Full Version: How should Leader Starscream be redecoed?

So if you had to pick one redeco for ROTF Leader Starscream, what would it be?
Solarstorm
Sunstorm!!!

With that out of my system...

Probably something new. The movie mold is too unique for the traditional seekers. I wasn't very impressed with G1 Screamer, Thundercracker, Ramjet, and Skywarp.

Maybe like the red and gold Japanese HDDVD exclusive figure from 2007. I thought that looked great.
Octavius Prime
Thundercracker. If only because he generally gets relegated to exclusive status in some way. And I think I can live without the head remold to match Voy. Thundercracker.

Premium please!
Moroboshi Ataru
Skywarp! I can never get enough of that color scheme, esp. when they use the beautiful metallic purple paint applications; it's just an iconic color scheme, too, since he is pretty much sporting the main colors of his faction.
NightViper
I'd prefer a non-Seeker homage, myself. Something like G2 Dreadwing maybe?

Skywarp tends to be an exclusive more than Thundercracker.

I don't think Starscream will get redecoed into another character - not at the Leader size. If he does, I want a Skywarp.

I'd like G1 colors personally, but instead of the typically colors, make him Pretender/Action Master colors with a black face, white helmet, blue arms and legs.

So that's why I was able to get Classics or Masterpiece Thundercracker in standard American retail markets.

I agree that Skywarp would be aesthetically better - as someone else noted, he's the Decepticon uniform guy, and it's a sharp uniform - but I don't have a big, cool, well-detailed Thundercracker.

Exclusive is exclusive, regardless of how limited it is. And give them time on the Masterpiece Thundercracker, you can't expect Hasbro to release him before Skywarp when Takara released Skywarp first then Thundercracker. Give it a couple years, I'm sure you'll see him.

As for who is more often an exclusive than not, I think I'm going to make a list for you to see that I am right.

Skywarp Exclusives:
  1. Classics
  2. 6" Titanium
  3. RotF
  4. Masterpiece
  5. Reissue TRU
  6. Machine Wars
  7. Henkei
  8. Japanese Reissue
  9. Robot Hero
  10. Bust
  11. Statue
  12. PVC
  13. Cybertron Legends
Skywarp Non-Exclusives:
  1. Animated
  2. Cybertron
  3. Universe 1.0
  4. Encore
  5. Japanese Masterpiece
  6. Armada
  7. Robot Master
  8. Smallest
  9. HOC
Thundercracker Exclusives:
  1. Classics
  2. Reissue TRU
  3. Machine Wars
  4. Henkei
  5. Japanese Reissue
  6. Bust
  7. Statue
  8. Smallest
Thundercracker Non-Exclusives:
  1. Animated Activator
  2. Cybertron
  3. Encore
  4. Japanese Masterpiece
  5. 6" Titanium
  6. Robot Hero
  7. Armada
  8. Armada Built To Rule
  9. 3" Titanium
  10. Movie
  11. Robot Master
  12. Myclone
  13. PVC
  14. HOC
  15. Cybertron Legends
Unless I'm forgetting something, of the last 22 Skywarp figures/merch 13 were exclusives, while 9 were non-exclusives, while of the last 23 Thundercracker releases, 8 were exclusives and 15 were non-exclusives, so YEAH! Thundercracker gets as many regular releases as Skywarp gets Exclusives, and Skywarp gets as many regular releases as Thundercracker gets exclusives.

The only Thundercracker that was hard to get was the Botcon figure & Smallest Transforming, while the PVC Skywarp (the Japanese one) is infinitely more difficult to acquire than any Botcon figure.

toys r us, walmart, target, & kmart are all american retail markets. therefor exclusives that are exclusive to any of those stores don't count in your list.

you know what he meant. he meant recent figures.. like he said masterpiece and botcon.

anyways. i really hope we don't get a seeker redeco.. i can't stand when they make say.. a starscream and a thundercracker.. then no skywarp.. or starscream and skywarp with no thundercracker.. i really hate that. they obviously wouldn't do both skywarp & thundercracker.. so what's the point.. i'd have my G1, my masterpiece, my classics/henkei/universe, & my first movie mold seekers together.. with just starscream and thundercracker.. it wouldn't look right.

i would prefer takara to do a premium/buster style starscream.. though other than a more accurate paint job there isn't much else they could really add that it doesn't already have.

i think it's strange that they haven't repainted prime yet.. i mean.. last movie the first leader repaint wave had nightwatch prime & desert attack (or whatever) brawl.. but with the wave of leaders with the black megatron, he's just being packed with the regular prime.. i wonder why they did that. maybe they're saving a prime repaint for starscream.. perhaps a battle damaged prime..

i definitely could see them doing a seeker repaint.. i'd like it to be thundercracker, i love the blue, but i REALLY REALLY hope they don't. I'd like to see a more accurate rotf leader starscream so that i can take the markings off of the first release and have him displayed with the 07 movie figures.
Nightblade
Skywarp is probably the only one I'd like enough to consider purchasing.

Although for something very unlikely, Thrust would be nice.
Jeremy
If anything, I'd like a metallic, non-tattoo version, or something we haven't seen for awhile like the Machine Wars Starscream colors, which could work as a same character "stealth" redeco or something. Since there's already a set of movie G1 Seekers, I don't really want to see them start another set at that price point.

