HeyMickey
Never heard of this game before this Monday, but the reviews made it look fun so I picked it up.

OH. MY. GOD. This game is the greatest thing ever. Remember Puzzle Quest? How it blended puzzle games with RPGs? Borderlands is kind of like that. Take the wasteland of Fallout 3, add in the run, gun, and shield mechanics of Halo, and the character classes, talent trees, leveling, loot dropping, and quest structure of World of Warcraft. It all comes together seamlessly under some incredibly beautiful graphics. The weapons are awesome as well. I'm only a few hours in and I've already found a pistol that sets things on fire and some kind of weird shotgun that shoots out glowing blue superballs.

Best of all? Aside from the standard deathmatchy multiplayer, the game features 4 player online co op! Adding more players to your party makes the enemies tougher, but they'll drop much better loot as a reward. On top of that, the game also features 2 player splitscreen coop, something that seems to just about be extinct in modern games.

The game is incredible. Go out and get it and join me out there!

No money, waiting for Win 7 and Left 4 Dead 2. I might get this for Christmas! This or Dragon Age.

huh... i have been curious about this game.

at first it looked like a fallout 3 knockoff, but ive heard good things about it.. maybe ill try it out some day.

I want this so bad. icon-screamer.gif

I WANTS it... but all the local places are sold out. I'm gonna do some quick net searches again, and see if I can't find some place close to get it after work.
Rhinox
Ill get it next month. Just too many irons in the fire this month.
Hg Dragon
Want. Want badly. I may have to sneak out this weekend and buy it. That's if I can finish Batman: Arkham Asylum before then.
The Predaking
I'll be getting it for Christmas unless I find it for sale on Black Friday.

i only wana know 3 things

1) playing this via Steam can i talk to others using my mic ect
2)whats the pc specs for this thing
3) is there an actual ending since this is a rpg/fps combo? i mean do i just complete a campaign with others like what you do in L4D
Rhinox
Or we could, you know, save time and just suggest you not bother with the game, TGOS. icon-ironhide.gif

just a suggestion. icon-fire.gif

You have to choose? Why not do both?

1. If the game supports voice chat, sure?
2. The Steam page lists specs for all games.
3. It's single-player and "join or leave at anytime co-op." You also have PvP. There is a story to complete, but the game is completely open-ended, much like Fallout or the GTA games from what I've read.

I loved Arkham Asylum, but I blasted through it in a week. I might have been better off just renting it. Borderlands looks like it will last much, much longer.
SilverFirePrime
I want this so bad, it isn't even funny. Problem is I need some Christmas list material. Secondly, I've still yet to finish Brutal Legend, Tales of Vesperia, and Sacred 2. The latter two I'm nowhere NEAR done with yet.

And I would go with Borderlands, simply because it has more replay value. Arkham Asylum seems to be a solid rental or a good buy when the game hits greatest hits level.
son of unicron
well, assuming i get some birthday money i cold probably get away with buying 1 game. ive wanted the batman game for a while... but now this borderlands game looks like fun too. im poor, so i just cant buy games whenever i want.. its sort of an only at birthday or chistmas sort of event.

choices choices..

still, thats a good point about the longevity of the game. i had recently gotten brutal legend from my wife as an early gift, and while i loved the game.. ive done just about everything it has to offer in less then a week... and i dont plan on playing the online mode.. so..

maybe renting batman isnt such a bad idea. :}
wonko the sane?
Cus there ain't no rest for the wicked...

I GOTS IT!

I hit up the last large mall in the area. Forth store, last one that sells games, it was the last one on the shelf. I grabbed it so fast I damn near brought the display down, and I needed to check to make sure it wasn't some wonderful mirage.

In what regard?
Knight in Rusty Armor
friend of mine who plays it says the platform is very much the same.
might not be the same camera angle but the gameplay is mostly the same.

Curious to see if people agree

The final boss is the most disappointing and easy thing ever, what is with great games that just die at the end.

Spent some time watching a friend play it. It's a shooter, FPS, nothing like diablo in that regard.

How extensive are the RPG aspects? I would really like to do some online co-op FPS action, and this sounds like an ideal game to pop in and out of. I'd play Halo 3 campaign regular if it had matchmaking. I guess the question I'm asking is the game dialogue intensive and is there a lot of stat maintenance?

Havent played online with anyone yet, but I played splitscreen coop last night with my BF. Splitscreen works like a dream - no lag or drop in visuals that I could tell. There really isnt much going on dialog wise; it's all text in your quest logs. The Inventory management in this game is simple, but youre always getting new stuff so you end up swapping stuff out a lot. Whats awesome is that I can go to browse my guns and medikits and such, but the other player can just keep on playing as normal without being forced to sit there until I'm done. The only thing I've seen that interrupts what you're doing is if they other player exits map to a new area. Then everyone gets ported to the entrance after a 3 second warning.

You gain experience in the world, experience on the different types of weapons, skill points to give you added traits. All of it (except skill point distribution) is done in real time. No pausing to calculate experiences from wins, no prompting on which weapon you can and can't use (Tip: You can use them all, even when your profiency isn't in that particular gun.) even swapping weapons can be done in the thick of it.

Think Halo right till the fighting stops, then it become fallout 3.

Crap. I went to my local Gamestop and they were sold out. Target didn't have it either. I'll have to hunt for it elsewhere during the week.

