While there's no way to know how many more seasons we're going to get (who knows; S3 could easily be the last), it would be awesome if each season had a Pinkie episode immediately preceding the finale, as both S1 and S2 have.

Hm. Didn't really think the story was as good as the last few, but still enjoyed that episode, had some funny moments. I especially loved "Are you okay, thief?" Pinkie, you so sweet~

Sibsy didn't storyboard this particular episode. As far as background gags, I'm certainly not the only layout artist that likes to toss them in. I'm not sure if that Berry Punch thing was in the storyboards or not.

That one was really fun, and I liked that several of the clues were actually consistently there from the beginning and not slopped on at the end (you'd be surprised how few cartoons with "mystery" episodes actually do this). I noticed Rarity's mane covering one eye the whole time, but not the false eyelash on the painting (and yeah, I had to check back to see if it was there; and it was!).

Playing a game of Hasbro's "Clue" with the little manilla envelopes was cute, kinda like the faux "Battleship" from a few episodes back.

Overall, a very fun Pinkie episode, though I'll admit, I was expecting either Pinkie to have eaten it in her sleep, or Applejack, as she was constantly making suspicious glances. Red herrings!

Well, this was an improvement over last week's, that's for sure but still not as great as two weeks before. Pinkie has been hit or miss this season for me.

First the good stuff...

* Yay, Fluttershy has lines again! I was actually worried she was gonna be mute again like last week, which would be even more jarring since her VA is rather prominent as Pinkie in this episode.
* Pinkie was tolerable, even funny at some points, possibly her best out of her three episodes.
* I figured out who the most likely suspects when I saw the preview clip. But still, better than something predictable like Pinkie sleep eating.
* Julia Child reference, I don't believe any kid will get that reference.
* The mystery aspect was thought out & clearly tried to treat the audience with a little more respect on this one.

There are some negatives though...
* The cutaways were funny but felt padded & made the actual investigation and resolution rushed. Honestly, more time could've been spent on other plot points.
* I have to admit, I can see Rainbow Dash taking a bit, maybe Rarity, but Fluttershy is pushing it a bit. I mean she's the Element of Kindness for crying out loud. They know how important the cake is to Pinkie Pie & should know not to cave into temptation so easily. Still, it's not major character derailment as some episodes **COUGH MAREDOWELL COUGH** & at least they apologized.

And how do Flutters and RD manago to balance it if BigM can barely lift it?
Not a huge thing, but i tend to get annoyed by such inconsistencies.

Still, a decent episode, not my favorite, but decent.

Nice to see more griffons though.

This was a pretty fun episode. True, it was very light on the actual investigation and the mystery was wrapped up very quickly, but those cutaways were pretty darn funny. They also give an interesting look at the kind of mental filters Pinkie seems to be using to see the world through. Boy, every day must be some kind of adventure for that one, lol. I also really liked how each cutaway kind of shifted styles to accommodate what was being parodied. It was a bit like that Powerpuff Girls episode 'The Bare Facts', which was one of the better efforts from that series; though that was more a Rashomon effect whereas this was just Pinkie being nutty. This episode wasn't quite as good as Season 1's pre-finale Pinkie episode, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless. Sleeping Pinkie was absolutely adorable; and apparently she's part dog.

Carrot Top and Berry Punch fawning all over Pony Joe in the Bond parody made me chuckle, I have to admit. Though Twi was a little mean in her description of the poor guy. You wouldn't normally expect her to be so insensitive (especially as she seemed reasonably familiar with him in Canterlot, and is a customer at his shop). I also liked the way Rarity boosted him up afterwards (judging by the look on his face, he really appreciated it, too)... and if you look at Twi, she's staring at Rarity slack-jawed while she says it, heh.

Another thing I liked about this was Pinkie and Twilight's dynamic. They make a good (and funny) team, by and large, and I really liked Twi's patient encouragement this time around (she's learning, I guess). I'm starting to think she's a bit of a germaphobe/mysophobe, though. She didn't seem to like Winona licking her face, either; and now wiping down the bubble pipe, lol. I mean, when dealing with people you don't know very well, I get it, but for friends it hardly matters. We're all mostly water, anyway.

I did notice Rarity's hair had changed, but I had to go back to see the eyelash on the picture that people were talking about. That's pretty impressive for a kid's show, to bother with that level of consistency. But I'm not sure why Rarity got so bent out of shape about having to admit she wears fake eyelashes. We already knew she did, from the opening scene of 'The Best Night Ever'; and all her friends must've known it, too.

