Digital Tearing Up Chicago for “Dark of the Moon”

{mosimage}Here's a bit of something for special effects fans that enjoyed the computer mayhem in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, like the Driller tearing apart the skyscraper in Chicago during the film's climax. THEDAILY.com caught up with visual effects supervisor Scott Farrar and digital production designer Nigel Sumner of Industrial Light & Magic, and both spoke that they basically shot the actual skyscraper and real references before cutting the computers loose. Just for an idea of how much computing power was required, one single frame of the falling tower shot took 36 hours to complete.
