Sideswipe... I'm gonna need to think about. I'm pretty happy with the CHUGUR.

Fireflight... SOOO weird a choice. He looks reall cool, but he also looks WAY out of character for the space cadet, childlike G1 Fireflight. He's not a character I'd ever envisioned looking "badass" before.

I like that mold as Ultra Magnus Better than Optimus. It'd look cool next to War for Cybetron Prime.

Ultra Magnus is exactly the Ultra Magnus that I've wished every white Prime was instead of a white Prime.

Fireflight looks bad ass, but he's so full of character, I almost wish he had a different name.

Not that this univere's fireflight can't be a bad ass, but my initial reaction was that he should have a different name.

If Magnus had more red, I'd get him to be Magnum.

And nerts with the requests for FoC Jazz as Jackpot, I want Sideswipe as that!

Also, I'm hoping that Sideswipe's head fits on the Universe mold. This head is so perfectly Sideswipe it makes the Universe head look even lamer.

Starscream and Magnus will be buys. Will probably skip Sideswipe (though I do like the head) and Fireflight (get Shockwave instead). On the fence about Insecticon/Kickback.

Yes, that Sidewipe is PERFECT for Jackpot. That must happen. I'm not that interested in it as SS but as Jackpot SOLD.

Fireflight DOES look amazingly badass. Which is just wrong for childlike Fireflight... So conflicted.

Kickback looks even MORE awesome transformed right in both modes. LOVE HIM. He NEEDS to get repainted as Ransack as well! We need more Deluxe Insecticon love!

Wow, I think I might be buying a lot of those. Ultra Magnus makes me want that mold, and I'm impressed how Un-Shockwavey Fireflight looks.

Is it me, or can his weapon function as a cannon like Shockwave's can too? That's two, two, TWO weapons in one!

Really digging that Magnus, want going to get Prime cause I was Meh on him but he looks ace.

Fireflight also looks really good and different enough from Shockwave that I might get him.

Will probably wait to see wat Repaints Jazz and Sideswipe get since im happy with my Classics versions of them.

Prime I may Skip & Wait for Ultra Magnus, even though I think UM will be smaller than WFC Prime.

I look at Starscream & think "I would love to see him painted as Armada Sreamer"

I just realized that Sideswipe's a ridiculously extensive re-tool of Jazz. That's kind of surprising, given Sideswipe's inexplicable popularity with fans. I would have thought they'd save him for his own mold.

He's giving me a more bad ass (obviously) UT Jetfire vibe. His colors aren't exactly far off from his Cybertron incarnation.

If you would have just shown me Fireflight's robot mode, I'd be hard-pressed to figure out who he was a repaint/remold of. Great work by hasbro.

They're getting pretty good mileage out of their remolds/redecoes. The new parts and drastically different colourschemes do a lot to separate Sideswipe from Jazz and Fireflight from Shockwave.

And while the remolding isn't as significant, Ultra Magnus' colour palette fits the FoC Optimus mold like a glove.

You know.. repaint him Blue & gold & Fireflight would make a good Metalhawk

"Flying space cannon Autobot" immediately makes me think of Scattershot more than Metalhawk.

...Or maybe I just REALLY want a new Scattershot.

Yes, I think Fireflight would work better as Metalhawk or Strafe.

Holy crap. I didn't even realize. I thought he was a new mold.

Case in point.

It is a very drastic remold, though. Pretty much the entire top half of the car is brand new.

Its Aligned Fireflight. A name reuse and loosely the same color scheme. His appearance and personality doesn't have to be related to G1 Fireflight.

This is not a look that is appropriate for G1 Fireflight but thats okay because its not him.

Heck - it doesn't even have to be the same guy as G1 Fireflight.

Both the RiD and MTMTE comics have played with the idea of names NOT being unique among Cybertronians.

But yeah, especially with the headsculpt, I get the Jetfire-recolor-Fireflight vibe here more than G1. I'd agree a Technobot name probably would have been a better general fit though.

What is with the colors of the figures in the pictures? The coloring is too bright.

You're new to the whole Photoshop retouched package photos thing? Where have you been for the last decade?

Here's the thing, Aligned/FoC Fireflight is no one and is very likely to remain no one. And this toy is VERY based on G1 Fireflight, especially that head sculpt. Without FoC Fireflight being developed somewhere (as Prime Wheeljack is) I kinda feel we're left with a homage that gets all the details right and the "personality" off. It doesn't stop it looking awesome but it does make it feel weird.

(plus, on a personal note, I only buy Generation figures to insert them in my G1 collection. A toy that captures the details like is ones head does but fails on other fronts is conflict for me on that basis.)




I'm not sure how I'd feel about a bot that shares Fireflight's name, and basic colors, and toy head design... Fireflightus Apotheosis seems an unlikely disease...


-ZacWilliam, not making this a big deal, it's a great looking toy and I may even accept it as G1 Fireflight or reimagine it as someone else, but it's just more a a humorous/weird homage "glitch" to me to see him so badass looking.

These molds are really pretty, and so are their accessories. I think I'm going to have a lot of fun seeing who looks good holding Sideswipe's gun or Magnus's sword.

Also, I really liked Thundercracker's portrayal in WfC, so I'm looking forward to an eventual TC repaint of the Starscream mold.

Oddly enough, the colors in the photos of the Combaticons aren't nearly bright enough to match the toys that were on display.

Why have we gone back to non-integrated weapons?

I especially don't like Starscream's guns. They're cool, they just don't say "Starscream" to me.

I vastly prefer the Ultra Magnus over the Optimus.

The sheer joy and happy that Magnus gives me is not board-appropriate to describe.

Of course, when it comes to Magnii (or Magnuses if you want to be picky), pretty much as long as he doesn't look like a straight-up white Prime repaint, I tend to be happy.

So, yeah. I'm an easy sell.

This is soooo not fair what Hasbro is doing. I have no place in my collection for another Jazz, Sideswipe, Ultra Mags, Scream, or Bruticus. But because Im a sucker for all these figs and I need all versions of these guys I think the only ones Im not gonna buy is Prime and maybe not Kickback. If I need a leader for my Insecticlone swarm I might grab him. Sigh

Seriously, Shockwave and Starscream look tremendous compared to the other molds. I'm also excited for Fireflight. With a few paint apps and a Decepticon sticker, he'll look like a fan-character of mine.

For anyone who saw them in real life over the weekend, do you think it's possible they hid a third "hand-held blaster" mode in the Shockwave mold? I can't tell what's going on in the back, or where exactly his legs end up, but I'm hoping something can swing down to approximate a pistol.

I could be wrong, because I wasn't at Botcon, but the ones on display look like the same hand painted ones that were on display at Toy Fair. I'd imagine that the actual retail versions likely won't be as bright.

Going to have to get that Magnus.

I'm frankly amazed at the amount of retooling done to make Jazz into Sideswipe. I like it.

You're correct the retail versions were still fully painted samples, whereas the SDCC version was already in molded plastic colors. The vibrance on the regular version won't be the same, but I wouldn't automatically assume the bare plastic will appear more muted. As for the photos not depicting the brightness of the colors properly, I'm not sure it's even possible to saturate a photo that much.

Because these are "pre-G1" versions of the characters. Obviously, the technology for retractable weapons hadn't developed by then (Shockwave's gunhand is apparently permanent).
