The Spark in Review: August 17, 2018

The Spark in Review is the week’s news at Allspark in commemorative reissue form. This week, the Transformers trading card game from Wizards of the Coast has revealed characters, cards, and gameplay mechanics, the first Cyberverse episode clip has been revealed, and Novastar, the last Power of the Primes Deluxe, has finally appeared at US retail.

Toy News and Reveals:
Power of the Primes Deluxe Wave 4, containing the very last new figure of the Deluxe assortment, has landed, meaning that Novastar has been sighted in the US. The hunt for this final-wave figure may prove to be a tricky one if past lines are any indication.
Meanwhile, in Singapore, an advertisement aired for the Cyberverse Action Attackers Bumblebee and Grimlock. In combination with the episode clip just released and the rollout of figures in the US, it seems safe to say that Cyberverse is rolling out.
In exclusives news, TakaraTomy released a massive gallery of their upcoming Encore Unicron, the Unicron of Light rendition of the 2003 figure.
A curious piece of history appeared for sale on Amazon in the form of a set of packaging art proofs for the Beast Wars Microverse Orcanoch playset, a unique piece for someone’s Beast Wars collection and an insight into the process behind production in the era.
In another look at the workings of toy companies, while details are scant, the Hasbro vs. DC Comics trademark dispute over the name “Bumblebee” has been settled. DC’s female superhero Bumblebee has appeared in various forms in Mattel’s recent DC Super Hero Girls line.
Outside Transformers, Funko’s second Savage World lineup featuring classic horror icons in Masters of the Universe style has launched for preorder, as has the Mutant & Monster Mayhem Show’s exclusive Tezca Guard figure for the Animal Warriors of the Kingdom line.

Comics, Cartoons, and Media:
Comics news this week is brief, but IDW have released their shipping list for August 22, including Unicron #4, the first Sonic the Hedgehog trade installment, and Volume 3 of the Classic Star Wars Newspaper Comics collection.
In other media, Cartoon Network has released a short segment from (likely) the first episode of the Cyberverse cartoon, featuring Bumblebee, Windblade, and Thundercracker and offering our first real look at the show’s animation, style, and characters. Similarly, Disney released a trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Resistance, the cel-shaded CGI successor to Star Wars: Rebels.
In movie news, the Jeep prop said to be Bumblebee’s initial alternate form in the upcoming film appeared for auction at

In gaming news, the recently revealed Transformers TCG from Wizards of the Coast, rolling out next month, looks to be a unique and interesting system, and quite a bit of information has come out this week. We’ve released an interview with Drew Nolosco from GenCon 2018 explaining the game’s design and system in depth, plus a review of some of the double-size character cards, while the game’s Facebook group has released a look at some of the regular-size action and upgrade cards representing the characters’ actions and abilities.
On one final gaming note, Transformers: Earth Wars has posted event details for the weekend, including a chance at a new Prime Core Avatar.
