I remember us seeing early factory samples of these. I was totally holding out for that version of Optimus and when it didn't look like it was coming, I caved and bought Grand Convoy.

I don't remember that Prime at all, but I do remember liking the Megatron because he would've made a good "corrupted" Megatron when he was under Unicron's influence, before he got turned into Galvatron by jumping into that super energon pool.

Always liked that Megatron color scheme, it was nice and distinctive. Very different from alot of the other Megatron repaints we get.

I like the idea of a relatively unified color set for Energon Prime.
I still really want to have that toy reused again. So under-appreciated.

I still really like that Megatron color scheme, but probably wouldn't want to see it used before we got a nice Galvatron release using the smaller mold. They can keep the larger mold. I recall the Optimus not really looking all that great at the time, and the mold doesn't scream for a reuse to me, so eh.
Shame there aren't large, high quality copies of these without the watermarks. Kind of hard to appreciate the art in this limited form.

Can I get local mirrors of the images? My work computer blocks deviantart. Thanks!

They are different. I wonder what the story behind them was to be? Was the Megatron mold named Megatron or a Galvatron?

This is what Dan Khanna had to say about it:
QUOTE
Here's an old pic of some boxart I did for Hasbro on the Transformers Energon line back in 2004. It was for a store exclusive black and green redeco of leader Class Megatron which never was released. This and the Energon Leader class Prime were both box art pieces I was pretty fond of though, and I don't believe I've put them up online before.

I like that Megatron, but I could have swore the one we saw back in 2004 was brown?
Well, guess it was probably a custom.

I meant in the fiction:
Megatron falls into a vat of spoiled liquid energon and comes out as Toxic Avenging Megatron! The first radio active Decepticon of super-cybertronian size and strength to come from Kaon.
Optimus Prime funds a dead human who slipped off a roof while delivering packages, and decides to finish the man's deliveries, not knowing he would become subject to the "Santa Clause" and become St. Nick Prime!

The red was a bit too bright, and the yellow a little jarring if I remember right.

No, he was a warm gray if I recall correctly.

The Megatron looks somewhat similar color-wise to the black and green lucky draw Micron Legend Megatron. Wonder what they'd look like displayed side by side. That would certainly be a pricey display.

He also has a nice Energon prowl Powerlink on his earthlink site.
Someone paid $108 for this original. I just printed it on the company printer... ;-)
