Neon Genesis Evangelion Coming to Netflix!
After years of having its western distribution rights caught up in legal limbo, the classic 90s anime Neon Genesis Evangelion is finally returning to the US courtesy of Netflix!
The streaming service first publicized their acquisition of Evangelion through a short trailer posted on their various social media channels, which you can view below. The Eva TV series was originally published in the US by ADV Films, who held the license until their closure in 2009. While many of the titles they owned the rights to were acquired by various other anime distributors, Evangelion remained up in the air, aside from the Rebuild of Evangelion remake films distributed by Funimation. Thankfully though, the rights to this indisputably classic anime have finally been rescued!
In addition to the 26 episode Evangelion TV series, Netflix has also confirmed they’ve acquired the rights to the two original Evangelion movies Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. No specific date has been announced for when they’ll go up on the streaming service, but Netflix gives the estimated time frame of Spring 2019.
Perhaps one of the most influential and popular anime series of all time, plenty of digital and actual ink has been spilled espousing the virtues of the series. So rather than trying to spell it all out here, here’s a picture of the Convoy Mode “Eva” repaint of MP-10 Convoy. The rest you can find out for yourself!
