Ok so I got the l4d 2 demo today, seems we can only get it by getting a code and redeeming it for the demo (the code itself came from my friend who is a manager at game and shall remain nameless). but I figured I'd let people know what I'd found so far in the game

Well you get 2 stages of the parish level. It's a lot of fun but it's still left for dead.

There are a hell of a lot more guns now. In the demo alone I've had:

Regular pistol
Magnum
Guitar
Night stick
Frying pan (yes it really is awesome)
Shotgun
Auto shoty
M16
Silenced uzi
Normal Sniper rifle
Bigger Sniper rifle
Grenade launcher
Molatovs
Pipe bomb

It really is a lot more combat orientated and there are a hell of a lot more zombies this time.

Also of note, as well as pills and med kits, we now have adrenaline (which takes the pills slot and allows you to move faster and swing more without recharge) and the 'padels' which allow you to bring dead players back to life. Though what that ultimately means I'm unsure of yet because non of my party have died.

The new infected are awesome, the jockey is by far the funniest, steering your players into random places. There's 2 versions of the boomer now, regular and a smaller female version. The spitter is a pain in the ass and can easily seperate your team.
However the charger is a disapointment, he's quick and does damage but we can take him down very very easily. Oh and the wandering witch is a pain in the ass

The game itself has some interesting menu choices: off the bat we have, versus, campaign, multiplayer campaign, survival, and a new one called scavanger - though I'm really unsure how that will play.

Overall just from the demo, it's left 4 dead...but more and better so I'm officially psyched by this

There seems to be a greater emphesis on storyline this time round, I noticed coach making comments on different things he read as we went through the level, plus there seems to be a few cut scenes alluded to in the ontroductory movie to but I'm not totally sure on that.

I will say the staged zombie fights are really harsh this time round, I had to open a door which set the burgler alarm off alerting the zombies, the only way to turn it off and get out was to race all the way around this map up the scaffolding and turn it off. We were getting picked off right left and centre.

Been playing it on Steam, and LOVING IT. On the scaffolding I usually just stand up there for what seems like 10 minutes hacking at zombies with my machete. Good times.

Get used to it dude, that seems to be the way things. Gone are the days where you'd get something cool, like that documentary abotu MGS that i got for Pre-ordering MGS3 Substance.
Now if you dont get a crappy sticker, or some randomized online contest that you'll never win anything with, you get a demo.
Which would be kinda pointless if it turns out you dont like the game from the demo.

especially when the point of a demo is to let you decide if you want to pre order/buy a game or not...

so, I agree, a really terrible pre order bonus. A demo a week early for a game you're already going to buy...

I miss the days of cool things like artbooks, calendars, posters, keychains, plushies...

Well, 79 bucks later I am the proud owner of the L4D2 pre-order. Like always, I opted to pay for it all outright. No information on any kind of bonii or rewards for pre-ordering. But at least I got it, learned my lesson well on Borderlands.

I just got done playing some online. The short of it, it's Left 4 Dead with a little more variety in weapons and zombies. It doesn't play any differently at all really, not that I expected it to. Actually, that's all I wanted, more levels, more weapons, and more zombie types. So the game delivers.

I like that the witch wanders now. Makes her more of a menace, imo. I also like the soldiers in the armored hazard suits, which you can only kill by shooting them in the back. The jockeys, the chargers, and the spitters are really cool additions. I especially like the spitters because they can really cut off your escape routes with the acidic vomit they puke on the ground. The jockeys are like a mix between a hunter and a smoker. If they jump onto your back, instead of being pinned, you stumble all around until someone knocks him off your back. The charger looks like a mini-tank with only one huge arm, and does what his name is. If he hits you with a charge, he then grabs you and keeps pummeling you into the ground until someone saves you.

The demo is set in The Parish, which is a New Orleans style city, and I like the Mardis Gras theme they've applied t o the regular theme music. The characters are pretty decent so far too, although I'm not detecting any more story than the previous game had.

Definitely looking forward to the game. It kind of reminds me of Gears of War 2, just adding accessories to what already works.

Yeah, but if you cancel a preorder, you can still get your money back for it. So it still sorta works out. Even if its not the greatest thing.

Even better, lose preorders cause the free early demo access sucked...

I'm pretty damn happy with the Sgt Johnson character I got for preordering ODST.

I'm less impressed by my GoW2 Gold Hammerburst (which was for midnight launch people only, though you didn't hvae to preorder) since it's just a regular Hammerburst except, y'know, yellowish, but I do get a lol out of how many people I've had ask me what it is and where I got it.

I think a demo for the game you've just preordered is very lame, and that the point of a demo should be to sell the game, not to reward those who've already decided to buy.

Knock it off with the "good ol'e days" crap.

I got some cool dog tags with Halo 3. I got a bracelet, a bottle opener, and a lanyard for GOW2, Tekken 6 has a laser art cell or some crap, DJ hero has a wrist band, Ghost Busters had a sound track disc, Turok had a window decal or something. Those are just completly random ones off the top of my head. Some games get real bonuses some don't. It's always been like that.

Why would I buy a game I already own?

I have TF2, I just don't play it. It came on the Compilation Disk of Half Life 2 I bought for my 360 a few months back.

It's a great disk: half life 2, Episode 1, episode 2, Portal and TF2. Totally worth the coin, and I got it used even.

Yep. Orange Box. Best deal in gaming.

Shame you have the 360 version.

If you had it for PC, you could play it with us. Also, PC TF2 > 360 TF2.

I hardly consider one good game among 5 to be a good deal.

Well, for most people, Half-Life 2 Episode 2 was worth the price alone. Throw in Portal, and they consider it more than worth it.

What? HL2 is one of the better shooters, Episode 1 is alright, Episode 2 is great again, Portal is amazing, and TF2 is great.

One okay game and four great ones.

I don't have the money for full price videogames now--blame TFs and Gundam. Only thing I'm tempted to buy anytime before Price Drop is Dragon Age. And Mass Effect 2, once its out.

Played some last late night. It was pretty neat. Definitely has the same feel as the first one. Enjoyed using some of the new L4D2 weapons. Love the new sniper riffle and the new assault riffle. New shotgun is neat, but its at the end so I didn't get a chance to see how effective it is. Not too crazy about the melee weapons since you can't carry pistols and a frying pan at the same time.

It's good fun in the original, especially in no mercy, to tag the car then run like hell for the safe room and see who loses the race.

Oh, if its anything like the original, it's incredibly fun. If it's like the original with improvements, then its massively fun.

If you can swing it, try to pick up a used copy of the original after the release date for the sequel. People will, quite stupidly, be dropping the original for the new game like a uranium flavored pizza pocket. Since valve has promised continued support for the first, it'll be a good investment, even used.

I played the Demo for the first one. One of the first rules they give you is "Don't set off car alarms"

I like the combat shotgun (I think that's what it was called). And the guitar is awesome.
I'm not convinced enough to buy it though, I didn't rreally play the first as much as I thought I would. Maybe a xmas prezzie.

The main point of the demo was to give preorder-ers early access to the game. The demo is available everyone now, so I don't see what the issue is. And the demo is not the only preorder incentive, you also get an exclusive bat and and an exclusive hat for Team Fortress 2 (well with the PC versions anyway).
