Full Version: Is the chimney sweep industry booming?

If you watch Hulu on a regular basis it would sure seem that way. Every other add seems to be for A Step in Time chimney sweeps. And the commercials aren't exactly big budget. I just wanna know why chimney sweeps would need national advertisement on a service as expensive as Hulu must be.

Just... what the hell?

Two thoughts:

1) Is Hulu really that expensive to advertise on? Has it become that popular that quickly?

2) What with prices on heating oil going up, it makes sense that people would be using their fireplaces more for heating. Hence the need for chimney sweeps.

Are fireplaces really that common these days?
And with that in mind... how much does it actually cost to have your chimney swept?

LOOK! AN OPENING!

Fairly common, I think. At least in older homes, anyway.

Are you coming on to me? But, seriously, no idea how much. Unless you're keeping a fire going 24/7, though, it's a once-a-year expense. Less often if you don't use the fireplace that often and use a sweeping log or the like.

Really, Cheets, stop coming on to me.

Chim chiminee,
Chim chim cheri,
A sweep is as lucky as lucky can be.

(That was one of my mom's favourite films. I saw it far more often than was healthy. icon-ball.gif )
wonko the sane?
Wood Burning Stoves are getting dirt cheap and are fairly common. Hell, just about everyone I know whom own their own homes have had them installed in the last two or three years.

Also seem to be a trend in newer homes as well in some format or another. I believe it's about 100-200$ to have ours done.

A quick google makes it look like they're just a regional east coast company. Maybe hulu localizes ads?

At first I thought it might have been a "fake ad" campaign, which would be part of a market research effort to see what kind of buzz it would generate, and then hulu could use it to demonstrate value of advertising through them. But it looks to be a real company.

Right now is definitely the right time to get your chimney swept though, as we're getting into winter and people start firing on the stoves/furnaces/fireplaces. So if a chimney sweep is gonna advertise, this is the right time to do it.

Take a trip on out to suburbia, most McMansions come standard with at least one chimney/fireplace if only primarily for show, older houses too but that's already been mentioned

The hulu ads I get are either for some church group or Milkquarious. icon-fire.gif
