“Hard Boiled”

This is the big finish! The Autobirds and the Deceptihogs team up to get the Eggspark and its crazy powers off Piggy Island before the out-of-control events get out-of-controller! War is fought! Enemies become allies! Allies become problematic! Jokes are made! Plots are hatched! So are eggs!

This is another one of those issues that’s tough to talk about without giving spoilers. Finales are weird like that, almost like they’re the climax of a story or something. Crazy.

I will say again that this comic took me by total surprise. I wasn’t very interested, I don’t like Angry Birds, it looked really goofy, and… apparently that part of my brain was beat up by the part of my brain that just wanted something fun. I began looking forward to every issue. I’m a little sad to see that it’s over. I might even buy the trade. I still have no idea how Barber and Ferreira made that happen!

If you’ve been ignoring this book, you missed out. It’s basically a Looney Tunes parody of our favorite alien robots, a winking love letter that’s genuinely funny and action-packed and delights in subverting everything you know about Transformers.

Favorite Exchange:
“This, uh, this wasn’t part of the plan, was it?”
“Of course not!”
“No, yeah, I didn’t think so. I just hoped I maybe missed something.”
–Megatron Pig and Optimus Prime Bird discuss current events.
