This thread happens pretty often, but I quite like it. Also, it feels like a good time as Botcon sets typically inspire a lot of people shouting "They should have done THIS..."

I like being creative in a set of rules, so I'm following the basic Botcon set guidelines:

A reason for these guys to exist together
5-6 toys in a box
One freebie
2-3 souvenir sets
~4 remolded pieces throughout

Also, feel free share your thought process too!

So, here's mine, set in the Wings/Cartoon universe:

Operation: Burning Sky!

The Autobots have intercepted Decepticon communications originating from a distant planet called Pova. There, a deadly squadron of Decepticons begin the final phase of a plan that promises to have crippling effect on the Autobot war effort. With little time to spare, the closest Autobot ship is directed towards the Redan Sector with a simple mission: Locate Pova, stop the Decepticons, and become heroes! Sounds easy, right? Experience one of the untold stories of the Great War, and see how two legendary Autobot generals began their illustrious careers!

This five-figure box set includes:

Decepticon General SCRASH (Universe Silverbolt, new head, basically a new Skyquake)
Decepticon MACABRE (Generations Sky Shadow)
Decepticon TRITON (HFTD Terradive, new head)
Autobot STRIKA (Generations Straxus, new head)
Autobot OBSIDIAN (HFTD Tomahawk, Vortex head)

Attendee-only bonus figure: Decepticon FERAK (Universe Cyclonus)

Souvenir Set #1:
Autobot ROTORSTORM (HFTD Tomahawk)
Autobot FLAME (WfC Megatron)

Souvenir Set #2:
Autobot SCROUNGE (RtS Wreck-Gar, new head)
Autobot ARTFIRE with HOT SHOT (Universe Inferno, with Targetmaster from Ferak)

--

Basically, I wanted a set with Obsidian and Strika in their Autobot forms, and I needed a mission for them to go on. I decided the villain should be Scrash, since it gives us a toy of a previously unseen character as well as gives us a better Skyquake without being another Skyquake.

Scrash's troops get filled out with Squadron X characters, since Walky posted an awesome idea for Macabre and I want it. Triton having a trident was too awesome to pass up, and Ferak got in because he's an easy redeco of Cyclonus without needing a new head. I think it makes for a pretty strong set of villains.

The souvenirs came about easily. Rotorstorm is a figure that I really want, and ties in to both the Squadron X guys and the origin of Scrash. It fulfills the reuse of a mold within a set, too. He's partnered up with Flame as I wanted to get some more comic-only characters in there. Somebody had this idea before me, and it's awesome, so I took it. I figure he betrays the Autobots in the story, and thus makes the sides even.

We're never going to get a wheel, so a motorcycle is the next best thing. I figure Toon-Scrounge can survive long enough to get a posting on this ship, but he probably gets killed when Flame betrays the Autobots in the comic. icon-arcee.gif

Artfire is there because I really want one, he's another Japanese character like Scrash, and it's a great place to send the Targetmaster that gets made with Ferak. His name is Hot Shot like the RiD Spychanger, and because it makes sense for a gun.

The Autobot team is kind of a mishmash of characters, which fits the overall Wreckers-y inspiration and feel of the set.

Now, what's your Botcon set?

My BotCon set looks just like Spectre's.

EDIT: Well, probably not Scrounge. Scrounge shouldn't be Straxus-height. That's basically my only requirement for him.

" A reason for these guys to exist together

okay, lets see what I can get and what I'd have to live with to get the figures I want as the characters I want.

Reason: Unicron Trilogy Classic figures.

hftd Tomahawk as Armada Cyclonus
dotm Spacecase as Cybetron Sideways (new head)
Classics Sideswipe as Armada Wheeljack
Classics Drift as Cybertron Override (Give her a new gun instead of a head)
Classics Perceptor as Energon Ironhide (just leave the shoulder gun in lightbar mode and we're set)

Classics kup as Cybertron Brakedown (with a new head and he'd be the free figure if you RESERVED a room at the hotels) icon-arcee.gif

movie Lockdown as Cannonball and Classics Hotshot as Excillion as the Souvenir set

that's it, nothing too fancy, nothing shattered glass -just new classics figures for people who weren't people back in g1

Apparently Not happening tonight ... nobody tells me nothin'
I mean seriously how am I supposed to keep these ads updated and on topic...?

It's a box of pastel-coloured Seekers with their nosecones remolded into phallic shafts of different ridging.

I'd call it Transformers: Penetration.

The theme is a celebration of previous years of Botcon. Each major theme from previous years would be represented.

