Yeah this got mentioned on my DS thread; course it is deserving of its own thread. Maybe I'll get one in 3 years heh...

I still think that I will stick with my Onyx DS Lite. Works well for me.

Since they made it bigger, did they put the GBA slot back in?

We get this, then a second upgraded DSi is supposedly coming. That one is supposed to be using the Tegra processor that's used in the Zune HD.

Well, no. Because that'd make the DS less of a play thing with cameras and image editing and text chatting, and more of a
video game console, and Nintendo can't have that!!

In three years, you'll be behind by at least five more iterations of the DS.

thats fine. I'm behind by three right now. I tend to skip most versions of Big N's handhelds. I had the orginal 80's peagreen scren Gameboy till the color version came out. Kept that till My Uncle gave me an Advance Sp he never played. Now i figure Its time for DS.

hmm well almost tempted but meh most of the current DS titles I've played recently are little more than fancy flash games.
I want to know why the big N hasn't bothered with an analog stick yet. I know they have a touch scree that can fake the same imput (mario 64 DS port) but for frak sakes would it kill 'em to add an analog stick?
oh well the big N will make a jive ton of cash off another slight upgrade to the same POS they've been selling for years meh

Game Boy is done. If anything, maybe you'll get a Game Man some day.

Not worth purchasing unless must have exclusives come out on it. The only games I am interested in getting are Pokemon Heat Gold and Zelda: Spirit Tracks and both are DS games.

As a big fan of Nintendo, I never thought they'd release 2 devices in a row (assuming nothing comes out prior to this) that I have zero interest in buying, and I consider to have reduced useful functionality in favour of things I couldn't care less about. I want the damn GBA slot back, in addition to GB and GBC functionality... what's the GB/GBC processor go for these days, 10 cents? A bigger screen is allright, but on its own it isn't enough... I don't want a camera, and I want two cameras even less.
Nintendo is making a massive mistake with this one. The DS and DS Lite were great systems, and worthy successors to the Game Boy line. The DSi and this new thing, whatever it's called, will accomplish nothing but tarnishing Nintendo's reputation. Releasing 4 iterations of what's basically exact same hardware (alhtough with subtractions to the 2 later models making them inferior) will be seen by the vast majority as nothing more than desperate attempts to cash in. The Game Boy Micro was only the 3rd version of the GBA, yet it sold relatively poorly compared to its predecessors; probably because nobody could figure out what it was for. I'd have hoped Nintendo would learn from that, as I have no idea what purpose this lateset device is supposed to serve. It adds nothing notable to what the DSi offers, and that already offered nothing over the DS Lite.
Instead of these ridiculous remakes of the DS Lite (the apex of the NDS lifecycle), Nintendo should've resurrected the Game Boy line and marketed it as a retro/budget handheld. With a single DS-quality backlit screen, GB and GBC games would never have looked better; and it would've at least made up for the DSi's lack of GBA support.

Except despite what most people think, the DSi hardware -is- supiorer to DS hardware and can run more code. This has been problem many times in the -scenes- where people trying to get access to the DSi mode instead of just DS mode.

this new DSi sorta feels like the GBA Micro.. did ANYONE buy that thing. I thought it was rather stupid of N do bring that thing out.
They should stop rehashing the DS and concentrate their efforts into developing the next hand held. Something that would rival say, the PSP, in the graphics department.
Never gonna happen, I know.
VGM out...

My brother bought three at the retail price cus he loved the damned thing... to death it seems. It was great for him, since it just fit in his pocket, he could play for five minutes, and the battery life meant he almost never had to charge it.
'Cept he kept leaving it in his pants, so he kept having to buy more when they didn't survive the trip through the washing machine.

A DS for people with fat hands? I'm in. If they can pry my Zelda edition from my fat hands.

Those giant screens are tempting... What I really want though is a next gen DS, not just a hardware refresh. :/

As long as standard DS hardware is selling, they won't be too quick to release a true successor.
The DSi did quadruple the ram and double the processor speed, though, and it looks as if DSi enhanced titles will be coming out soon(actually, one is already out, but it's not a game). Granted, other than the clockspeed boost, they didn't really tweak the gfx hardware at all, so there's still that 2048 polygon limit and no hardware texture filtering.

Slightly, but that slight superiority has been used for very little so far. And no device in the homebrew scene has yet been able to access DSi mode (probably because there's so little software to analyze that makes use of the DSi-exclusive hardware). And the DSi still has a restrictive amount of RAM, which will limit GBA emulation for the homebrew developers; which is the one useful feature people have always wanted in DS homebrew.

It wasn't very successful compared to the previous GBA models, no. However I did think the 20th Anniversary "Famicom" Limited Edition was the nicest-looking GBA model, from a purely aesthetic standpoint; and I did buy one for that reason when they went on sale for around $50 at Zellers a few years ago.
