Full Version: Using Microman with Transformers

So, having gotten Perceptor's TRU reissue, I'm in the market for a Microman figure or two just to say I'm getting the most out of him. In particular, the notion of Protector Elita Seven got me in the frame of mind of hunting down some Microlady figures to serve as Synthoids, particularly Marl and Eriss.

Are these figures any good? Best I can seem to find for ordering them is a Hong Kong seller, so the shipping is kind of steep.

Acro Elsa comes with a girfriend for Ravage, if that makes any difference in your decision icon-fire.gif

Acro Elsa and Acro Plana (and Batgirl and a blank female body) are the only female Microman figures I have. I do very much like Acro Elsa, even though her head and arms like to fall off. (They're held on by a smooth peg, so there's nothing really holding them.) Acro Plana...well don't get any of the Microman female figures that use the largest bust size. They're pretty absurd.

The Palisades reissue Micronauts or Takara classic Microman reissues from a few years back actually work the best (since they were designed to work together in the first place) and aren't hard to come by.

Just for kicks, all Micromasters and Action Masters bases and transports are compatible with any of the LED Microman figures from around 2000, which can be pretty entertaining. I've got the MicroRocket Base hooked up to G1 Countdown's base half the time for that very reason.

I think I'm actually leaning towards Eriss because her accessory weaponry disguises as a syringe. Kind of fits with Perceptor.

I pick Automaster Ryan, not necessarily because of anything to do with TFs, but just because ride armor is always cool.

I use plenty of Microman stuff with my TFs, but not the newer stuff... the Microman 2000 1/24 scale Magne Power ones. I use Super Robotman Endeavor (TRU redeco) as Classics Ruination, who is a separate person from Onslaught and the rest of the Combaticons. I also use Super Robotman Dean (TRU redeco) as Dai Atlas. I know it's not a great fit, but I just liked the name. They're sweet toys normally, but the redecos are just beautiful and IMO far superior, I was lucky to get them.

Also, the Magne Power Robotmen work well. I use Robot-Ace and Hurricane Bird, Robotman Cross, and Robotman Baron as Nucleon-powered fighters who are able to reassemble themselves if destroyed. (Ruination shares the same backstory). I also use gun-body, jet-mogler, and razor-master as Gunbarrel, Drill-Bit, and Razor-Sharp. They combine with either Ruination or the other Magne-Power Robotmen, as seen in the link. I also used the Giant Acroyear for a while, but sold it; I didn't like it as much as the other toys.

The Microman Change Troopers also work well for the same purpose. I usually have these guys, along with Dean, allied with the Autobots and all the other ones with the Decepticons.

Finally there is the Microman Microboy, which is a Soundwave/Reflector/Real Gear type of robot that actually functions as a powersuit for the 1/24 Microman figures to ride in, but look like robots on their own (as do the Super Robotmen.)

I'm sure there's more, but those are the ones that I have and personally use. icon-hotrod.gif

I also have Automaster Ryan, and I use the assembled Biomachine as the powersuit that the Predacons built to take over Optimal Optimus' body. (seriously. The humans recover it and use it as a template to build their own powered suits.)

Speaking as one who hunted it down mercilessly, Microboy (I have the Purple Sword version) isn't actually all the great. He's mostly hollow and exists for the purpose of showcasing an admittedly neat IR gimmick that starts the transformation.

The recycled late G1 toys are all great, however. Particularly MicroRocket Base.

I picked up a BioMachine figure back a few years ago (they actually were released in US retail). I don't know if I could recommend them, as Godoh's foot snapped off at the ankle joint... apparently the Bio Machine Micromen are fragile, at least compared to regular Micros.

I actually found all four Biomachine figures at the comic shop yesterday. I bought Xeku, and might go back and pick up the others next weekend when the comic shop is having a sale.

Since I initially posted this, I have gotten hella addicted to Microman. At first finding shops, online or otherwise that stock them was kind of hard, but I found one site that specializes in 3.75" figures, and has a bunch of them.

Reading the translated bios online is kind of neat. I hadn't realized there was a bit of a storyline to these.

Microman actually has a pretty long and winding storyline. It's mostly confined to toy fiction and manga, however, so it isn't terribly well known. I couldn't really get into to the new Microman lines after the LED Powers line ended, since the new figures are really fragile while the 2000ish line had really rugged, playable designs.