BOX SET
Evil Decepticon Grindor - Voyager Animated Blackout, original head (The Stunti-Con Job)
Evil Decepticon Treadshot - Deluxe Generations Warpath, original head (G2 Redux)
Evil Decepticon Blast Off - Deluxe Astrotrain, original head (Wings of Honor)
Evil Autobot Ratchet - Deluxe Energon Roadblock, new head (Shattered Glass)
Evil Predacon Cryotek - Voyager Energon Shockblast, new head (Dawn of Future's Past)

SOUVENIR SETS / FREEBIE
Fugitive Autobot Wasp - Animated Hydrodrive Bumblebee [car only], original head (The Stunti-Con Job)
Heroic Autobot Atlan - Deluxe Classics Astrotrain, original head (G2 Redux)
Heroic Autobot Magnum - Deluxe Energon Inferno, new head (Wings of Honor)
Heroic Decepticon Enemy - Scout Generations Rumble/Frenzy, original head (Shattered Glass) [troop builder set]
Trypticon - Ultra Cybertron Scourge, original head (Games of Deception)
Heroic Maximal Nightprowler - Deluxe Generations Blurr, Drift's head (Dawn of Future's Past)

Atlan is from Japan's Sixtrain team. He transforms into a train and does not have Astrotrain's space shuttle mode details painted. Blast Off transforms into a space shuttle but does not have Astrotrain's train mode details painted. Neither are a triple changer in fiction despite the toy being a triple changer. Atlan is a new character to fiction and is revealed to be a Clone of Blast Off (same as Fastlane/Cloudraker and Wingspan/Pounce) but stayed with the Autobots where Blast Off defected to the Decepticons. Whereas they were once identical in robot mode, Atlan has changed his colors to reject Blast Off as his brother.

I'm assuming it is possible to use Energon Roadblock's mold as a reuse of Inferno without it counting as a seperate mold.

Nightprowler is based on the unreleased Universe toy where he was a repaint of the original 1996 Cheetor. He uses the Blurr mold just for the guns.

Enemy is a troop builder toy just so that the Rumble/Frenzy mold is more easy to aquire. It shouldn't matter that its a Scout just because the mold was never released in America.

Edited by Bass X0, 23 January 2012 - 08:20 AM.

It all began in '84. Kept on rollin' in '85. The pieces were in place in '86, and it came to an end in '87. But now it comes, and here we go. Transformers is here again. Nothing's gonna stop it 'cause it's 1988!

I've been trying to do this all morning and finding it really hard. I think my problem is my standards for homages are really high, making it really hard to find even 5 for the box set that work well enough for me and are a match thematically.

One idea I had that I really like though:

Last year's voyager Highbrow as G2 Rotor Force Decepticon Ransack. both WW2 era planes with prominent propellers. I love this idea, specially since I missed the toy the first time.

-ZacWilliam, likely never happen real world, but I also would have some Joes as the bots and cons human allies in my dream exclusive year (including a few weird ones, like armored Blackthorn Shore and translucent lavender Synergy)

Robots In Disguise: Dimensions of Confusion

It should have been a simple mission. The Destructicon known as Bludgeon has appeared on Earth, along with three other, smaller, mechs; a small team should be able to handle them.

At least, it would have been a simple mission if it had been Destructicon Bludgeon. This Bludgeon is different... skilled, cunning, vicious. Just who is he?

The plot would be that G1 Bludgeon and G1 Reflector stole an Autobot prototype that would allow them to dimension-hop, and that the G1 Omnibots, in their function as a dimensional patrol, was dispatched to stop them. Unfortunately for all, they wound up in the RiD-verse... and in very different forms. G1 Bludgeon has no idea about RiD Bludgeon, but does recognize Autobots when he sees them. This leads to the Autobot team almost getting slagged, at which point they have to be forcibly rebuilt, hence why no actual RiD molds are used. Even when the two groups of Autobots team up, however, it would still take the arrival of a most unexpected figure to help set everything right and restore the dimensions...

Main Set:
G1 Bludgeon -> Universe Galvatron
X-Brawn -> Cybertron Red Alert (new head)
Skid-Z -> Generations Mirage
Tow-Line -> Generations Optimus Prime (towing assembly)
G1 Reflector (Spectro, Spyglass, Viewfinder) -> Energon Street Action Team (Sureshock, Grindor, Highwire)
G1 Omnibots (Camshaft, Downshift, Overdrive) -> Cybertron Street Speed Team (Backtrack, Oval, Spiral)

Attendee Set:
T-Ai -> Binaltech Asterisk AI
Kelly -> Binaltech Asterisk Junko
Dorie Dutton -> Binaltech Asterisk Lumina
Koji -> New figure (counts as the budget for the rest of the new molds)

Hotel Registration:
Vector Prime -> Generations Jetfire
Lexicon: still up and running!

Hope Renewed: Following the beacon from their allies in AXIOM NEXUS, another wave of refugees crosses the dimensional threshold into the vast city complex.

