Not true. The law was made because of Mercenaries 2. Its setting was accused of promoting violence aginst the country.

I can't say that I disagree with their reasoning. Not that I'm a fan of Hugo by any means, but a game that is pretty much designed to tell your kids to over throw the president is more than likely a bad idea. I also agree with the ideas that games promote "egoism, individualism, and violence."
However I think that giving people 5 years for selling is a bit to hardcore. It comes off as something akin to the sales of illegal drugs. While violent games aren't good for kids. they aren't THAT bad.
I wonder how this law gets applied to parents who buy the violent games. (like Grandma buy GTA4 for little Billy)
At any rate glad I don't live in Venezuela

Well Hugo would be offended by that joke.
Back on topic: Glad I don't live there, too.

indeed.
and honestly if your going to get butthurt over a game suggesting that your country and you as its leader are somehow lacking, perhaps you shouldnt be such a douchebag leader in the first place.

Why?
We have thousands of books and movies about that? Why should a game be any different?

Amen to that.
MrBlud: It's different in Venzuela because there's no free speech there.

That would explain banning that particular game. (Though I'd still disagree.) It doesn't remotely justify taking action against games in general.
wonko the sane?

Actually it's rather true. And to be honest I'd rather someone with aggression issues take it out on a video game. Than... other less pleasant ways.
