The Spark in Review: September 7, 2018

The Spark in Review is the week’s news at Allspark repackaged for market six distribution. This week, Metroplex hits the Transformers TCG and new characters appear in Earth Wars and Forged to Fight, new images released for Legendary Optimus Prime while Golden Lagoon Convoy and PotP Novastar and Punch-Counterpunch appear in hand, and Titan Masters have appeared at Five Below.
Toy News and Reviews:
There were no major new toy announcements or reveals this week, but we were treated to some new looks at upcoming movie-universe product. Early this week, we got another round of photos from Fan Expo Toronto 2018, including upcoming Studio Series figures like Sideswipe, WWII Bumblebee, and Barricade (as well as some new Marvel and Star Wars reveals). We also saw a round of high-quality stock images of Legendary Optimus Prime, the apparent enhanced and upscaled Age of Extinction Evasion Optimus Prime to be released in the Bumblebee movie toyline.
In the Prime Wars Trilogy world, video reviews have surfaced for Power of the Primes Novastar, and Amazon exclusive Punch-Counterpunch, which seems for many fans to be the capstone for the line, has made his way into some fans’ hands and in-hand galleries.
The “lucky-draw” style TakaraTomy exclusive Golden Lagoon Masterpiece Convoy has also appeared in an in-hand photo gallery, and TakaraTomy has revealed their Tomica diecast car renditions of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee from The Last Knight.
For some deals and finds, Titans Return Titan Master sets have been appearing at the discount store Five Below, including harder to find Masters like Ramhorn. Meanwhile, HasbroToyShop’s End of Summer Sale continues until the end of the weekend with up to 20% off on much of their Transformers stock, with some notable (cough Predaking) exceptions.
Comics, Cartoons, and Media:
IDW have released their shipping list for September 12, as well as the full previews for Unicron #4 and Optimus Prime #23. We’ve also released our own spoiler review for Lost Light #23. The IDW universe continues to accelerate with only two months to go before it all ends.
There’s been some interesting gaming news this week as Metroplex was introduced into the Wizards of the Coast Transformers TCG, while Wizards have also announced a Dungeons & Dragons themed card game of the non-collectible variety.
In the more video-enhanced kind of games, Transformers: Forged to Fight has introduced Cyclonus, while Earth Wars is set to introduce the original characters Sentius Magnus and Sentius Malus. The Earth Wars team have also announced event details for the weekend.
Finally, in something a bit different, Paizo Inc. has launched Against the Aeon Throne, the first part in a Starfinder role play adventure, “Reach of the Empire”.
In one small piece of Bumblebee movie news, a fan snapped up a video of an animated Bumblebee movie standee in a movie theater lobby.
Fandom and Events:
ScrewAttack released their teased Optimus Prime vs. Gundam Death Battle, the second appearance of a Transformers character after Starscream battled the aerial menace Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Prime battles the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam in an epic animated blowout empowered by ScrewAttack’s usual comic and cartoon research and references.