I didn't get the Julia Child reference 'til I saw it mentioned in the thread. I agree very few children would ever notice that. I've never been big on cooking programs, and the last time I heard anything about Julia Child (seriously) was when my uncle had bought a brand new Windows 95 PC (the first time I'd ever used that OS), and my aunt was pretty excited about this little gem from the Microsoft Home software line, lol. Personally, I spent more time playing Microsoft Hover.

But really, since when is Rainbow able to successfully hide from Pinkie? There's always been an amusing futility in her efforts before. Maybe it only works when Pinkie knows who she's chasing?

Yeah, sometimes it's less the weight of something and more its dimensions, shape, or even the structure of it that make it unweildy to try and relocate. I can see a giant cake like that being a huge pain in the flank to move around.

Julia Child was an author (culinary art books mostly, I think) and popular television chef, among other things. She was on TV as far back as the 1970s, I believe, so it's unlikely kids today would've really heard of her.

Decent episode. Not outrageously brilliant, but decent.

Twilight's showing pretty little concern for Pinkie's ego, btw. Came off as pretty arrogant. Justifiably arrogant, given Pinkie's antics, but arrogant.

Fluttershy actually has a fairly extensive history with... Appropriating things without much thought, and regardless of who's technically the owner. The Ticket Master, Swarm of the Century, A Bird in the Hoof, The Best Night Ever all point in this direction to a greater or lesser extend.

I thought it was deliciously brilliant! I don't know about the source material (everybody being the culprit) so my guess in the beginning was Rainbow Dash based on the speed of the person moving in the dark. I should have figured Rarity for the explanation on the self closing blinds though. I DID think Applejack could possibly be the biter because she's got that drooly face but, yeah, element of honesty. Absolutely no way (last round up notwithstanding).

Donut Joe was suave, lol! I was going to ask who Julia Child was too. Love the ninja bit. Yay griffin! What do you call that Hooded Claw, Er trope with the moustache and tying ladies to trains? Who was the original guy like that?

Come to think about it, there was a scene in Gremlins 2 where the main protagonist (the one who is not Gizmo) is having dinner with his boss at a ridiculously fancy restaurant. The highlight of the meal? A life-size chocolate moose.

Coincidentally, I somehow missed the Julia Child reference until it was stated here. Which is rather odd--I've long been an avid viewer of various culinary shows (mostly the stuff of PBS), and Julia Child was one of the first, one of the best, and one of my favorites. Also, a minor addition to the explanation given: Julia Child is more-or-less the most famous TV chef in American history because she was one of the first and she explained French cuisine to the masses.

I did not know the episode's title, so when the contestants boarded the train, it dawned on me - Primus, this is "Murder on the Orient Express", but with desserts instead of victims, and Pinkie Pie instead of Poirot.

Also, nice to see another griffin.

Since the train picked up all three bakers at Ponyville, does it mean that they all live there? Ponyville's a small town so they should've been recognized. And I thought Donut Joe came from Canterlot?

Also, the judges didn't even bother tasting the dessert. It just won from looks alone?

Joe was in Ponyville to get some special sprinkles for his donuts.

I guess it could be Canterlot being in the mountains only has one track leading to it, and with Ponyville being the closest town, it's the main junction point for travelers.

I think part of the reason it's been quiet on the forums in general is that there was no new episode this week, so there was no discussion leading up to it and following it. I expect the upcoming 2-parter will generate a fair bit of discussion though. I don't mind it being a little quiet sometimes (less distractions for me from work).

I've also noticed the activity dropping a bit over the past month or so; each episode thread seems to be a bit less populous. I'm hoping things will pick up again when we get into Season 3, however many episodes that ends up being. And the Royal Wedding 2-parter next week should generate some discussion; if only for the background it gives us on Twi and her family. I'm curious how much older her brother is, which would settle a few questions about the ages of the main six; I mean he's already old enough to be decently high up in his career, however one gets started in the Royal Guard; not to mention getting married.

Well, I haven't been routinely posting in ep threads if I was in chat, and I haven't been rewatching. I'll do some of that over the summer, and also plan to watch through Friendship is Witchcraft in the offseason. For images, there's just too many and I've declared bankruptcy--I give the EqD Drawfriend threads about four seconds per page unless an image really catches my eye. But in particular the last couple of months I've been invested in other non-pony related work.

That's not to say I didn't spend nearly two hours Friday night watching Part 3 of Turnabout Storm. Because that happened.

I avoid discussion threads before seeing the episode, because of possible spoilers (same reason you won't find me in the secret agent mane thread). And when I had finally seen the episode, everything had been covered already.

But I fully expect the next two episodes to bring us a lot of discussion material.
