He's not really wowing me like the majority of the Scouts do. I can't really pick out why either. It's definitely an interesting concept, but sculpt turned out kinda bland.

I'm pretty sure that's a deliberate defacing of the toy prototype, in the event it is stolen and attempted to be sold. If you want your Scattorshot to have added character, pull out your exact-o knife.

Ah, okay; I thought it was part of the "Mad Max" aesthetics of the vehicle. (As someone at Botcon described it.)

Eh, I'm already using Dune Runner as Backpack, Scattershot is still a Technobot, and he's too scrawny to be Sentinel Plow. . .
The colour and certain alt-mode details (the fenders and door-skirt) make me think of Gears. This is a far better form for him than a repaint of a Decepticon. He just needs a little red detailing on him.

He has more in common with Cybertron Scattorshot than Dune Runner does.I disagree. The color and presence of heavy weapons is the same, but Dune Runner "channels" Cyb Scattorshot (the basic) much better than ROTF Scattorshot.
The vehicle mode's similarity to Animated Sentinel Prime's has been noted, and I'm thinking of just calling ROTF Scattorshot "Sentinel" or "Sentinel Minor" and make him Ani S. Prime's Multiversal analogue.
*Is aware that a Sentinel Prime is already mentioned in ROTF*

Well nobody is thinking Scattorshot as a new form to the original Scattershot. Just the Cybertron Scattorshot.

Pretty much. Although in this case I believe it's considered derivative of "Scattor" (LOL) which they already owned.

I assume it's mostly because "Scattershot" is an existing word and thus harder to defend in court than the made-up "Scattorshot".

See what? They misspelled another word. What's the trademark status of "Scattershot"? Or "Demolisher"? You assume they don't do it the way Axaday notes isn't exactly a more compelling argument.

If someone else had "Scattershot", Hasbro couldn't just get around it by changing one letter. It'd still be "confusingly similar".
However, if Hasbro spelled it "Scattershot", another company might call their toy that and claim it's a common word and Hasbro couldn't claim it as an exclusive trademark. By spelling it "Scattorshot", they make it a made-up word and make it a lot harder for another company to question their exclusive claim of the trademark.
And for the record, the USPTO website knows of no trademark application for the spelling "Scattershot", and the only "live" application for "Demolisher" is for saw blades.

I think he's probably about as close to actually feeling like the character as they could bring themselves to make him. The movie line is all about learning to settle.

Folks:
I like it. It's a cool Mad Max truck, and the robot mode has a sort of lean and hungry look, which fits well with that. It almost looks like the bed is open, but I'm not sure about that. Would be cool if we can load it up with oil drums. "Scrounge" would have been a cool name, but he certainly can scatter a lot of shot around with those guns.
The robot mode is very lanky - if this is a Scout, the truck mode will probably be small. That's not a bad thing at all. I like little cars.
