What could a crab be but a Shellformer? I don't have a Rampage of my own- I'm posting this on ExVee's behalf while he sees to some vehicular troubles -and I find myself wanting one. Despite having a fair number of issues plus aging rubber treads to watch out for, that tank mode just looks really neat.

I've never really had a problem getting Rampage to stay up off the table, between one claw and the back legs. Getting it to stand with BOTH claws up is a different matter, those things are huge and heavy.

Turning the 'Thighs' of the front two legs upside down helps, so the ball joint close to the body opens downward. Still, it's a big question of balance; The arms and claws weigh more than the rest of the figure put together, I'd wager, so his COG might be way out past his teeth if you have both crabby-arms in an outstretched pose.

This is one of those figures that has a fair share of objective flaws, but his overflowing badassitude trumps it all. For example, he's got a gimpy little rifle, counterbalanced by a glorious gatling gun. He's a pain in the arse to balance because of his giant claws, but on the other hand....he has awesome giant claws!

Also, as far as the whole Transmetal "inside-out" concept, his crustacean coloring/texture in robot mode came through REALLY well. Moreso than most of the other Transmetals.
MEGATRON I
Yeah if he could stand better in beast mode I'd like him even more but as it is he is something very different and I like him very much for it. Who would've ever thought we could get an Ultra sized crab?

I've always really liked the tank mode, and the character association gets the other two modes to pass. Objectively, I don't think I'd have such bad feelings about Rampage if only the claws had been designed to somehow incorporate into the robot mode. I'm okay with the shell sitting on the back. By itself it doesn't impact the balance significantly, but the claws just kill it. And as jointed as they are, they should have been able to do something else with them.

See, here's a toy that I love on its own, but I'd really love to see someone tackle it with today's technology. Rampage would be bad-arse redone as a movie toy.

I dunno why there's such trouble with the claws. Rotate them so the painted sides face out (thumbs outward) and you can mold them down against the back of the figure enough that they'll reach the table as a third and fourth leg.

I've never really had balance issues with mine... then again, I usually pose him pretty "dynamically" with knees bent, leaning slightly forward, with one claw reach forward, and the other one arched up and slightly back as if about to strike. I just posted on here recently that I have just pulled this guy and TM2 Megs out on account of one of these IF reviews... now I can't put him down. I kinda forgot just how good some of these guys really were. Thing is, I left Depthcharge in the basement, and now I sorta want to grab him again, too. Forgot about how awesome that ShotShark is. (I always viewed it as a double-barreled shark shotgun, don't know why...) Though just thinking of how batcrap crazy his wings used to make me sorta puts a damper on my enthusiasm. Still....

Yup, he was worth getting out of Basement Limbo, too! icon-hotrod.gif
