So the usual 20-25% off sale has been changed to 40% off. Awesome! Wait, what? 40% off MSRP instead of 20% off Deepdiscount.com's usual prices?

Yeah, that's not so great. So much for getting awesome deals this year...

Yeah, I felt bad about ordering something the day before it started, until I realized that it was off MSRP and I would have saved less than a buck by waiting.

Now can someone explain to me what MSRP is and why it's a bad thing here? =\

MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

Deepdiscount.com and that type of site typically offer items below MSRP. They can still make a profit because their actual cost to get the item is less than what they are selling it to you for.

Here's an example of why this sucks, with pretend numbers.

Star Trek DVD MSRP = $29.99
Deepdiscount.com price = $18.99
If their sale was 20% off the normal Deepdiscount.com price, like in past years, the new price would be $15.19.
Under the current sale, 40% off of MSRP, the price would be $17.99.

Oh, okay.

Well this sucks then.
