The Spark in Review: November 16, 2018
The Spark in Review is the week’s news at Allspark in heartfelt retrospective. With just Optimus Prime #25 still to come, we released our review of Unicron #6, while details are out on the new Earth Wars triplechangers, and a couple of second chances have popped up for the Power of the Primes toyline’s heavy hitters.
After the recent round of reveals from War for Cybertron: Siege, BotBots, and Studio Series, there hasn’t been much in the way of new toy reveals this week, but new high-res images of the Casio collaboration G-Shock x Transformers Optimus Prime watch have been released by TakaraTomy. The figure and watch combo transform from an Optimus Prime robot into a stand displaying the watch itself, and a Matrix-inspired cover can clip over the watch face in either mode.
In some availability news, Power of the Primes Optimus Primal has shown up in stock at Hasbro Toy Shop, and Predaking became available on Amazon under a pair of discounts that knock $40 off the purchase price.
The big events this week have been in comics, with the IDW universe one issue away from closure, and the latest issues representing for many fans a fond farewell for the saga. IDW have released their shipping list as usual for November 21, and full previews for Star Trek vs. Transformers #2 and (with a bit more gravity) Unicron #6, of which we’ve released a spoiler review. It’s been an emotional parting; the end of Transformers: Lost Light even prompted an article from the BBC.
Less happy partings in comics this week came with the loss of Stan Lee, likely the most iconic comic creator in the industry and certainly one of the most influential, at age 95.
In a demonstration of how science fiction can build engagement with real science, the San Diego Comic Art Gallery is set to hold an event this evening featuring Transformers writers John Barber and Brandon Easton, artist Livio Ramondelli, and mechanical and aerospace engineering professor Sonia Martinez Diaz to discuss the intersection of science and Transformers fiction and might provide some insights into the IDW universe’s treatment of its science fiction elements.
Per the usual, Transformers: Cyberverse Episode 11, “Sabotage”, has been released on YouTube.
In gaming news, Transformers: Earth Wars has revealed the details of this weekend’s leaderboard event, showcasing the newly released triplechangers Sandstorm and Octone.
