Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger coming to TV!
Make some room on your PVR, because the Marvel TV Universe is about to get a little bigger! Cloak and Dagger are heading to the small screen.
The series has no writers or casting attached yet, but will be heading to ABC’s Freeform network. From Variety:
Described as a superhero love story, “Cloak and Dagger” is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including “Spiderman” and “X-Men” stories.
The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
Interesting for fans, this series announcement settles any debate that might’ve existed regarding Cloak and Dagger’s status as mutants; while they weren’t originally introduced as Marvel mutants when they debuted in the pages of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man in 1982, a 1990s retcon suggested the pair’s superpowers were indeed latent mutations activated by experimentation. This may have made their film rights part of the 20th Century Fox deal (or at least ambiguous like Quicksilver) but Marvel going ahead with this series seems to put that to rest.
