Anybody else watch this? I hadn't seen the original since I was about 4 or 5 (but back then I freaked out when someone's skin was coming off and I couldn't watch the rest of it) until they showed it again on the SyFy channel last weekend, where I saw the good majority of it (missed a few hours in the middle, but caught plenty of the beginning and endings).

It seems like it might be pretty interesting. Follows pretty closely to the original with the one added feature of having Visitors hiding out amongst us for decades. I have to say, they didn't waste any time establishing the main plot points (V's are evil lizard people, Nazi Youth Peace Ambassadors, 5th Column lizard rebels, human resistance) but I was glad of that, since most people are already pretty aware of the "surprises" from the original. It'll be interesting to see where they go with it.

Also, good to see Wash again. HIGHLIGHT to view:
Boy, guy sure has a thing with getting stabbed through the chest, doesn't he?
NightViper
I think that it'll be a good series, but this first episode was a little...meandering, I guess. Maybe the V's showing up shouldn't have been the first thing that happened in the episode, because going back and trying to establish the human characters afterward didn't really seem right. Wow, hey, here are these aliens showing up and promising all this new tech and medical science...And did we mention that she's an FBI agent, he's a priest, and the one guy used to be a terrorist? Yep, they are and, oh, here are the aliens again.

It wasn't bad, but it just seemed like they could have smoothed out the plot a little bit more.
JustSix
I was a huge fan of the original as a kid, and I'm excited about this new series. My only complaint is Mr. Exposition at the anti-V super-secret meeting. There had to have been some better way to get that all across without having Georgie regurgitate it all for us. It just felt like the whole sequence was just designed to introduce everything we already knew (evil lizards, Nazi youth, etc.) so they could move on. Just a bit jarring...
DeltaSeeker
Saw it last night. It did seem to dart around alot on the plot, but I guess they're trying to condense the original miniseries down to just a couple episodes?

I found the dig at Indepedence Day amusing icon-hotrod.gif

I loved the old series when I was younger and didn't even hear about this remake until this past weekend. Sadly I was at work and missed it so I'll hafta try to catch it at some point in time.

Should be on Hulu on Sat
The Predaking
I can't believe that I forgot to record this last night! I must have been really out of it.

Oh well, gives me an excuse to try out Hulu on my PS3.
Spark
I give it a season.
Malikon
Hulu doesn't work on the ps3, at least it didn't for me last night when I tried. It acted like it would start, then said that it didn't recognize the platform.

I missed the first V episode last night, but I'm eager to see it on hulu this saturday.

I agree, I enjoyed it but there were some moments that could have been reworked or reordered to give a better flow to the show.

One thing I hope we get is to see some good reasoning behind the V's decision to come to earth. That was one thing that always seemed a little off on the old miniseries. If they just wanted water, did they not notice Europa on the way here? If they came to eat humans, then that's pretty dumb. I've always thought the idea of an intelligent alien race packing into ships and expending all that energy to get to earth and then go to all the trouble of infiltrating us and/or conquering us just so they could eat some sweet sweet human flesh is incredibly lame. Could we really taste that much better than any other animal in the universe?

Well of course, YOU are JustSix, but that certainly can't be said of everyone on earth. Of the 26 or 27 people I've devoured, I only really enjoyed it with maybe 5 of them.

I didn't watch and therefore didn't read the posts in this thread but hey now, why post a huge spoiler in the thread title for the young folks that don't know any better? Seriously, not everyone knows the story of V.

Also I want everyone to do a little exercise. Ya see I'm watching the first 8 minutes on Hulu as that's all I got right now. icon-screamer.gif I want you guys to go and check it out. When we get a shot of the church with wheelchair Jack sitting in front of it I want you to ask yourselves a question... How did he get his chair on those stairs and why?

I was impressed. I haven't seen the original show since I was a little kid about 25 years ago, so I remember little to nothing about it. So...is this a continuation of the original story, or a completely different retelling (reboot)?

It's not really a very closely guarded secret. Internet adds have shown Anna's face with the old "eye morphs into lizard eye" thing, and even when its revealed to the characters in the show, its not really done in a "big reveal" sort of way for the viewer. I didn't mean to spoil anyone, I just kind of figured it wasn't really a spoiler.

a reboot. Sticks pretty close to the original, though.

I know that they're in contact with Jane Badler about a possible guest spot/recurring role and Marc Singer, Faye Grant, and Robert Englund are interested in roles as well.

I can't wait to see what parts they might play if the series does well. I'd love to see Jane come back as a rival to Anna much like Lydia was to Diana...even is she is a good 20 years older. She really needs to play a Visitor.

