News at ToonzoneI don't know anything about the comics, but I'm sure plenty of you all do. I am, however, happy to see another DC show on CN.

I'm glad that this is just called Young Justice, not Young Justice League like we first heard. The designs look nice, and since it includes Conner, and what are presumably Bart and Tim, there's no way I could not watch this.

Looks like Artemis is an amalgam of Arrowette and Speedy, with possibly a little Wonder Girl in the mix ("Artemis" being Greek).
Aqualad is a surprise, but I guess they needed a token black kid since YJ is pretty whitebread (and they can't include Cyborg like the Teen Titans comics did, since he's not a teen when Connor exists).
And yay: Bart and M'gann in the same show! This promises to be hilarious.

New Aqualad

I would have preferred Lagoon Boy over this new character. Sigh. He better not be named Garth. Miss Martian could have filled his slot for proper representation, I think.
I hope this is Peter David's Young Justice 'fun' Kon-El instead of Geoff John's Teen Titans 'stern' Connor.
From the other shows, Firebreather? I collected the first mini. I can't believe he actually has a TV show.

Also, that people will be using "Blaqualad" all over the internet very soon. (I'm so sorry.)

I doubt it; but I kinda find it interesting that Tim Drake is wearing what looks like a modified version of his Gotham Knights outfit, lacking any green that Robin outfits usually have to some degree.

I think the "serious"vibe is just because they're all posed for the poster. M'gann is the only one who doesn't look pissed off. She's the Holger Fath of YJ.

QUOTE(SwiftEagle @ Apr 21 2010, 02:46 PM)

I'd bet Artemis is basically going to be Ravager in all but name.
What makes you say that? Her costume pretty clearly evokes Green Arrow (and thus Speedy [though a more traditional look than the Red and Yellow outfit she's been wearing in the comics), and her earlier working name was a YJ-era accurate Arrowette, both of whom are more appropriate characters for a kids' TV show than Ravager.
Arrowette was pushed into superheroics by her mom, and eventually learned to become her own person. The newest Speedy is a timid, self-conscious rookie who must gradually learn to assert herself. Ravager is a victim of parental abuse who seeks bloody vengeance, and must learn to follow the group's rules. Two of them are good template characters for a childrens' TV series. One of them isn't.
(Yes, I know BtAS/JLU could've gotten away with Ravager, but it was older-audience fare that aired [in some markets at least] as a prime-time series. A show with teenaged leads is going to be a family-friendly show. Expect this to air on Saturday mornings.)
Ravager may well show up later into the show, but they wouldn't put an anger-driven avenger as a lead in the pilot.

My wife pointed out that I was misreading the art, and she wasn't just an angry-looking Amazon, but an archer in green. So, yeah. Green Arrow analogue where I was expecting her to be the Wonder Woman-alike based on the name. I'd been thinking she was going to be the cartoon-superhero-team-mandatory rebellious violent hothead, hence the Ravager conclusion. I hereby retract my prediction!

Short explination, iirc: J'onn is the last Green Martian. This is Miss Martian, a White Martian, who disguises herself as a female J'onn becuase her race has a bad reputation.

I can't wait. I'm glad to see YJ in action again, even if they are a bit modified. Would've been awesome to get the team as they were, with Secret, Wondergirl and Arrowette and then progress like it eventually did. But oh well, this will work.

May 9 2010, 06:41 PM
I want the titans to appear. Or at least Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg. Voiced by their old voice actors. And as teens like in the cartoon. So they help YJ.
Cybersnark
May 9 2010, 07:10 PM
Actually, having the original Titans appear as tweens ('cause Beast Boy and Raven still aren't adults, technically [BB seems to age slower than normal, and Raven has died and "reset" to 16-ish]) would be a cool "passing the torch" moment. Teen Titans is over; now it's time for a new generation to take over, with the implication that YJ will eventually grow into the Heroes they're meant to be.
(Well, maybe not Connor or Bart. . .)
Stungun
May 9 2010, 07:40 PM
Technically, the original Titans would be Nightwing, Tempest, Flash, Troia, and Red Arrow. I'd like to see them pass the torch on to the Titans and YJ. If Michael Rosenbaum voiced Flash again, I would be overjoyed.
Hey, maybe Jaime Reyes could take Robin's place as the fifth member of the Titans? He's pretty much my favorite superhero anyway
And if they were tweens, wouldn't they be YOUNGER than Young Justice? Since Tweens are like 10-12, dude.
Cybersnark
May 10 2010, 09:52 AM
See, I always parsed "tween" as "twenty-something 'teen'" --people who can't be called "teens," but still don't count as "adults" (who are universally seen as in their late-20s, 30s, and 40s). IIRC that was how the word was originally used (when people started realizing that you don't magically become a responsible, mature, well-educated adult when you hit 20) before the pre-teens somehow got it slapped on them.
(And I was thinking "original Titans" like the TT animated series. No Donna Troy, though Red Arrow, Tempest, and Flash all fit since they at least made guest appearances.)

I am very excited. I mean, wow, that animation looks on par with what we've been seeing in the DCU straight to video movies, and this is a weekly TV series!
Nicest thing about this project is that there are no more stupid "embargos", like the ones that were neutering JLU, Teen Titans and The Batman. They don't care anymore if other versions of their characters appear in different shows simultaneously and are giving the creators free reign to use who they want. Thank you!
Can't wait for this.

I hate to be "that guy" on this issue, but this barely qualifies as Young Justice. If it weren't for Not-Arrowette, who seems superfluous if Speedy's going to be around anyway, it would just be Teen Titans 2. Why not use Secret or Empress if you're just changing Arrowette anyway? I'll still give it a shot, but is there something so wrong with Bart that they refuse to use Impulse? Heck, even Bart in the Kid Flash suit would be a step up from just another Wally.

Cybersnark
Jul 23 2010, 09:23 PM
Could go either way at this point; they said it's a "young" DCU, so they could still be on their first Flash. We don't even know if Robin is Dick or Tim (it's clearly not Jason because he's smiling). Admittedly, having Superboy and M'gann around suggests that this is Tim and Bart, but until the show starts, we won't know for sure.
Not that that's gonna stop the haters and doomsayers, of course. . .

I like the look of it! Except Superboy's... er... costume? Is that really what he's gonna wear? I mean, I'm not suggesting he go the tights, kneehigh boots and overpants route of his namesake, but a black, emblazoned shirt and blue slacks isn't really going to fool many people. Unless, of course, he's not even going to bother with the secret identity thing. Then it makes more sense, and I can respect that as a design choice. (I will admit to not knowing enough about it to remember if particular incarnations of the modern Superboy bothers with the ol' SI or not)
