Transformers News, Games and Comics!
The original Transformers Legends line came to a close in Japan back in 2019, and with it ended the manga which told the story of why every single new attempt made over the years to create more cartoon-accurate toys is actually canon to their version of Generation 1, where the characters already looked like the characters to begin with, and oh, I've gone cross-eyed. In all seriousness, though: It looks like TakaraTomy are continuing their Transformers Legends line with Transformers New Legends, which... well, features new Legends toys. And stories! With it comes a new manga titled "The Transformers: End of G1 Universe". Catchy, huh? If you're wondering why it says "Chapter 2" in the above image, however, it's because the two parts of the first chapter were originally published back in 2022 to promote the Masterpiece release of Dark Amber Leo Prime early the following year. But since that Masterpiece line is now kaput, they've shifted the story over to, well, this. As one might infer from the title, this story takes place after the events of The Transformers: Beast Wars Neo, and this episode even cuts back to the closing moments of the final battle of that show in the opening, which also predates the aforementioned first chapter -- basically, the new one is telling us how we got there. You can check out the original Japanese language version over on TakaraTomy's official website, but if you can't make heads or tails of what it's saying, then good news! Thanks to Sabrblade, we have an English translation posted over on our forums! (There's at least one other floating around, but this one's a little more polished.) The first page is above, but there's 17 more just waiting for you! Feel free to talk about this episode here, or the series as a whole over in the "New TakaraTomy Legends Line" thread in our forums! After another week off, it's time for another week on Cyberworld! For "Hider & Seeker," the YouTube description is thus: Check it out: As an added bonus, Sabrblade says that the game scenes -- yes, only those -- from episodes 6, 2, 8, and 11 are attached afterward. Eh, makes more sense than running the previous three episodes backwards, at least. Anyway, here's my spoiler-filled recap and thoughts: Feel free to talk about this episode here, or the series as a whole over in the "Transformers 2 Cyber 2 World" thread in our forums! We've heard speculation. We've heard rumors. We've heard hints. Now, we see. TFW2005 member Nune, who we will remember from last month's big leak, has revealed stock images of Generations Selects Monstructor, a gift set comprised of a quite extensive remold of Transformers Legacy United Dinoking, itself a remold of Legacy United Volcanicus. The Monster Pretenders here have brand new alt modes that are... quite fitting for the characters at least. The originals are roughly the size of Micromasters and no more complicated than that. I for one find that the goofy charm of the original is quite well preserved. Now excuse me while I press F5 until Hasbro makes the official announcement and preorders begin. Join the Allspark today.

From Joshua Reese on Transformers Botposting on Facebook, we have our first look at Season 2 Transformers Cyberworld figures. The photos feature both toys present at NY Toy Fair as well as some renders. The toys feature some returning characters as well as some new to the toyline. All include translucent sections representing an Energon Surge as the theme of the line. See the gallery below for a first look at these upcoming toys! Want to talk about these upcoming figures? Looks like Transformers: Cyberworld had graduated from a mere stopgap filler line to a [Note to self: Come back and insert something witty here later. --LBD] line! IGN reports that Transformers: Cyberworld, the little line that was said to only be here to fill in the gap until Hasbro had an idea of what to do after abandoning Earthspark early, is going into extra innings with a second season slated to debut on YouTube in August 2026. Here's the synopsis: To that end, the second season comes with a potential subtitle to reflect the new importance the Transformers' life force plays in this chapter of the saga: "Energon Surge"! To that end, a new Bumblebee "Power Spark" figure will be released this Summer based on a new form he'll take as a result of this new surge of energon: This 11-inch figure (no telling yet whether he'll get an accompanying growth spurt in the show, but that would be cool) transforms in four steps, has lights and sounds, and his weapons combine to form a nifty little drone that resembles an insect of some unknown variety. Possibly a wasp... Anyway, this Bee will buzz for you once you lay down $54.99 USD And just for funsies, here are some stock images of Bumblebee in his original and recently-upgraded Cyberworld forms, which he can switch between freely. Think Power Spark will effectively make him a triple-changer? And since you probably want the full monty, here's the promo image for the upcoming season in its entirety: Sources: IGN, via Tformers, via Steevy Maximus. You know, like we usually do. Only we don't have to do it alone this time! Beginning at 10am (presumably EST) on Saturday, February 14th, Hasbro Pulse is hosting a watch along as they stream Valentine's themed episodes from the original Transformers cartoon! Now, I don't remember any being specifically themed towards Valentine's Day, but there were a few romantic ones sprinkled about in there. So join in, and cheer as Powerglide gets the girl! Cry as Seaspray parts ways with the one girl who can put up with his gargling voice! Laugh as Ultra Magnus says "I've never seen anything this beautiful in the entire galaxy... All right, give me the bomb." Cry again as you're reminded of when Season 5 left weekday syndication for Saturday mornings with Puppetmaster Optimus Prime, and that's how the show went out! It all happens tomorrow morning on the Hasbro Pulse YouTube Channel! Or, if you insist on being alone, I guess maybe you can just watch it via the embed here. Or turn off the chat there, whatever works for you. [/SPOILER] Allspark Forums Discord Server Twitter/X Facebook Page Bluesky Instagram
