For the past few decades, the Army has been publishing a magazine entitled "P.S. : The Preventive Maintenance Monthly."

Each issue of the magazine is filled with cartoons and short pieces of text featuring advice and tips on how soldiers, technicians, and mechanics can keep their gear in top shape and help ensure that things operate smoothly & safely. As they're available for public release,* a lot of Army folks and their families have them simply lying around.

I recently got my hands on a few recent back issues, among them issue # 674 (January 2009).

On pages 42 and 43 is an article about the PP-8498/U Soldier-Portable Battery Charger.

...which, as Optimus Prime helps to explain, is capable of transforming every time a soldier downloads an upgrade for the software included inside. icon-op.gif

Cool, eh?

I'll try to get a scan as soon as possible; my scanner's been somewhat cranky as of late. I'm also trying to get on the magazine's website, but Firefox is also getting cranky.

*The front cover is marked "Approved for Public Release; Distribution is Unlimited".

I would imagine that Smitty and a few other US military types here might have a few of these handy or at least have access to them, too.
Lexicon: still up and running!

"At my last intern briefing, Craig was clearly tired. His message had changed to, "Stay out of trouble, period." It seemed that, as director of security, Livingstone was growing old fast. If he didn't watch out, he'd become one of us - a 'Mormon' or a 'straight,' which is what Clinton staffers called FBI agents, the Secret Service, and former Bush employees."

I'll see what I can do...

I'm not a fan of voting on peoples posts. it just seems very passive aggressive to click 'down vote' and not add anything to the thread. and up votes are exactly the same. to my mind the whole point of a forum is discussion and being able to just easily agree or disagree takes the discussion out of the equation.

I found it on LOGSA and emailed it to my Gmail. I'll take out the web sites and phone numbers tonight and post the article.

Prime's scale goes from more or less reasonable to freaking huge to toy-sized.

It's G1-accurate!

For some reason I thought this was going to be about last Sunday's Family Guy episode.

I ama amused by Optimus' inadvertantly confounded expression in the third panel.

And I've decided it's not you.
I had to do what must be done.
YOU WOULD HAVE DONE IT TOO!
Suddenly I'm feeling strange...