Best Buy has it for $53 on the website, and its even in their B2G1 sale.

Oh definitely! I enjoy the hell out of single player, but playing coop does really add something special to the game.

sweet...then ill be picking that bad jammy up in like 20mins =]...and possibly Quake 4 since gamestops website lists it as being 6.99 used...i think i wanna play that just cause ive been jonseing for some quake 2...heh
HeyMickey
Out of curiosity, why do you hate online multiplayer? Is it because of playing with jerks, or are you just a loner type? Cause if its the former, play with us people on the allspark! I've never had a bad time playing with anyone from here. icon-hotrod.gif

GAH! BONEHEAD!
Arsenal
Level 16 Siren here, currently at Sledge's hideout getting the jive kicked out of me.

Found a hugging SWEET purple shield though, has like 160 capacity and fast recharged, its way stronger than anything that's available.

GT is AchyHippo if anyone wants to co-op, feel free to add me.

My Soldier is 22, but I'd be more than happy to help out any time! Sledge is kind of a pain in the ass.

I just beat him earlier. The worst part was the trek out of the hideout because the enemies I cleared out respawned, one time even re-appearing right in front of me. That's one part of the game that kind of irks me so far, you can make it through an area by the skin of your teeth, and then on your way out to cash in you don't have the supplies and health to survive.

I played a Hunter to level 12, and then started to wonder about the other classes. I played some online with the Brick and the Soldier. I like the two of them, and it's pretty cool how they all do feel differently even before applying skill points.

It's a very interesting game. It's obvious it's a FPS Diablo, and now that I've played it, I'm surprised no one else came up with this idea before. The online's a little confusing if you're playing with people who won't stick together.

Part of it is me being too cheap to pay for Gold the other part is that aside from a few Quake games in '97, ive never honestly enjoyed it...i guess i just perefer games to be a single player experience...but if i did have gold im pretty sure id attempt a few plays with you guys.

My soldiers at level 13...i think i havent leveled up enough because i enjoy killing with the vehicle Rocket Launcher instead of on foot hehe

Well iam level 16 and my little brother has sold most of my good weapons adn shields......so pissed at that.

He sold it for money cause he burnt through the 25k i had by playing co-op with our cousin and dying 52 billion times.
I really need to disable that auto log-on.

Iam actually contemplating starting over, iam only at sledge's fortress but damn....that sucks.

That's not cool at all. It's definitely time to disable autologin.

The low level stuff I'm finding now is in the 14-16 range; it'd be no problem at all for me to grind some gear for you to use or sell if you want to keep using that character.
wonko the sane?
Level 20 hunter, and I just took out sledge. Wasn't much of a fight, since I was in multiplay at the time, and my brothers 25 soldier and his corrosive rocket launcher made sledge eat acid.
Prime 2.0
20 or 21 soilder now, regained most of my former glory thanks to my brother. Thats the good thing about him, when he screws up he tends to find a way to repay me.

Just made it to New Haven, and checked on TK, and killed Skagzilla and turned on the power. Got some kick ass loot along the way too.

that good to hear, it would suck to have to start over.

im hoping to get this game here in a week or so .
Raziel
I have a level 35 soldier. I beat the game today, didn't really take that long surprisingly. My only real gripe is with some of the glitches. I've killed over 200 enemies with corrosives, no achievement. I've gotten 12 days of Pandora completed, no achievement. I've also had to quit out after getting stuck a few times in between rocks. I also can't stand that you don't have a box or locker or something to store items in. Anyway, if anyone wants to run around just send me a message.
Prime 2.0
I actually like the fact that theres no locker, i tend ot be a hoarder when it comes to RPGs if i have some way of holding on to something i'll keep crap for no real apparent reason.
FOr example Fallout 3, the first weapons and armor i had i still currently have in my locker, along with a metric ton of other weapons and armor that i either believe will be come important in the future or that i just keep for sentimental value really.

Meanwhile in Borderlands, its take what you need and sell the rest, which i like. IF worse comes to worse and theres a gun i had that i really want i can just re-buy it.
Rhinox
Just got it today. It's fun, though I'm not in love with the sight controls. I prefer having the crosshairs on the screen, ala Fallout 3.

also, it's been way too long since I've played an FPS. Massive headache time.
Greengoblin

2009 is one hell of a year for video games and this is one of the best i've ever played.

Good God, Bonehead is a pain in the ass.

Yeah, he is. Go do a few more quests, randomly kill jive, see if you can find some better weapons. It's about the only way to deal with a character who's too high a level for you to fight evenly.

Also, keep in mind he will respawn perpetually, along with that well selling machine gun of his, and he continue to send unshielded, low level bungholes to harry the town when you are there.

I like to think of it as "dinner AND a show."
Monocle
Best way I found to handle Bonehead was to use a rocket launcher, or grenade that can work too, to knock his shield off and then I rushed in with Bezerk and buldgeoned him to death with my fists. That only works well if you can trap him ip a corner, as he really loves to run away.
HeyMickey
I've found that a good way to handle tough bosses is to bring the underlings down to very low health but not kill them. This way, when the boss kills you, you can quickly cap an underling off for a second wind. I'm fairly certain that you spawn with a full special ability meter, but I might be wrong about that.
