I'm not 100% sure yet, but as much as I wouldn't mind having the transforming Bumblebee case, the extra scenes on the Wal-Mart disc might win out.

Can anyone definitively say what's in the "IMAX scenes" that wasn't in the movie? I saw the movie on regular screen, then on IMAX, and I didn't notice anything added. People talk about an extra split second of Sam agonizing over his wrist, and maybe a quick cut or two of the forest, but aside from a few action scenes being flimed in IMAX and therefore at full resolution there, was there any actual new material?
Because I still don't even have blu-ray, and so intend to buy a DVD. I really want the Bumblebee case to match my Optimus case from last time around, and unless there's significant new footage, 'Bee is what I'm taking home tomorrow!
(I'm really glad we are getting that case, I remember thinking it was just going to end up as a Japanese exclusive or something...)

UK-exclusive; HMV revealed their plans before Target did.
I'm going for cheap on this one. I was going to get it at Target, since it's apparently the cheapest there, but I figure for the added 86 cents I may as well try the IMAX scenes at Walmart.

Hm, I'll most likely get the Wal-Mart version with the IMAX scenes.
One question though; does anyone know if that one will have the same features as the regular 2-disc special edition? Such as commentary, interviews, etc.

Oct 19 2009, 05:44 PM
Are the 2-disc special editions at Target and WalMart the same thing? Also, why would the 2-disc IMAX be $5 cheaper than the other 2-disc editions? what's added/missing?
what ever happened to "everyone carries the same releases" onm release day phenomenon?

It should. I'm sure Wal-Mart will have their usual bare bones version (which tends to come with extras - I don't think it does this time), the 2 Disc with IMAX scenes, and the Blu-Ray similar to the 2 disc.
Wal-Mart has the bad habit of having their incentive stuff with the regular DVD and not the 2 disc, which is really silly in my opinion.

Definitely going to chase down the Wal-Mart IMAX version. I just hope I can find it - between jury duty and assorted other factors, I might have a hard time getting out there.
Speaking of, will the two-disc IMAX version for DVD have a different cover from the regular two-disc set like the Blu-Ray edition?

The Listing for the two disc "Special edition" has the "Wal-Mart Exclusive Big Screen Edition" tag, but I'm skeptical until I see it; the 2007 DVD release with the motion comic exclusive was bundled with the cheap 1disc DVD, not the 2 disc, and they do the same thing with all the DC animated movies; the exculsive stuff comes with the cheap 1 disc copy.
I get the impression that the second disc on the $15 "Big screen version!" is the one with the IMAX scenes; So if you want IMAX
and special features, they gank you into paying for both...unless the $20 listing is accurate, in which case you'd think it'd be a 3 disc version (1 disc for normal film, 1 disc for IMAX, 1 disc for the special features).

Yeah, my biggest question is what does the Wal-Mart IMAX exclusive 2-disc exactly have? Because it doesn't say.
I was going to get that, but, the IMAX wasn't all that special. Leaning towards Target now...though, I'm not exactly a big fan of the BB thing, it's better than actually missing out on content.

I could've sworn that the IMAX version has Ze Doktor getting shot off of Sam in the big factory rescue scene. But I only saw that version once, so I'm getting a bit fuzzy with it.

Whatever the IMAX scenes are, they aren't that special.
I saw it in regular theater on Wednesday, then Saturday at IMAX.
And, the only differences I took note of is the screen seemingly randomly shrinking and growing during the fight scene in the forest. Nothing made me point and say "That's different!" It would only be minor, extended things with little to no dialog.

Amazon Jp will ship DVDs/Blu-rays overseas, including special box sets like these (but not toys that aren't part of a DVD/Blu-ray set). They also have English ordering, but unlike Amazon UK, etc. your normal Amazon account won't work so you'll have to make a one with Amazon Jp.

I've got a question about the IMAX edition though. How will it work on a normal TV? Is it just an extended cut or did they do something funky with the visuals? And if they did do you need some kinda fancy HD TV?

I'd always wondered if it would actually be possible to take a road trip from the US to Japan and use ferries from Alaska to Russia and then from Russia to Japan, but it doesn't look like there are any paved roads in the relevant parts of Alaska and Siberia, and no regular ferries between Alaska and Russia.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward waiting a day or two, hearing what people say about the various releases, and seeing if it's worth passing up the transforming case for whatever extra footage is on the Wal-Mart version.

Nothing. It's a Transformers movie on DVD/Blu-ray that you can watch in your very own home whenever you want. Crap movie or no, that's pretty awesome. You can watch the forest scene on a loop, if you want.

It is the 2-disc special edition. Those very words are across the top of the front of the packaging.
I just picked up the Bumblebee case this morning. I woke up early to be sure to get it, and I'm glad I did. Last time, when I went, there was only 1 Optimus left after I got mine, and I never saw them again at our local Target. Today, after I got my BB, there's only 2 left...my guess is that when they're gone, they'll stay gone. I haven't opened it yet, but from the look of things, it's actually pretty detailed in the paint - and the doors look to have transparent windows even! I'll have to look more carefully when I open it, but that'd be a really nice touch!

Definitely more interested in having the best version of the movie than in a gimmicky case or pack-in. So Wal-Mart Blu-Ray it is. My only fear is that it won't sync up with the Rifftrax.
Not in a big hurry. Probably buy it this weekend.

Cool, think I'll head into Target before my shift today, and get the Bumblebee case. If the Imax scenes aren't great anyway, I think I'd rather have a matching case to go with my movie 1 Optimus.

I'll ask this again.
Anyone know how the IMAX stuff works? like do they explode the screen or what? I don't have an HDTV or anything and I want to know if it'll work.
Also I want to know if the extra stuff is worth the distraction.

yes, the Walmart versions include the IMAX footage in the movie itself.
LordScimitar

I don't think that's what he's asking.
What he's asking is do the special 2-disc editions also contain the I-Max scenes?
Not, "Do the IMax versions show the scenes included in the movie or are they just an extra in one of the menus?"

Went to Target. Got the 2-disc Bumblebee thing. Pretty cool.
WARNING: IT DOESN'T STAND. Yeah, it's supposed to, and it has feet too, but it just doesn't stand. The feet aren't nearly good enough to actually stand.
PLUS, I heard Wal-Mart has ALL their TF2 DVDs (not sure about Blu-Ray) for $15. Pricing error, or intentional? Don't know. So, Target with the BB case is $12 extra. ...Not really worth it, but I was already in line with my decision made.
So, it's up to you. The BB thing is pretty cool, but yeah, doesn't stand too well.

I don't feel so bad now. The mistake may've been caught and rectified.
I heavily considered the Wal-Mart I-Max one, but I saw it in both regular and I-Max, and honestly I could barely tell the difference. The only time I really noticed a difference is when the screen was suddenly shrinking and expanding.
I haven't got both, nor have I had time to watch either, but I think I would recommend the 2-disc special edition (not the Imax edition) from Wal-Mart OR the 2-disc special edition from Target with Bumblebee case (if you like that).
But, as I said, it don't stand up. I managed to do it by flipping down his dvd case and resting it lightly on something behind him and he stands up. But, completely by itself? I don't see anyone making that happen unless I just have VERY bad feet.

Yeah for those who still haven't caught this, the Walmart 2-disc Big Screen edition is the same thing as the normal 2-Disc edition except it includes the Imax scenes put into the movie. I've been waiting for someone to clearly explain this to me and as of yet it hadn't been. I just looked at the special features disc from the Walmart 2-disc version and it has all of the stuff that Amazon lists as special features from the normal 2-disc version.
