Auto Assembly got some press coverage from BBC Birmingham! Simon Plumbe, organizer of Auto Assembly, spoke of wanting to break their attendance record to 500 and the creation of Auto Assembly.

"The first Auto Assembly event was held in October 2000 and was a spin-off idea from the Star Trek fan club that we were running at the time," he remembers. "Former Auto Assembly team member Sven Harvey came up with the idea of a Transformers version of our Star Trek club meetings and it started there as a small-scale gathering of fans, but it snowballed into a full-scale convention in its own right in 2003 when we had over 230 people attend!"
