Hey all!
I'm just about done with one of my long-stalled customs projects, Brave Maximus. Please excuse the crappy photos:

You can see my nearly-complete Fort Max in the background of these shots. He is another long-delayed project that's just about done.
I still have to finish the silver accents on Brave's rifle, finish the red paint apps on the shoulders, leg mortars, and ramps, and some minor paint touch-ups. I also have to finish up his tower, and create his Master-Sword.
Comments are welcome

That looks really sharp CORVUS.
Brave has a much more interesting scheme then Fortress.

Thanks! And yes, he does. While I personally prefer Fort's more subdued scheme, Brave Max has fun colors, and is much nicer to look at.

God, I'd kill for these to be made by Hasbro. Your modifications and craft look superb, and I'd love to see a few comparison shots of your Max's with some Classics and Universe figures.
Hell yeah, Brave Max. I love those colors. I don't see you posting much of your work, but it's always great stuff when you do. Well made, good ideas. The only thing I don't like it this head. It's a bit too cutesy or something.
I see alot of Tamiya paints on your table there. What kind are they and how durable at they? Anything like factory paints?

Love your paint details and love the head you've gone with. Fantastic piece you've made there.

Thanks! I'm going to add more black around the eyes to make them look a little smaller and less cutesy, so thanks for pointing that out

I use mostly Testors Model-Master Acryl paints, but also Tamiya and Games Workshop acrylics. They are fairly durable, although not like factory paints, which are just insane. I always use Krylon Fusion or Tamiya sprays for base-coats. Krylon Fusion is some of the most durable stuff around. Before painting, its always best to wash any parts you will paint in mild soapy water or regular rubbing alcohol to remove any of the release-agent residue, and oils from your fingers. And, whenever possible, let all paints cure for a couple of days before you play with the painted figure.
And thanks to you both, Jeremy and Shattered. Glad you like it

whats the head made out of? does it transform? MORE PICTURES!

Oct 11 2009, 10:01 AM
The head is a G1 Superion head. Yes, he transforms. More pictures will be coming once he's complete

I'm still trying to figure out all the parts of the rifle. I know I've seen them all before. There is a Armada Megatron Turret, and Arcee Energon weapon that are easily identifable. But the handle, and main portion allude me.And I just know I'm gonna fell stupid when they are revealed.
^o^CORVUS^o^
Oct 13 2009, 05:50 AM
The handle was taken off Cybertron Metroplex's Spark-Drinker weapon. The body of the gun is from Energon Bulkhead's powerlinx base-weapon

that is REALLY bloody clever! the ramps are from RID Magnus and the connected part is from UNICRONS legs isnt it
the head doesnt look like G1 superions head...more detail perhaps? i mean more pics so i can see what it looks like transformed
once i get my Supreme Devastator and classics Omega Supreme done i DEFFO wana try this idea your doing
^o^CORVUS^o^
Oct 13 2009, 06:22 AM
Correct! Those are indeed RiD Magnus ramps, and the minicon-containers from inside Unicron's legs.
As for the Superion head, its mostly paint-apps, but I also lopped off the antennas on the sides and replaced them with pieces of styrene to make it more blocky, and then added the Brave-Max style "horns"

Okay, new update

Shockblast Cannon pulling double-duty as Brave's cannon, and city-mode tower.

GULP!

The Master-Sword, in its early stages. Lots more work to do on it before I apply the base coats.

G1 Countdown's Helipad will act as Brave's helipad in city-mode, and a shield in robot-mode.

New accessory group-shot.

So any plans to complete the Trio with Grand Max?

Oct 17 2009, 02:02 PM
Heh! If there ends up being a big demand for him, I may do that. Now, I do have an idea running around in my head for what amounts to a "shattered glass" version of Fort that I plan to do in the future.

Something quite similar, yes.

Very. Its extremely easy to work with when dealing with flat planes, which you see a lot of in TFs *lol*
When cutting, most thicknesses only need to be scored with a hobby knife, and can then simply be snapped off. You can join the pieces with plastic-weld type adhesives, standard testors model cement, or crazy/super-glue.
Just be sure you have a good, metal ruler, preferably with cork on the bottom to hold it steady while cutting/scoring. A T-square is also a good idea.

Okay, the Master-Sword now has its base-coats!

The sword before the application of its base-coats.

Now I'll this sucker cure for a few days, then putty up a few of the gaps and small flaws, then it'll be ready for its actual paints.
So, my original Fort max had a red-bladed sword. Should I go with the blue-blade this time around?
C16
Oct 20 2009, 10:38 PM
Yeah, the blue blade is brave's sword color.

Very awesome.

I like the idea of using Countdown's helipad.
So will he be having a base mode (that can link up with Micro bases x3)?
^o^CORVUS^o^
Oct 21 2009, 08:24 AM
Yup, he will indeed have a base-mode, and I'm leaving the front connector on Countdown's Helipad so you can still connect those Micromaster ramps.

I would so buy the hug out of that. As it is right now, I want it in a really bad way.
Brave Max remains today on my top ten list of Transformers. I just love the mold so much and the colors are much better than the previous two versions. I think you did a fantastic job capturing the look and feel of the figure out of the Metroplex mold.
As much as I'd like Hasbro to release Cybertron Metroplex in Universe as G1 Metroplex, I'd much rather them doing something ten times more awesome like this.

I own all but the Japanese exclusive bases... I would too, if I had that Brave Max... =(
Somewhere there's a solution to this compatibility issue that we're not seeing!
I think it's got something to do with the both of us migrating to Japan, but I'm not sure of it.

Both this and the two Fort Max's you've made are just amazing. If the head at least looked like that. I would have bought Megtroplex as is I didn't like him much.
One thing. I know i'm being a killer here. You considering making a little Megabolt head? Even if It dosen't Transform it would be pretty neat.

A Megabolt Megatron head? I never considered that. Hmmmmm