Main Set:
Leader-1 - Deluxe Seeker mold, new head
Turbo - Deluxe Blurr mold, New Head
Scooter - RotF Scout Reverb Mold, New head
Cy-kil - Deluxe Wreckgar mold, New head
Fitor - Deluxe Thunderwing Mold (Skyshadow Head)
Coptur - Deluxe Tomahawk Mold (Vortex head)

Freebie Set 1
Snoop - Deluxe Spacecase mold
Zod - Deluxe Grimlock mold

Freebie Set 2
Courageous - Voyager Jetfire Mold
Tank - Deluxe Hailstorm mold /or/ Vanguard - Deluxe Ironhide mold

Set 3
Leader-1 - Super mode Blue coloring
Cy-kil - Super mode Green/black coloring

Notes: Year of the Gobots! It would be epic! The main goal was to tie in all 6 of the main members along with some other random well known figures. We already have Crasher, so it was a matter of getting everyone else. Scooter is the hardest as he needs to be a scout for scale at least. I went with RotF Reverb as a safe pick, but I'm not sold on it. Freebie 3 is for those people who prefer the 2nd wave leaders to the show accurate ones of the main set.

Alternatively, a Withered hope upgrade set:
Pathfinder - Deluxe Terradive Mold, New head (Closes fit I can think of atm)
Treadz - Deluxe Warpath mold
Badboy - Cyberverse Powerglide Mold (The ultra is too large, so this will have to do)
Bugbite - Deluxe WFC bumblebee mold
Smallfoot - Deluxe Kup mold, New Head
Road Ranger - Deluxe Kup Mold, Normal head

Freebies: A mix of some of the first set figures. Any will do

Clearing out some old TFs and Mugenbine in my BST Thread. You know you want some of these.

I think some criteria should be no Scouts (or smaller) or Leaders (or bigger) are used (as BotCon has said they're too expensive to produce) and that at least 1 or 2 molds is reused in the set (as that seems to be a requirement too).

So, in the 2010 set, the dialogue between Breakdown and Streetwise mentions that they're both the only ones left from their respective teams. Also, We have Multiple Limbs/Bodies from various combiner sets (Onslaught and Vortex; Breakdown, Dragstrip and Wildrider(Even though he's impossible to find, Blades and Streetwise). So, to finish off those sets, and tell the story of the last great Combiner Battle:

The Fall of Scramble City

Box Set, 5 Pieces
Hot Spot from Inferno
Groove from Wreck-Gar (New Head)
Motor Master from Voyager Optimus Prime(New Head similar to MM from 2011)
Dead End from Jazz (Treadshot head)
Blast Off from Scourge (New Head) - not the best option I know, but the most space shippy one I can think of

G2 First Aid acting as the narrator of the story, he also survives the battle, but goes full pacifist, as the Freebie (He'd be a very light recolor of Ratchet, Teal where the red is, a gold chest window, so making him the freebie seems okay to me)

Three Pack, all Deluxes:
Wildrider from Tracks/Wheeljack (Yeah, he'd be similar to Runa----one of them, but with a new hood deco, he'd look nice, and it'd be cool to replace the eHobby one)
Brawl from Darkmount (New Head, maybe this has to be the freebie because it has a new head?)
G2 Swindle from Hound, the cobalt sentry from the tape?

And thats all that really matters, we get to fill in the slots for three combiner teams. Yeah it's a mix of G1 and G2, but I wouldn't mind it. Fiction basically describes the Final Battle of Bruticus, Defensor and Menasaur. Maybe the other 2 pack/3 pack can be a group of autobots who help take down Bruticus?

Groove from Wreck-Gar (New Head)

I know as a real Botcon toy its size makes this unlikely, but still if we're just spit-balling dreams I think 2010 Brimstone/Chopsaw with a new head would be a much better match for Groove.

-ZacWilliam, it just seems a more fitting type of bike for him to me, and its bot mode's got odd legs and long feet just like the original Groove.

I'm not sure about the details, but I'd love a return to G2 Redux. This time fold in more Turbomasters, and feel free to pick molds from the Unicron Trilogy to DOTM/PCC. I just want a Hyperdrive [the big unreleased one], Flash, Boss, Hurricane, Scrash...

EDIT: Turbomasters, not Targetmasters, duh. Although I'd love more of those too. Minicons galore please.

I'd love a return to G2 Redux as well, but I want entirely different figures out of the set.

See my big problem with the original Botcon G2 set was that it was pretty much entirely UK only guys and Unreleased guys. Rapido alone was the only American G2 character represented. I'd like them to go back to it and give us more of the characters that I think of when I think G2:

I want:

Windrazor from Classics Seeker with a new head.
Ransack from HftD Highbrow
Terradive from Lugnut
Electro from Kup
Skram from Windcharger

And so on.

-ZacWilliam, Ranasack and Kup especially draw me but others would be awesome too. Undertow as Manta Ray'd be cool...

Those are neat picks too! Skram is definitely one I'd want. I also wouldn't mind getting someone out of HFTD Hubcap -- that mold in black, or purple, would be neat.
