Ray Bradbury — author of The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and many more literary classics — died this morning in Los Angeles, at the age of 91.

Well, damn. It's not like 91 isn't a good run, but... well, damn.

Rest in space!

Very sad to see him go. icon-screamer.gif

That's sad.

I grew up reading my mom's sci-fi paperbacks...Bradbury, Heinlein, Asimov, and I think a little Arthur C. Clarke.

RIP.

And a legend has left us. Rest in peace Ray.

One of the only times I ever enjoyed a book assignment from school is when they had me read Fahrenheit 451.

It's depressing how close it seems to becoming a reality sometimes.
wonko the sane?
The man was damn near a prophet. Rest in peace sir.

Rest well, Storyteller.

Awww.

Bradbury was one of the few writers I would honestly call an idol. The man could somehow write poetry in prose form and have it work wonderfully and deeply. I'd give anything to be able to write like he did.

Very sorry to see him go.

-ZacWilliam, Dandelion Wine will always be among my favorite books.

Wow, I... thought he died a long time ago.

The Illustrated Man was one of the first science fiction novels I ever read. The Sci-Fi Channel used to rerun episode of the Ray Bradbury Theater in the afternoons and I'd always tune in to catch it, hoping one of the stories from The Illustrated Man would be adapted (I was excited to see how it compared with the version in my head).

I read Fahrenheit 451 in high school, but I'm ashamed to say I don't remember it as vividly as Illustrated Man. In fact, I fear most of my memories are of the hilariously bad film adaptation; namely the scene where the firefighters slide *up* the pole in the firehouse.

The guy was great, though.

Probably my favourite author. I wrote an essay on fahrenheit 451 in 5th year. At least he was a good age.
I really wanna post the video for hug Me Ray Bradbury, but I'm guessing it won't be allowed?

Seeing as the name of the song won't even pass the board's swear filter, I'm guessing not.

RIP, Mr. Bradbury, you were always one of my favorites. icon-screamer.gif Even today, I still watch The Halloween Tree every fall (it was even narrated by Bradbury himself!).

I hope that right up to his passing, he was as vibrant and alert as he ever was.

That man deserved for his passing to be a swift, peaceful transition in his sleep.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Still, 91 is a heck of a run and his work will keep his name alive for decades to come.

A living legend has passed away leaving us his writings... For this and this reason alone we should make sure print copies of his material remain forever in our care.

Rest well Mr. Bradbury Rest well.

I saw him speak a few years ago. Really great stories.

Me too. I'm actually surprised to hear he was still alive.

Doesn't make it any less of a severe loss, though.

R.I.P. Mr. Bradbury.

Oh, man. That movie was freaking hilarious!

At the same time, I think the source material is ripe for a remake, provided they can get the right people not to mess it up.

Man that sucks.

RIP.

Indeed. He was a great writer, I'm just glad he got to be a legend in his own time.

Also, somewhat off topic but related to the above, Abe Vigoda is also still alive.