Tell the people who were unable to find Wal-Mart exclusive Starscream that he isn't an exclusive. Heck, even Aaron Archer had to get one off of eBay because he couldn't find one.

With how difficult Wal-Mart exclusives are to find for some people, I think a lot of people would disagree with those kinds of figures counting as exclusives. A lot of people don't have K-Marts in there area, and even if they do, that doesn't mean they'll find their exclusives. Even if we follow your logic, that only elminates the Classics Thundercracker from the list, Japanese figures, SDCC Titanium Skywarp and Cybertron Legends Skywarp (who were both convention exclusives). So yeah, not really working in Thundercracker's favor as being a more limited/hard to find character, as Skywarp had two convention exclusives and Thundercracker only one.

Just to tickle my funny bone, I want to see how the list fairs if I do take out what doesn't count in your definition of 'Exclusive'.

Skywarp Exclusives:
  1. Classics
  2. 6" Titanium
  3. RotF
  4. Masterpiece
  5. Reissue TRU
  6. Machine Wars
  7. Henkei
  8. Japanese Reissue
  9. Robot Hero
  10. Bust
  11. Statue
  12. PVC
  13. Cybertron Legends
  14. Encore (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  15. Japanese Masterpiece (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  16. Robot Master (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  17. Smallest (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
Skywarp Non-Exclusives:
  1. Animated
  2. Cybertron
  3. Universe 1.0
  4. Armada
  5. HOC
Thundercracker Exclusives:
  1. Classics
  2. Reissue TRU
  3. Machine Wars
  4. Henkei
  5. Japanese Reissue
  6. Bust
  7. Statue
  8. Smallest
  9. Encore (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  10. Japanese Masterpiece (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  11. Robot Master (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  12. Myclone (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
  13. PVC (moved from Non-Exclusives since anything Japanese is an 'Exclusive')
Thundercracker Non-Exclusives:
  1. Animated Activator
  2. Cybertron
  3. 6" Titanium
  4. Robot Hero
  5. Armada
  6. Armada Built To Rule
  7. 3" Titanium
  8. Movie
  9. Cybertron Legends
  10. HOC
You've even proved my point with your logic. As you've made the exclusive amount of Skywarp to Thundercracker even, but TC's non-exclusive releases still out number Skywarp's by 2 with your definition of exclusive.

Lets see that's only happened a handful of times:

Action Masters only had Starscream & TC
Myclone only had Starscream & TC
3" Titaniums only had Starscream & TC
Armada Built To Rule only had Starscream & TC
Movie Legends only has Starscream & TC

Until 2009 the Movie line only had Starscream & TC
6" Titaniums only had Starscream & TC for 2 years

So it's happened 5 times, everytime Skywarp was the one left out, and twice he was left out for a long time. I'm willing to bet of those 5 times, the only ones people would probably care about are the Movie Legends if even that. I'm not counting USA Masterpiece because Skywarp just came out and there's plenty of time for a TC release in a couple years.

Skywarp did have his own Universe 1.0 figure without the others. Despite what you might think there is a Classics Thundercracker to go with Classics Starscream & Skywarp. So as it is a rare thing to get Starscream & Thundercracker without Skywarp, or (until there is a Hasbro MP TC) Starscream & Skywarp without Thundercracker.

Regardless, I'd still like a big Thundercracker, statistics and logic be damned.

Of course, in an ideal world, we'd get both.

Maybe Takara will do one and Hasbro will do the other. If that were the case, and the Takara one was reasonably priced (a difficult proposition, that), I'd get both.

On a somewhat different note, I'd still like Protoform Thundercracker and Ramjet as well.
Powered Convoy
I'd like both too. Or even better a IDW style F-22 Seeker Leader mold, but that will never happen.

I think the Leader figures are going to stay the same characters, so expect, if anything, an alternate Starscream.

you don't need a repaint/redeco for that.. you just need to a $1.99 bottle of some paint thinner and a few paper towels.

Not Leader Starscream, but Jetfire... I could live with this fan deco for his redeco:

I'm going with a Deep Space/silver version. A non-tattooed version for the first movie, especially with extra detailing or a shiny plane mode, would seem to fill a spot, and I know that several people didn't like the tattooe. Anything else is just making it up for the toy.
blahblahblah
after thinking about it..

i highly doubt there will be a thundercracker or skywarp.

i also highly doubt that there will be a premium/metallic finish starscream (unless made by takara)

for the first movie, other than the premium line, we only got 2 leader class repaints. there was night watch prime and desert brawl. with animated there were only 2 leader repaints, shadow megatron (or whatever) & roadbuster magnus. all of them stay the same character just a new name to justify the new color scheme.

i really don't think they're going to give us a new character or a premium style deco, it's just not the way hasbro does things. plus, the voyager skywarp is still on shelves. i can't remember the last time there were two repaints of the same character in a voyager then a leader in the same line. (that doesn't mean there hasn't been, it just means i can't recall that type of instance)
Powered Convoy
Yeah, I'm thinking any Leader recolors will be the same characters. Especially in the Movie line.