In Lessons Swiftly Learned And Never (Or Repeatedly) Forgotten news, the 40th anniversary of the 1986 The Transformers: The Movie is under way, and Hasbro has decided to celebrate it in a unique, and perhaps appropriate, way. Bitter children of the 80s Fans everywhere may be delighted to discover that Hasbro is embarking on The Apology Tour, a cheeky playful celebration of the franchise's animated classic and its role in killing Optimus Prime escalating the age-old battle between Autobots and Decepticons. This tour includes "special fan events and screenings" across the year, a slew of cool 86-movie-related Studio Series product, and apparently even more from Hasbro AND partners like Super 7, Jada Toys, Culture Fly, and beyond! Perhaps best of all, one thing that might smooth over any lingering hurt feelings is the chance to have THE TOUCH. Hasbro is finally releasing an official roleplay Matrix of Leadership that opens, glows, charges, AND plays "The Touch"! You know the song, you know the lyrics! (Shhh... don't forgive them yet. Let's see what we can get if we hold out!) Allspark Forums Discord Server Twitter/X Facebook Page Bluesky Instagram
From Nune at TFW2005, we have our first look at Wave 2 of Studio Series '86 figures. Featured in this wave are: Kranix, the Lithonian who famously slipped away from Unicron only to be devoured by Sharkticons on Quintessa: He converts from Lithonian Scientist to the spaceship mode previously only seen in the Marvel comics. Astrotrain, a brand new take on the character that converts between robot, space shuttle and train mode. It has yet to be revealed if Studio Series Devastator can be assembled inside of him in shuttle mode. Shockwave, which appears to be a remold of the previous Siege version of the character without the additional armor/parts. Skywarp, adding to the SS'86 Seeker group And finally Sunstreaker and Wheeljack who appear to be rereleases of the Earthrise versions of the molds. Bits and pieces have been coming out about since last year, but now Takara (by way of their "T-Spark" YouTube channel) has dropped a new trailer on us to get a better look at what this new breed of Transformers is all about. From the description: Here's the video, and fortunately, there are English captions to help us follow along: While the designs seem to fall between the complexities of the Michael Bay movie style and the "that actually looks like a face" aesthetic of most other incarnations of the series, this showcase with Ironhide and Blackout definitely seems to be going for a more "real" approach, right down to the weapons they're carrying. No space-lasers, energo-swords, or fantastic powers here -- just lots of hot lead, and maybe a knife or two. Oh, and as little color as possible. Incidentally, little clue as to what "Overgear" means in the context of the story, unless that's the term for breaking out all of those big guns and stuff. For those interested in learning more, it appears that the T-Spark crew will be showing a "pre-recorded streaming and visitors display event" video on Friday, February 13th at 8pm JST: As you can see from the thumbnail, it looks like one of the topics may be discussion of Overgear, among other things. Thanks to PrimalxConvoy for the tips! So, what do you think? Is it a little too "real" for you, or is this just the shake-up the brand needs as we look to the future? Feel free to discuss it here, as well as in the "Japanese Transformers News" thread in our forums! Allspark Forums Discord Server Twitter/X Facebook Page Bluesky Instagram

Like many of you G1 fans, I grew up in the 1980s and 90s, when the kids toy aisles were dominated by GI JOE and Transformers. Yet a new toy was coming to change the entire way we played, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It's hard to believe, but Nintendo was synonymous with gaming in the 1980s and early 1990s. Sega had not shown up to challenge it with its 16-bit Genesis, and Atari's desperate attempts to compete with their 5200 and the 7800 were pitiful at best. Unless you had a PC, Nintendo meant video games and vice versa. Now, a lot of franchises had at least one Nintendo video game. Franchises like the Flintstones, The Incredible Crash test dummies, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Tiny Toons, the jetsons, the Simpsons, Felix the cat, Spiderman, X-men, Robocop, Batman, Star Wars, and many more franchises had games on the NES. Heck, TMNT had 4 games on the NES and GI JOE, Hasbro's other big property, had two games itself! So why wasn't there a Transformers game on the NES? Well, there was, sort of. There were actually two G1 Transformers games released for the Nintendo in the 1980s, but both of them were only released in Japan for their Nintendo Famicom, which was their version of the NES. The first game, which is probably the most well known of the two games, was called Mystery of Convoy. It was released in 1986 as regular Famicom cartridge game, and is known for its extreme difficulty. You play as Ultra Magnus, making your way through various levels, trying to avoid seekers, and other Decepticons blasting you. You can transform at any time, and will need to do so every now and then to proceed. Eventually, you make it to the