I've been playing a lot of Horde this past week, taking advantage of the triple XP event to level up Baird and get some achievements, and all I'd like to say is...
WTF is with all the people dropping out without a word, either before a game even starts, or when we first fail a wave?
Ok, I get that sometimes people need to go, particularly after a game's been going on for quite some time, and I understand that. People need to go to work, or to sleep, or to have dinner with their families. That's fine. These people are exempt from my rant.
What gets me is the people who, the FIRST time we fail a wave, suddenly poof! they're gone. Rather than try again, improve our strategy, do something that's an accomplishment....as soon as it's a little bit challenging these people disappear.
The grand winner was a five-person Horde team who, the second we saw what map we'd be on...three people vanished. !!! Me and the last guy ended up playing through 25 (!) waves--the highest I've ever gotten--just the two of us. Any money had we had another couple people with the same level of teamwork and skill--and I don't consider myself particularly good--we could have survived all 50.
QUITTERS!!!
Oh, also, my gold Lancer is a newb detector. I can't recall how many times I've been asked where I got it and, no kidding, how much it cost and OMG where can I get one?!?!one!!?!. I wish I liked the Hammerburst better, because using a gold Hammerburst would really blow the newb's minds.

I'm not familiar with the WoW mode you're talking about(haven't played in over a year), but maybe they just don't feel like fighting all the way back up to whatever wave you got to before you died. I know WoW combat can get to be quite a bit of a grind and I personally got to the point that I could only play for very short bursts before I got bored with it. Could be the same for the people who were on your team.
As far as quitting when they saw the selected map, that's a bit different, it's also a key reason pick-up groups suck.
Frankly it sounds a lot less annoying than those who quit team vs team maps in Champions Online the minute their team starts to fall behind in the kill counts.
This probably belongs in the WoW thread, btw.

You wanna talk golden n00b detectors, I got accused of hacking because I had the gold Optimus and Megatron you got from preordering the RotF game.

Um, She's talking about Gears of War, not WoW.

Yep, guess i'll go change the title to make that more clear.
I have a friend who plays WoW and I can't even imagine spending the amount of time she spends going on raids and stuff with her guild.

Ah, I saw horde and immediately thought WoW. Couldn't get into GoW, so my knowledge of the game is rather lacking.

Yea that's why I don't play with randoms, they're always terrible, they quit if its not the map they wanted, they quit if they once(usually because of their own fault) or they yell at you for not helping them despite the fact that their idea of playing horde is to rush into 6 locusts at once with a shotgun.
I play with friends only and I prefer it that way, I haven't played with randoms in over a year and my online experience has been much better because of it.

yeah, the rage quitting is prettymuch why i gave up on any horde achievements.
That and when one guy would just camp in a corner and let everyon do the leg work.

GoW Horde used to be all that I played, and yes, that quitter thing does happen pretty much as you've said. The dropping out because it isn't the map they wanted is what I hated most. Campers tend to be newbies, and the best thing to do is to let them camp by their lonesome. After dying repeatedly with no one in sight to save them, they eventually figure out it's a team game.
Randoms are NOT always terrible. I have had far more positive experiences than negative experiences in my horde game time. I'm a casual player any more, and people on my friends list are always playing different games than I want to play. Yeah, playing with friends is ideal, but for the casual player it's the exception and not the rule.
I do miss the once and done way it used to be: everyone dies, game *completely* over. They made it too easy to get to 50, imo, as you can retry as many times as you want. I think I'll go and play some horde right now. It's been a while. I wonder if they have any events planned for Thanksgiving.

It's triple XP until Nov 16 for the celebration of one year of gears 2. The event'sbeen running since the 6th. I've been playing a LOT of matchmaking horde in the past week and levelling like mad, and had a lot of good experiences, but a few frustrating ones too.

If you think that is bad, wait until you see the online play of Fight Night Round 4. Players can quit when they get much punching in and when their boxer is tired, they can drop out and the match will be decided by desicion. The player will NOT be penalized for dropping out of the match.
At least that's a mistake THQ fixed in UFC 2009 Undisputed.

anyone wants to team up i will be on in a little playing.
Handle is dragonplasma.
Get five people can just do a private horde.
My experience is that people want certain maps. A lot of times people just drop out do to lag as well. Its hard to keep all five people in.
I'll be on for most of the night too

With the triple XP event there has been a new trend of people just sitting around doing nothing to get easy XP, I had a game of Horde a couple of days ago and there was a guy who just stood in cover doing nothing, now he wasn't the usual player who just leaves the game to go and do something else because every now and again he'd move to a different piece of cover

OMG, how lame is that.
You are getting TRIPLE XP....I was already thinking my rank 22 is not solidly "earned" since I really only ought to be like 15 if you didn't count promo events with double or triple XP......at least do SOMETHING?!

Yeah I've been complaining about the online horde matchmaking system for awhile now, the quitters are annoying, exp penalties would slow the frequency but wouldn't stop it completely. What annoys me more than anything is the host having all the power to keep the game going or ending it abruptly . Horde is a time consuming endeavor so if your not committed to sticking it out until at least the 1st time everyone dies don't waste other peoples time.
