I think that design looks great at Voyager size. It was wonky as a Deluxe (still good, mind), but way more filled out now.
But now I need a Voyager Megatron.
Jeremy
May 7 2012, 04:45 PM
Yep, I want a Voyager Megatron, Prime, and Grimlock now. Glad we finally got a Soundwave with all the bells and whistles again, but he's pretty huge compared to everything else from WFC/FOC. I was definitely struck by what a large toy he was in person.
mignash
May 7 2012, 04:47 PM
I'm more and more unsure this is a wise choice. Soundwave already had a toy. Of all the FOC characters, they make SOUNDWAVE the larger toy for the sake of his cassette throwing gimmick, but meanwhile characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Shockwave and just any other larger robot is Deluxe size. I may just keep the Deluxe and give him the Legends sidekicks. Who cares if they don't fit inside?

May 7 2012, 04:49 PM
Yeah, but on the other hand, I bet this will look awesome next to Classics Megatron.

Hmm.. that was not how I was expecting his chest to open.
I was thinking more Depth Charge, less Hurricanger/Ninja Storm.
Still an awesome gimmick though.
Here's hoping we get to see the Prime voyagers soon.

I will be interested to know if Soundblaster is New Soundwave or if he's a different character entirely.

Not sure which one I want. I'm leaning toward Soundblaster, if just for Buzzsaw and the yellow eyes.
...I wonder if we'll see a purple version, from the club or something. With Garboil, maybe?
ZacWilliam1
May 7 2012, 06:01 PM
I think they look REALLY good.
If the fists rotate then he's downright AWESOME. Either way he looks SOOO much better than the previous version of that design. I though that one was terrible and passed. THIS is must own.
I didn't think I'd want both, as I have no attatchment to Soundblaster, but darn it if I don't need Buzzsaw and he does look great.
I'm in for both AND every data disk con they make. I would care less without that gimick but it is THE CORE of what Soundwave and his minnions are about for me. And I love that they took them in a modern Bakkugan direction. It's just the perfect update of one of the classic play patterns.
-ZacWilliam, the ONLY way I could really be more sold is if we'd seen a Blaster and Autobot Data Disks too. But as is these are just one of the coolest things in years.
Database
May 7 2012, 06:13 PM
As I said before, I want Soundblaster just so I can see about making a toy of Database since he's black and has some similar desgin elements to Soundwave.

Was anyone else surprised the alternate version is New Soundwave rather than a head & chest (well, head & disc-door) remould into Blaster?

Reuse of the G1 Prime gun is just bizarre if it's not another Hasbro photographer fail. It wasn't even a very good effort in 1982 - the design is nice, but the handle arrangement is stupid.
So yeah, Soundwave just isn't a very good design, and will look very odd towering over the other characters. Pass.

So sitting up sick tonight (yay) and remembered what someone had suggested back durring Botcon.
They need to do Blaster in this same style. And he NEEDS to come with a Data Disk Recordicon Scrounge.
Much as I'd love a larger (Cyberverse Commander maybe, or Deluxe "paired with Rung" mold) version of the character ideally, this gimick is just TOO PERFECT a match to pass by. Wheel/Disk Scrounge and Blaster would be a must own toy for me.
-ZacWilliam, and I love the idea of Rewind/Steeljaw and Eject/Ramhorn sets too...

May 8 2012, 06:46 AM
Yeah, the two Soundwave samples at BotCon did have Optimus Prime guns with them. Sunday morning when they where putting SDCC Bruticus' box in the display case, they had taken the Soundwaves out of the case and put them in a pile on the floor. At the time I thought the Prime guns went with MP-10, but reflecting on it, they were clearly in the Soundwave pile, with the Optimus pile being in another spot.
Plus... Two guns rather than just the one.

When thinking of Amalgamous, just think of Loki
Having multiple forms and names across the Multiverse is his style, and taking the form of a black Soundwave in one universe should mean he can take it in another
Mind, Logos is my favourite Soundwave redeco. He's the best version of that mold. So happy I picked him up on the cheap when HLJ were selling them off

Did they demonstrate the "launching" mechanism? From the way the pics look it would appear he'd just vomit forth whatever was inside like horror movie intestines from a gaping wound.
While I did hope at the beginning the disks would somehow come out on edge like a disk shooter vs flat, I'm still excited to get a new Soundwave that can a) hold his minions and 2)has more than one minion to hold.

May 8 2012, 07:17 AM
All of the Soundwave-related items that they showed were still hand-painted samples. And judging by the up close look I had at Ravage and Laserbeak, I don't think that any demonstration would have been all that impressive; the paint was everywhere inside those discs. So I doubt the springs on the samples actually sprung.