boss fight, which most of the time is a giant Decepticon logo. However, you do fight Bruticus, Menasor, Megatron, and Trypticon as bosses as well. The game, while probably the best G1 Transformer game of the 1980s, could have used some tweaks, like a life bar that allowed you to take more than one hit would have made the game much more enjoyable. Still, the game never was published in the US, and only found its way over here via emulation and Famicom importers. You can check out the full gameplay below: The second G1 game, called Transformers: The Headmasters, was released the following year in 1987 in Japan for the Famicom disk system. For those not aware, the Famicom disk system was an add-on disk drive for the Famicom that allowed it to play disk-based games instead of the usual cartridge based games we were all used to playing. This was necessary at the time to keep up with demand for games, as the cartridge games required computer chips that were in short supply at the time. Lots of notable game series were released his way in Japan, such as Zelda 1 and 2, Castlevainia, Super Mario Bros 2, Kid Icarus, and Metroid to name a few! I suspect that Transformers: The Headmaster isn't well known due to it being one of the nearly two hundred Disk System games instead of a cartridge. You unlock a few Transformers by rescuing them in the levels. The are two types of levels. One where you play in Vehicle mode, blasting things as you drive or fly along the surface of each world, with each transformer having a different alt mode and different firing angles. The second level type has you in a generic robot mode, that looks nothing like any Transformer, going underground while blasting various things in locked rooms to go to the next room until you reach a boss, who is just a color pallet swap of a generic character. Then at the end, you and your rescued Autobots will all jump inside Metroplex, and fight Scorponok. It's not that great of a game. In fact, if you told me that it was originally a different IP altogether and made into a Transformers game like they did with Super Mario Bros 2, I would believe you. As very little in this game has to do with Transformers. For example, I could swap seven art assets out of the game and it would no longer be a Transformer game. I can definitely see why they left this one in Japan. Check out the full gameplay below: While we did get a couple of G1 Transformer games on early PCs like the Commadore 64 in the US, none of them are really that great. In fact, it wasn't until many years and many attempts later that we would get a Transformers game in the US that was better than Mystery of Convoy. However, that is a different story for another time...
It's been two weeks since we last left our heroes, and now we see why: Starscream wasn't kidding when he said he was putting Wheeljack to work! In Episode 22, "Drone Alone," Optimus acts as a diversion while Mirage and the rest of his team mount an attempt to rescue Wheeljack. How does it go? Well, watch and find out! And if you keep watching, 22 is followed by episodes 21, 20, and 19, in case you're some kind of psycho who spits in the face of chronal continuity. As for my thoughts on the episode (spoilers abound): Feel free to talk about this episode here, or the series as a whole over in the "Transformers Cyberworld: I Axed You a Question" thread in our forums! Earlier this weekend, some images got out for the upcoming releases of both Leige Maximo and Nexus Prime. However, it appeared that Nexus Prime's reveal told only part of the story. About one-fifth, one might even say. You see, each Prime kinda has a thing, and Nexus Prime's thing is the Enigma of Combination -- he's the guy from which all other Combiners are derived. So then, where is this guy's combination? The answer, as we've just discovered, lies in a teaser (complete with John Williams' Superman theme) on the Instagram page of one Markclonus, professional toy designer for Hasbro and the guy who has given us so many behind-the-scenes previews over the last while. But rather than regale us with a variety of fancy poses and anecdotes, this time Mark has taken it to video: https://www.instagram.com/p/DUOa17xD9xC And if that doesn't embed properly for you and/or you lack the Instagram credentials necessary to view it, then behind the spoiler tag is a look at the final frame of the video, showing the god of gestalts in all his glory. As you can see, this Nexus Prime is a true mish-mash of Combiner components: In addition to NP himself showing off his combined mode cranium, there's the Superion Combiner frame, I believe with Air Raid as one of the legs, then Brawl from Bruticus as the other leg, while Blast-Off and Vortex are up in arms -- literally, with the latter borrowing a bit more Superion frame. Incidentally, people in the comments on the Instagram post are... a little displeased at this turn of events. Between wanting Nexus Prime to have his own dedicated group of limbs as he did in his debut appearance as part of the Transformers Collector's Club all those years ago, or simply not wanting to have to buy parts from other teams they have no interest in to make this combination a little less enigmatic, or just not wanting to have to dismantle their displays to present this Prime in all of his merged majesty, it seems many are simply left wanting more. But what do you think? Are you happy to have someone to pinch-hit while one of your team leaders is in the shop? Or do you think that the progenitor Prime of the Combiners shouldn't have to settle for hand-me-downs? Let us know in the comments below, and join in the "Transformers Age of the Primes" thread to make your thoughts further known to the community at large!
