Jerrod Carmichael Interview with Hollywood Reporter
Hollywood Reporter’s Mia Galuppo posted an interview yesterday with comedian Jerrod Carmichael about his experience playing Jimmy for Transformers: The Last Knight, including a note on acting for the international audience. Carmichael discusses acting in a blockbuster film, which he describes as a “learning experience”; working in an established franchise generally, an experience he enjoyed but won’t repeat; and acting in a Michael Bay film specifically, echoing previous’ Transformers actors’ comments on the physical endurance required. Possibly most interesting, Carmichael explains the need to adjust his comedy for the international audience and China specifically.

In a similar discussion with Collider, also released yesterday, Carmichael explains the on-set experience and working with Michael Bay in more detail, dispelling Bay’s image as a difficult taskmaster.
Attentiveness to the international audience seems prudent. Domestically, The Last Knight opened short of expectations and remains well behind Age of Extinction, but the opening in China is thus far well ahead of the already record-breaking previous installment’s.
