Ok, after geeking out on the Avengers movie over the weekend I need some advice on toy purchases. I want to get a set of Figs to display. But I have no idea if I can get what I want out of this as I don't know anything about the figs.

#1. Affordable. I am not talking Hot Toys stuff here.
#2. Able to complete in scale not only the team but also key characters from previous movies, Iron Monger, War Machine, etc.
#3. A little gimmicky without ruining figure aesthetic. I remember from the first movie there was an Iron Monger fig that allowed the helmet to come off and see OS's head beneath. That was cool. And I know the are 6" figs out there with interchangeable hands.

So given the above stipulations, what line line would you recommend?

Hasbro is coming out with a 6" Avengers line, but unfortunately, it'll be Wal-Mart exclusive. So far, the line will have Loki, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor (remold of the 6" figure from the Thor movie with helmetless head), and Iron Man Mk VI (repaint of "Iron Man 2" 6-inch in battle-damaged deco).

Here's what I have on my movie shelf from the previous movies. Unfortunately, nearly all of them are store exclusives:

Iron Man Mks. I, II, III - First Hasbro Iron Man movie line, general release

Iron Monger (version 2 with opening cockpit) - First Hasbro Iron Man movie line, general release (this is actually more in scale with 4" inch figures)

Iron Man Mks. IV, V, VI - Hasbro Iron Man 2 6" movie line, Wal-Mart exclusive. Mark IV had an alternate "hangover Tony" head and is VERY rare due to Mark V clogging pegs. Mark VI was reissued in the "Iron Man: Armored Avenger" line, and is slightly improved from the movie version, having fixed some articulation issues and adding paint apps. (Will again be reissued in a battle-damaged deco in Wal-Mart 6" Avengers line.)

War Machine - Hasbro Iron Man 2 6" movie line, Wal-Mart exclusive. Reissued in the "Armored Avenger" line.

Hulk - Hasbro Incredible Hulk movie line, Target exclusive. (The regular movie line was 4-5" scale, I think. Wasn't received very well.) This is actually a remold of an old Marvel Legends Hulk with a new headsculpt, and is NOT the same figure from the upcoming Avengers line, so there's not really a need to hunt this down.

Thor - Hasbro 6" "Thor" movie line, Wal-Mart exclusive. Again, this is the same figure as in the upcoming Avengers line, but with his winged helmet.

Captain America (WW2 uniform) - Hasbro 6" "Captain America" movie line, Wal-Mart exclusive.

Nick Fury - Hasbro 6" "Captain America" movie line, Wal-Mart exclusive.

(For anal-retentiveness sake, I also have 6" movie figures of Spider-Man, black Spider-Man, Venom, Sandman, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Blade, Dr. Doom, the Fantastic Four, and some of the better X-Men figures)

If you want a wider character selection (and lower costs), I'd go with the various 3.75" lines, it's the only way to get certain characters like Whiplash, the Hammeroid army, Black Widow, Red Skull, Odin, and the Warriors Three.

Do you know when that Walmart Exclusive 6" line is due out?

It seems that the 6" is the way to go for the best all-around value. It's a pity you can't get the drones in that size though.

Sadly, nobody knows right now icon-screamer.gif No sightings have been reported yet.

Even worse, if the Thor and Cap lines were any indication, some Wal-Marts may not even get the 6" figures. All 3 stores in my area passed on Thor & Cap, probably because they were burned pretty badly by the infestation of Iron Man Mark Vs, so we'll see.

I'd go with the 3.75" line, absolutely.

1. It affords a wider variety of characters not yet (if ever) available at the 6" scale, such as Whiplash, Red Skull, Odin, Sif, Heimdall, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, Laufey and the Frost Giants, Hydra agents, the drones from IM2, the full complement of Iron Man armors, and a little character known as Black Widow.

2. Finding all the 6" figures will be damn near impossible anyway. You can massively overpay for the upcoming Walmart exclusives at BBTS, but that won't help you with past releases such as Nick Fury and the Destroyer.

6" Avengers are slowly starting to make their way out into the wild. Here's a map of reported sightings thus far, you can monitor that thread for updates.

Have you started to put together your collection, Bain?

Hi Aberration,

Yes, I bought 3 of the 6" figs so far. Mark II, Mark V, and War Machine. I also preordered some Hot Toys Avengers. But I'm beginning to have second thoughts about that momentary weakness. 2 bills is a lot to spend on a figure and it gets worse when you try to compete a 'set' like this. I'm still kinda on the fence and wondering if I shouldn't cancel the preorders.

I checked the local Walmart and nothing there yet on the exclusives.

I love the smaller 4inch line.

Such a wide variety of armours to choose from, both comic and movie. And plenty that haven't been done in the 6 inch line.

While I have all the 6inch ones made since ML1, I love the smaller line more. Much more diverse and interesting to the eye, IMO.

It really depends on what you want, and if you want specific armours, or just a few of the main ones. And while there was a great 4inch line for Iron Man 2, the main MU line has done a few armours too, including a really good Extremis armour (it's basically the armour they later used in the movie).

A 6 inch version of that came out just a month or two ago, as part of the Marvel Legends relaunch. Geat figure, but check the paint around the mouthplate line thing, as it's pretty badly done on most, and really noticeable.

If you are solely after the movie versions, there's also the Revoltech line. They're imports from Japan, so expect to pay more. They look great, but movement wise, they're not my favourite Revoltechs. Some of the joints are hampered, and I think they could have done more to help that out.

Marvel Select did Iron Man 2 armours, but I don't like them as much.

Yes, they have a removable faceplate, but if you have it down, then there's two peg holes blatantly visible, and the eyes are unpainted. If you have the faceplate up, it looks better, but again, peg holes that really stand out. I'd pass on those, if I were you.

Are the Marvel select figures in-scale with the 6-inch?
Cheetimus Primal
No, Marvel Select is about 8 to 9 inch. They are their own scale.
