So, didja hear? Pac-Man is getting a new animated series!

It's being co-produced by Avi Arad and Rick Ungar (X-Men: Evolution, Biker Mice from Mars), will be in 3D, and is coming to Disney XD in Fall 2013.

More info and a blurry video can be seen here.

Plus, the original Pac-Man cartoon's first season just came out on DVD, though $35.99 seems a bit much for only one of the two seasons.

As far as the new one goes, I'm hoping this leads to a new round of Pac-Merchandise... seems like a natural direction, given that Bandai Namco are the owners of the IP.

Above is the original post; the latest info, with a new clip, screens, and galleries of the toys can be seen here.

Isn't the price of the original Pac-Man season one cartoon that high because it's only available through Warner Archives?
LBD "Nytetrayn"
Got me, but it's on Amazon, for whatever that's worth.

Pac-Man's voice is a tad... grating. I grew up with the Hanna Barbara series, so I'm so used to seeing him as a middle class family man that suddeny "squeaky voiced kid" has taken me by surprise.

The show looks neat, though, and I like how they're incorporating all the abstract concepts of the arcade game into a semi-coherent universe.

And was that Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde at the end?

Anyway, I'll give it a shot.
Kalidor
Looks terrible.
Zek
^ Kinda....

I mean, no matter what way you cut it, it's still a show based on a game from the infancy of the industry.

It's some manner of incredible challenge to make it any good while still incorporating everything that it is.
spikeriley
Yeah, but you all got to remember, the kid Pac-Man of the new show is because it take place when Pac-Man starts to become the hero he is in the video games.
Kalidor
Yes, but it also means no Ms. Pac-Man and no Pac-Baby.

The show from the 80s wasn't great, but it was a pretty original take on what amounts to a game based on a guy eating pills at a rave.

Exactly, as this is set before Pac-Man met Ms. Pac-Man.
LBD "Nytetrayn"
Maybe that will come later on in the show... and she can actually be MS. Pac-Man, instead of his wife, Pepper.

As for the voice, it's grown on me. But yeah, it caught me off-guard as well. Still, I think it will help appeal to kids, which is what the franchise really needs right now, in my opinion.

And yes, those are the ghosts in there, though I think I heard somewhere (mind, this was over a year ago) that they're his friends? Could make for an interesting tale...

If you want a better look at the designs, here they are in one of the games.

Well, you guys enjoy your show. The voice acting is terrible, the premise is terrible, the animation is terrible and the music is terrible.

I won't be watching it.

Well, I won't know if I'll enjoy it until I watch it. I'll at least give it a chance.

I like this idea. I think I'll go with this.

...incidentally, I think a teaser trailer is probably not the best thing to gauge voice acting by, but it seemed alright to me for what it was.

I remember seeing this video quite a while ago. I predicted then that the purple pac-girl with the buckled boots was the daughter of the evil ghost overlord with his buckled gloves. She has a kind of goth quality about her, and he's a ghost. Yeah, I think there'll be some plot twist about that. And could they not make a non-3D trailer available? The fact that this blurry thing is still all we have to go on is just sad.
LBD "Nytetrayn"
Bumping, as I just put this together.

Digging some of those toys, and there's a new clip. Also, it appears that Ian Corlett is Blinky and Sir Cumference.

Well, I gave it five minutes. That was enough.

I mean, I like the cast; a lot of Canadian voice actors from shows I've enjoyed, old and new. Pinkie Pie as Hipster Ms. Pac-Man, but more importantly, it's a blast from the past to hear Ian Corlett again (and doing his Master Roshi voice, no less). I can't remember the last show I heard him in. I mean, yeah, I know he's a regular on Johnny Test but I AM NOT WATCHING JOHNNY TEST.

The humor's really stilted and cliche' and the animation's not so good. And is Pac-Man eating ghosts that aren't blinking? You can't do that! jeez, even the Hanna Barbera cartoon was competent enough to get that right.
LBD "Nytetrayn"
Well, it is a reboot of sorts. I don't know if they have a specific thing set up for the blinking or not, though we saw some of that in the first clip, if I remember right.

I think the glowing might be saved more for the possessions and zappings; Pac is still eating berry-pellets to go after them, though.

ZacWilliam1
Goth-Lolita PAC-Girl is not right.

-ZacWilliam or so I want to complain despite everything else being just as wierd...
MrBlud
That was rough.

Pac-Man's voice doesn't really fit either IMO.

Actually, this "style" is intentional, it's gotten popular in a lot of CGI animation shows recently, specifically the cheaper, cartoony ones. It's an attempt to imitate older cartoons but it can be a bit weird and erratic if you're not used to it.
Mako Crab
Hooo boy. I guess I'll reserve judgment until I can see a full episode, but it's just hard to watch even a 5 minute clip. Maybe once I see the 4 original ghosts in action, I'll enjoy it more.

Might work better with the 3D effect, too.

The very existence of this cartoon scares me.

"PacWorld War 1."

Okay, what?
Waspinator
Obviously, the mazes in the games where you chase ghosts are actually for trench warfare.
spikeriley
Well, get ready. This show hasn't aired yet, but that didn't stop Namco form making a game tie-in...

All I can say is I hope this is good. I'm still freaked out at that Iguana power up.
