Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime Gallery!
The Titans have returned! At this moment fans all over the country are getting their first taste of Titans Return merchandise. I’m still waiting on quite a bit myself (come on Fortress Maximus), but when my leader case arrived, I knew Optimus was the first thing I wanted to check out.
Powermaster Optimus Prime was always my favorite version of the G1 character. He was a classic update that really kept the spirit of Prime while improving on the toy. I feel like the same thing has happened with Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime. This is the best Prime to date. Although this is a heavy remold of the Generations Ultra Magnus figure, it feels like a new mold. The feet and legs pose better, the weapons are easier to place in his hands, and the cab transforms in a completely different way. Add to that how solid the trailer looks in vehicle mode and it might as well not even be the same figure.
There are only a couple of things that I don’t really like about him. Number one, the Titan figure cannot be used as a head sans helmet if you want to maintain neck rotation. Once the helmet goes up, articulation is gone. Number two (and this is a BIG one), I am very worried about the thin plastic used on the panels that form the trailer. Some of them require a good amount of pressure to pop out of place during transformation from vehicle to robot, and I fear that they will eventually form stress marks. I have never had to worry in general about the thinness of plastic in Transformers and I hope this is not a taste of things to come.
That being said, this is still an awesome figure. He’s dynamic, impressively classic looking, and quite possibly the best version of Optimus Prime we have ever received. Any reservations aside, based on Powermaster Optimus Prime alone, I am very much looking forward to the rest of this line and seeing things that have not yet been revealed. We are definitely in for a treat, and I have to thank the Hasbro and Takara designers for what they have created for Titans Returns.
