I've got a question.

I recently purchased the Roadbuster head to put on the old Universe Roadbuster figure (CD Hot Shot), and I was wondering if typically you need to sand the product before painting and applying it?

It feels rough to the touch, but I've never ordered from them before, so I don't know if this is the norm or not.

Also, Primer then paint? Or just go to paint afterwards?

If you ordered it in any of the nylons, it will be rough like that all the way down to its very core. It is a characteristic of the material and the way the granules is fused in the 3D printing process. Absolutely prime it first. The porosity will just soak up paint. You may have some bleeding issues along edges as well, once again due to the granularity if the nylon prototyping material.

Sand or dreme it to get a well-defined surface, but experience showed me that this is never enough. Coat repeatedly with Pledge Future and then re-sand/carve the surfaces and details.

So what materials are best to order it in? And how long does it take from order to delivery?

Shapeways eh? Possibly frosted ultra-detail, but then I have yet to buy one of their products as yet, so I'm only going by what others have suggested.

A head doesn't need to be as strong, so go for the ultra-detail plastics, the extra cost will be worth it. Structural elements you might want to stick with the cheap "white and strong" plastic and smooth it out yourself.

I did manage to get my Thugger to have pretty smooth flat surfaces, but the details were a lot harder to get cleaned up. You might not be able to get the head to look right...use it for practice and order a second one in ultra-detail plastic for the final result.

The Roadbuster head I ordered is the recommended "Transparent Detail" option, if that helps.

I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a shapeways Punch/Counterpunch head. Is frosted Ultra detail still the way to go?
