I'm not sure if I like this game or not, but damned if I'm not going to beat it. I think I'm halfway through the original campaign now. Then it's on to Storm of Zehir!
I miss the radial menus from NWN1, as well as the ability to rotate my view by moving my mouse to the edge of the screen. That functionality exists in NWN2, but it's way too sensitive, even on the lowest settings.

NWN2 shoehorns your character into a specific background, regardless of his race and class. The first game felt rather more open in terms of what your character's history could be. The story so far, however, has been rich and populated with interesting characters. Most of the voice-acting is meager at best and the pronunciations of certain words (like Hosttower) are blatantly (though consistently) wrong. Where it's good, it's damn fine. Most of the henchmen are very well-done. I'm continually amused by the fact that my character sounds like Steven Colbert.

The combat is better. The quick-cast menu makes up somewhat for the lack of radial menu and helps keep me immediately aware of my characters' spell loadouts. You can now take direct control of any member of your party at any time, though NPCs still speak only to your character.

The graphics range from awful to gorgeous. Spell effects are the latter. Faces and bodies are the former.

The load-screens... my God. There are load-screens to load load-screens. A few nights back, when I was suffering from a toothache and out of ibuprophen, I tried playing a little NWN2 to distract me from the agony. I grew painfully aware of how many load-screens this game has. I keep my TV on when I play so I have something to entertain me while waiting for the next load-screen to load.

Has anyone else played this?

Have you gotten to the heavily talky and ultimately awesomest part of the game yet? It's fantastic if you've got skill points in social skills. On the whole I thought it was pretty decent. Mask of the Betrayer is many times better, with phenomenal characters and story, but I never got to finish it because my computer could never run it that well and later broke before I could try again.

*looks at his still sealed copy of NWN2* Think anyone would buy this?

I've played a bit of NWN2--IT WAS FIVE DOLLARS OKAY--and also have Storm of Zehir. I'm with you on not sure I like it or not. I was going to play more, but then I got Dragon Age. icon-fire.gif

What's with you people skipping Mask of the Betrayer? icon-megs.gif

It wasn't five dollars.

If you go in for screenshot LPs, a dude recently finished NwN2 here.

And he's just getting in to chapter 2 of Mask on the SA boards. icon-ironhide.gif

Spiffy.

I'm almost done with the core campaign. Probably finish it Monday or Tuesday.
