So, how many pages is the book?

I got Rtas at the local comic book shop. Gamestop (EB Games) In Canada doesn't sell many toys.

The book is just over 350 pages and is HUGE, wider than a typical Graphic Novel. Nice balance of pics and text, though I've seen some of the pics before, the text seems all-new. The information is a combination of stuff summarized from the games, comics, novels, etc., and some new information I've never seen before.

It's a DK book right? The same people that do the Marvel, DC, Star Wars and transformer guides. They do nice work for th emost part. The TF guide was a little weak, but to be fair, Transformers is quite a bit less cohesive than Batman or Spiderman.

I think the difference between the TF book and the Halo book is that with TF, you've got 20-ish years of widely varied TV series, comic books, toylines, toy bios, merchandise, and other stuff, and you have to devote a simple overview to all those various conflicting facets.

Halo is, to date, five games, five novels, two graphic novels, some commercials, and some promo websites, and some toys solidly based on the above. Summarizing that is simpler and allows for the addition of more new info.

(Though I wonder how long until they update it to include the new anthology novel, the Helljumpers comics, the Blood Line comics, the anime, and more on the ODST characters.)

I'm suprised that they didn't wait for all that to come out before making the book.

they're saving that for Vol. 2., where you have to re-buy it to get the latest info.

If they waited, then things would never get done. Because then something new would be announced, and they'd have to wait for that to come out, etc.

Ravage X-9: Rtas is the character in my avatar. He's part of the new Wave Six of halo toys. There's also the Rookie from ODST, a new Brute, Flood Pure Form, the Halo Wars Red Team leader and some different coloured Spartans and a new Assault Elite (though some of them are exclusives).

As for waiting....343 Industries has planned new Halo stuff for at least the next six years. So if they waited, they'd probably never publish anything, or at least not until 2015. It's like expecting Lucasfilm to not publish any of its Star Wars encyclopedias because more Star Wars stuff is coming out.

If Halo keeps going strong, there will be a new edition of the encyclopedia sooner or later. (Though I hope they wait a few years so that the new book is really new, and not just the old book with 4 or 5 added pages.)

McFarlane? It'd have to be, to be up to wave six without me knowing about it... so these are more small figures then.

Yep, they're about the size of a Transformer Deluxe, not as small as a GI Joe or Robot Hero.

I've never bought anything else from McFarlane before, but these look g*fantastic*, and though they're a little delicate, they're very poseable and I'm quite happy with them.

From what I saw, the quality on the Rookie seems kinda bad. Doesn't help that he's in the wrong colors. Part of the reason why I didn't buy him. Most of my figures have been fine though.

I got an ODST figure free from TRU when I picked up the game. He was broken in three places before I even got him out of the blister. Kinda dissuaded me from wanting to buy any figures in the line.

Those were early releases though. Hopefully the production batch will have a bit better quality.

Yeah, that group was extremly rushed. I haven't had any problems with any of the spartans though.

the RvsB character's i've picked up are all great.

Yeah, word to the wise stay away from the Elites earlier than wave 4, the earlier ones didnt have hinges in their hands and you'll probably break the fingers trying to get a weapon in his hands.

Anyways, iam ordering the whole wave from BBTs thursday, alogn with the gears new wave.
Now ive just got to find a place that still has the mongooses in stock.

Need...Orange..Spartan V

The only one I had trouble with was the Blue Elite, his fingers came out when I tried to put the gun in his hand, fortunately I could snap them back in again and you can't tell when he's posed.

They learned from this. All the Elites since have hinged fingers so you can get weapons in and out of the hands easier.

I still don't think these toys would stand up to heavy play from kids, but to pose them on my shelves, they're fine.

Uh, you might want to be careful with the Rookie.
Also, the necks on the mongoose spartans are messed up, just an FYI.

To anyone getting previous waves, the wave 3 Brute Chieftan, the gold one has week wrists and will snap in a heart beat, especially if you are not careful trying to put that Rocket launcher in his hands.

Thank Rao there is already a thread on this. So people have got it already that's good. I have one question, what is the timeline section like? Chapters does not have any copies in yet and it's torturious waiting for them to get copies in. I hate their shipping delays! I've been looking forward to this since it was announced a few months ago.

Huh, my Cheiften's wrists are perfectly fine.

It is like awesome when you consider that the Human and Covenant sections really expand on the pointers.

It gives a lot of human "history" predating Human-Covenant first contact. There is also stuff on Forerunners that I've only skimmed so far.

It also includes lots of info from the games, books and comics.

And it drops a hint about the future, namely thatHIGHLIGHT to view:
no sooner is the Human-Covenant war ended than there are going to be problems with rebels again because the USNC has done nothing to address those issues.

I got two of them and both of their wrists are white just before the little ball joint thingy, and ready to snap. The first ones actually popped off, the second's hanging in there but i dont even want ot put him in another pose.

Ok I'm getting this book maybe tomorrow. Saw a Chapters in Vancouver has it. Thanks Stormwave for the description.

Loving the Mongoose so far!

I got the book on Saturday evening and I gotta say I'm a tiny bit disappointed in the lay out of the book...but what's covered is awesome! The profiles and entries are really great as well. This is maybe one of my all time favorite books published by DK. They do an awesome job with their products most of the time.

lil bro got the mongoose/crappy orange Mark V spartan (which we named bucket hehehe....now he is awesome), the red vs blue set (comes with a blue spartan and red elite)....i think that is all

i already had the red hayabusa (which i broke the tip off the battle rifle 10 minutes after i got home.....i got bad luck with these damn things) and he had the red spartan set with the Eva, Scout, Cob, and ODST armors and Sgt. Johnson

i repeat, the orange mark v spartan SUCKS.....it has crappy posability and then the head looks like a brute smashed his head down so it is like he has no neck....only thing that redeemed it is that i named it bucket and gave it the personality of an idiot

I picked up another grunt today as well as a flood pure form when I stopped at Gamestop. I think my Halo shelf might need to be reorganized now that I've got so many.

Is the Halo Wars spartan an exclusive or something? I haven't been able to find him anywhere.

The only Halo Wars figs i heard about were the 3 pack figurines, that and the Halo Wars weapn pack from wave 5.

Which IIRC ironically contained smgs which would have still been in prototype stages dduring halo wars

As far as I know, he's been pushed back to a later wave. Mcfarlane just didn't have time to change the cardbacks.

I'm excited that they are keeping the line going into 2010. I severely require Elites in Commando and Ascetic armour. THIS I COMMAND.

Brutes will finally have a leader and i'll have another human to chill out with the spartans.

Iam not saying yes on teh Flight Elite yet, but the colors are so funky (in a good way) that i will probably change my opinion once i see it in person.

I do like that the elites have a secondary color, unlike the spartans.

No one else here is excited to get Forge? His role in the game was frakking awesome!

Overall, that wave looks pretty neat.

He looks cool, but I never played Halo Wars, so I don't really know much about his character.

I finally find a Grunt Major and it's left leg was snapped at the joint. I went through three masterchiefs with a similar problem with leg and hand joints.
