Call me if they make him Stranglehold or something at least, the mold isn't really good enough to bother with in new colors that are just "okay". Looks like a lost movie 1 Target redeco scout.
Shame they couldn't come up with something for the other two. I don't get what the fixation is with releasing TF Cybertron scouts in multiple venues, unchanged.

These are the same molds that were released unchanged for Universe 2.0.

Hasbro tends to use scouts as exclusives for the smaller stores and Cybertron was the last TF toyline to have decent scouts. Hasbro leaves them unchanged just to save money.

Sure wasn't. The Wal-Mart trio were (and remain at some stores, a shame at two bucks a whack) Backstop, Brakedown, and Brushguard. This new wave also has some blue Jungle Planet Cyber Keys, so that's a little different too.

What... ARE these?
I mean, they aren't gold, so not RTS, but Generations doesn't have Scouts and they don't say "Generations" on them like the Deluxes, so...
Maybe a new Universe-style release for Dollar General and the like, this time with a repaint and a "new" figure?

Yeah, If I had to classify them, I'd say that they're still "Transformers" despite being red instead of gold. I mean, I don't think anyone considers the Activators part of Generations just because of their red cards. Same for the four single-pack Mini-Cons (Although their original classification was "Generations" by some sites, I think most fans have backed off of that designation by now).

I actually understand Wreckloose and Undermine far more than Backstop. They're relatively cheap figures that still sell despite being released a bazillion times each. Why invest the time and money to redeco them at all? Family Dollar, Big Lots, and apparently even Walmart will just keep buying them anyway...

These exact releases? In the "Transformers"/"Generations" packaging? Or the ones released in Universe 2.0 packaging that each had their original decoes (including "correctly" colored keys, not the blue ones that the "Generations" ones have)?
If it's the latter instead of the former, I think pretty much everyone knows about those

Thanks to these lines I got Undermine.(Who I wanted during Cybertron but could never find him.) I also got Backstomp for $2. I still feel like I got cheated for that one. Sort of like how they released the blue Cybertron Clocker from Target for the 2007 movie, then they repackaged it for Walmart of "UNiverse Cybertron Series", so then technically it was the Cybertron character, not a movie character. One toy, but two releases in different continuitires? So messed up.

I just don't get why they keep re-releasing these molds, of all things. The robot modes for Backstop and Undermine are some of the worst in recent memory. Backstop is a squatty side-view of a rhino with extra legs, head and an arm growing out of its ass, and Undermine's robot mode actually has less functional arms and head than his alt mode. How does that even begin to make sense?

And yes, for those who are wondering -
It's just easier for toy companies to make redecoes or to repackage previously released product whenever the stores want exclusive product.
For example, back in '88 TRU wanted Hasbro to produce some exclusive Joe product for their stores. The end result was the
Night Force subset, which consisted of select figures from the previous year's assortment and what "classic" vehicle molds they hadn't yet farmed out to Brazil or India, all of which were redone in black & gray. Thing is, Hasbro's policy of carrying product over for a full release year meant that the original 1987 versions of all those Night Force figures were still shipping to stores. As such, you could have hypothetically had
the general release 1987 Falcon figure sitting on the pegs next to
his Night Force incarnation. Given that the auction headings said "TF Club" on them, I'm wondering if these weren't intended as exclusives for general release somewhere. Backstop would, obviously, have to be redecoed as the original decos might still be on the shelves. But the other two haven't seen the light of day in a while. Furthermore, the fact that Backstop's bio has been altered suggests that we might even be looking at a separate character (kinda like how the Target redecoes of the Energon and Cybertron scouts were supposed to be the Movie-verse versions of those characters).
