Upcoming Transformers Parodies In Film & Print
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then parody is the sincerest form of mockery. And apparently Transformers is going to be awfully sincerely mocked in both a new comic book from Top Shelf, and an upcoming movie from Screen Gems.
First up is the comic book The Incredible Change-Bots, a 144-page graphic novel due in July from Top Shelf and writer/artist Jeffrey Brown. The 6-page preview on Top Shelf's site shows that many of the cliches from G1 are skewered in the book, from comically literal robot names to laser blasts that consistently fail to kill anyone (clearly, this is not a parody of the 1986 movie). Thanks to Stackups Immy for posting the link to the book in this thread.
Additionally, Cinematical reports that Screen Gems is developing a new movie parodying the disaster film genre. Armageddagain: The Day Before Tomorrow is expected to lampoon the upcoming astf, among many others. It's being directed by Robert Moniot, who has already built experience parodying Michael Bay's work for his short film Pearl Harbor II: Pearlmageddon. Variety reports the film will be released sometime in 2008.
