If anyone cares, it turns out TakaraTomy uploaded their TV commercial for the Prime toy-line last weekend, showing (briefly) Soundwave, Arcee (with pink blade Mini-Con!) And Bulkhead. (with his wrecking-ball Mini-Con)

Being part of any fandom is fundamentally embarassing.

I wish the US advertisers would use stop-motion for their toy advertisements. I would actually watch TV if that much effort was put into commercials.

I don't know if they legally can in the US. I seem to remember a lawsuit or something over the old Micro Machines commercials, which had stop-motion cars driving around until idiot parents complained that the actual toys didn't magically drive by themselves, go up ramps, or make turns.

Then again, even before this happened the US G1 commercials didn't have stop-motion, but the awesome animation made specifically for the commercials made up for it as far as I'm concerned.

The Kre-O adverts are stop motion and they are awesome. I don't think they're screened on TV though.

Yeah, but... I've been coming to discover that much of the toy market of the 80's was, to be blunt, toy companies whipping it out and waving it all around going "LOOK HOW BIG THIS IS!!!", regardless of profitability. The decade of nigh-sociopathic excess.

Stuff like Fort Max and the USS Flagg are probably the biggest examples of "we're going to lose money but it LOOKS REALLY HUGE ON A SHELF HA HA EAT IT COMPETITOR", but animated commercials sure seem to fit that mentality.

Meh, even if they did bring them back they'd probably just be 3DCG. So I don't really care.

Maybe the Prid Bulkhead won't be so bad after all, it certainly doesn't look as misshapen here as it did at Toy Fair.

As far as we know yes. There are bound to be other differences as well.

Not since the second movie or so. They use the US names now. More recognizable, I suppose. A shame, because I always enjoyed seeing what "first name" the current Convoy would get.

He was Optimus Prime in the first movie, too. The only reason they didn't switch to Optimus Prime wholesale right then is that they didn't import Animated then, waiting until after RotF instead.

It was also at that point where they switched to Autobots and Decepticons, instead of Cybertrons and Destrons.

Ok, I meant as far as the AM-10 being the PRID mold or First Edition.

Well, time to go cancel a BBTS preorder! icon-ironhide.gif