-SS (I also wouldn't mind seeing Michael Ironside or Phillip Ashmore come back but I've seen no mention of them even wanting to.)

Jane was awesome in the original series and I liked what I saw last night. I'll keep watching.

Sadly, this. Some of the acting hurt to watch. I think I've been spoiled by Breaking Bad and Mad Men. The scene with the wedding ring.. ugh.

Anywho, I'll tune in next week I guess.

Seriously?

Hulu is an evil alien plot to take over the world by reducing your brains to delicious pudding.

Thank Primus for small favors.

I got to see a grand total of 15 seconds of the pilot before the ABC station that was carrying it suddenly went into an acne product infomercial. Our second ABC affiliate was busy airing a "Let's Talk About the Packers Yet Again" program. So no V for me that night. icon-wildride.gif

Yeah, I wasn't too happy. Guess I'll just have to wait a little longer.

And if they do get Jane Badler or Robert Englund back for even one episode, I'd die a happy nerd. Somebody please make this happen!

I remember when Robert Englund was on MAd TV one time and the ongoing joke was "Hey! You're that guy from V!" instead of the obvious recognition.

Uh, yeah they are. Freddy is far more memorable than his role in a 25 year old mini series.
Greengoblin
Suprisingly good remake, now this is a great kickass remake of an 80's cult TV Show like 2002's He-Man and 2003's Battlestar Galactica.
Tornadron
If they really wanted to exterminate every man woman and child why not get on with it already? the visitors seem to know humans, they have a grasp of concepts that may extend to biological warfare. It's clear they need humans around for a while.
Vestras
Nearly 30 years of sci-fi reading and shows has left me a little jadded towards this show to be honest. I've always been periferally aware of the original V, but never enough to really watch it. Seeing this pilot, it wasn't bad in terms of production, but the plot is so bog-standard ancient, I just find it kinda meh. the cast was fine, the pace was poor, but it works I guess.

I agree with what someone else said, they better have a better explanation for why the Visitors are here. Any race with the technology level they display should EASILY be able to produce water. I mean come on, 2 parts hydrogen, 1 part Oxygen, not exactly difficult elements to aquire, and a little mixing and sci-tech, viola, Water. And yea, eating humans, not good enough reason either. I have hopes though that they will give us something better.

One thing that did bug me a bit more though from previews that was fixed thankfully is the V's outfits. I miss the days when aliens could you know, dress as aliens, where as Doctor Who and V among others have them all wearing (albeit drab) cloths you would find on earth. But the explanation that they have been here for decades gives them time to either direct our fashion sense to theirs, or for them to craft an appearance more familiar to us than red and silver jump suits heh.
Esser-Z
At least they're not deathly allergic to water yet still invading Earth!

Sure. They could introduce a fictional MacGuffin as an ulterior method for choosing Earth. That'd be much better. icon-primal.gif
I'm quite happy with "we need water...and food" as a motive.

Season 2 of V: The Series was actually going to do this at one point. In addition to water and food, the Leader was also looking for "The Syllabus of the Ancients".

The Earth-type clothing is an interesting touch. It definitely adds a psychological angle since they don't just look like us...they dress like us too!
However, I still hold out hopes that the familiar red uniform (or something similar) will appear later worn by their military forces. Otherwise, it loses the "alien Nazi" flavor of the original.

I am not looking for a McGuffin, just something that would make sense beyond lip service to pacify the humans. You know, they need slaves, or earth is strategic/sacred to them, you know, something.

On Earth right now, we're turning food into fuel - maybe they need us for gas.

But still, if you want to let it slide, make them a colony type ship that does need water and food and why go to the trouble of mining a frozen ice-world when there's lovely liquid water, and yummy soylent green a few million miles closer in?

I don't know, his face is still pretty familiar even under the Freddy makeup. I'd wager the average person might not place him immediately, but would still recognize him more from Nightmare (or actually a handful of other parts) than from V.
Zodberg
I watched the first episode. I guess I'll follow it now. BUT they kinda spent a bit too long on eye-candy that doesn't impress me after Star Trek. On the other hand, I feel that it made sense to focus on it to show how astonished the characters are.

This show needs a lot more color.

Makes ya wonder why they don't draw that connection more in fiction.

There's a wonderful bit of fridge brilliance (IMO) in "Cursed". After they're bitten, the brother is in the kitchen and he's chowing down on copious amounts of sliced ham, all the while putting more and more salt on it. At first it just comes across as a standard "turning into werewolf, heightened craving for meat, yeah yeah...".

It didn't strike me till MUCH later that, "HA! That's what people are supposed to taste like! He's subconsciously craving human flesh!".

Makes the scene much more subtle and awesome.
