Full Version: UP on DVD

A little advice needed here. I've herd nothing but good things about UP (aside from the depressing aspects), and I want to buy it. But I'm torn wether or not to buy the Standard DVD or the Special Edition.

The Standard DVD has Dug's adventure, and another animated short...
but the Special edition (at 10 dollars extra) has alternate scenes.

That's what makes it hard to decide... I REALLY like extra footage... but, is it worth the 10 bucks...

Amazon has the two-disc for $20, single-disc for $15, eligible for free shipping on orders of $25 or more. The narrower gap in prices may help you make up your mind. icon-hotrod.gif

---Dave, got the two-disc version at Target for $23 with a free "adventure journal" he'll give to his nieces.

Geez, the special edition is $10 more? That's quite a big difference; most DVDs seem to have a couple dollars difference at most between 1 and 2 disc editions. I picked up the 4-disc Blu-Ray Steelbook edition at Future Shop on Tuesday for about $30 CDN. The movie is definitely worth buying, but whether or not you want to spend the extra foro the special edition depends on if you really want the bonus features or not. Pixar's bonus features are usually pretty top-notch, though. I haven't had a chance to watch them yet.

rented the regular. It does NOT have dugs adventure. It doesn't even have a main menu.
It does have a delightful 10 minute video saying why you should buy the special edition though.

Buy the special edition.

well, I don't have access to internet commerce.... and this is at wal-mart.

There's a $10 internet coupon for the combo pack here. Hurry though, it's only good until the 17th.

I wish I knew of that coupon before I bought it Tuesday.

Have your receipt? Perhaps you could return it and then repurchase. Or hell, just take it into the store. They might be willing to accept it and give you $10 back. Never tried that before myself though.

Good luck!

Got it on Blu-Ray and it was worth it.

I brought the coupon & my receipt with me to Wal-Mart, and after 10 minutes of going back and forth, they finally honored my coupon so I got the Blu-Ray for $10, since it was on sale for $20 (instead of $30) and the $10 coupon. Thanks Wheels!

Disney/Pixar no longer includes any Special Features on their rental/library DVD's.

It's really awful how this movie is just NOW coming to theatres over here. Seriously, first Swedish Film F's up the release schedual for every summer movie last year because of that Arn travesty wich cost too much and nobody watched and now this.

Menus are considered special features now, lol?
Big Show
This was a really cute movie, but I'll never watch it again. Sobbing in the theater with my wife and kids is NOT something I'm desperate to re-live. icon-fire.gif

Is there a point to have menus when there's nothing to navigate?

I'm holding off buying Up until I get a Blu Ray player. Finally decided its time to upgrade since I have an HDTV. I'd been putting it off until the players got cheaper and because I didn't like the idea of having to update my player every time disks were pressed that were incompatible with it.

Guess I better just get with the times.

Any player worth buying these days is able to accept firmware updates, but I don't think they're necessary as often as some people have claimed. Although it's not a problem for me personally, as I use my desktop to play Blu-Rays through my TV and surround system (using DVI and coaxial SPDIF connections, respectively), and thanks to AnyDVD I never need to update my player software for compatibility with newer forms of AACS of BD+.
