’s advertised for Black Friday sales prices on The Last Knight Deluxes today apparently including Cogman. An eBay collector toy holiday catalogue made a nod to vintage Transformers collecting among other franchises, and finally, there has been at least one case of a Power of the Primes Wreck-Gar erroneously ringing up for a $1.89 sale price.

Comics, Games, and Media:

IDW have released their comics shipping list for November 28, as well as full previews for Go-Bots #1 and Optimus Prime #25, the latter of which, the final capstone of the IDW Transformers (and Hasbro generally) universe, we covered in our own spoiler-free review and retrospective. We also interviewed John Paras, the artist behind the retailer-exclusive editions of Unicron #6. Meanwhile, Escapist Magazine took their own last step with the IDW Transformers universe in an article on its complicated Megatron.

Hasbro launched still another trailer for the upcoming Bumblebee in a new form via The Play-Doh Show, a quirky adaptation of one of the film’s existing trailers into the world of animate putty. They’ve also launched Cyberverse Episode 12, “Teletraan X”, to their YouTube channel.

In gaming news, we unboxed the Transformers TCG Metroplex Deck on our YouTube channel, and Transformers: Earth Wars has released details for this weekend’s solo event for Prime Core shards.

Fandom and Events:

It’s a very small note on a very large robot, but the America’s Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit featured an evergreen-style Optimus Prime in parade balloon form. It seems rude to point out that Autobots can’t generally fly.
