Hey everybody. I've only been to 1 Botcon and it in 99 (I obviously had a blast). During the screening of TFTm 86' the Decepticon fans cheered for the deaths of Optimus and Ironhide, and needless to say I was shocked to my core. I was a little pissed, but then I realized wow, there must be hardcore faction of Decepticon fans out there, and I thought it was really pretty cool.

I myself, am a loyal fan of the Autobots, but just wondering, how many of you are Autobot/Decpeticon fans? And as an post-script who is your favorite character from your faction?
Jeysie
I'm pretty much a fan of the good guys in general. So, both the heroic Autobots and the heroic Shattered Glass Decepticons.

I have a few friends who are die-hard Decepticon fans, though.
Powered Convoy
Depends on the series. In early G1 it's the Decepticons (with notable exceptions like Optimus Prime). In a lot of other series, the Decepticons/Predacons are nothing but a joke, so I tend to like the heroes more in those series.

Randy
NightViper
Um, "All of the above"?

I generally like both sides about the same; I never saw the need to choose sides.
Jeysie
As for my favorite characters... *points to her user title* I really can't pick just one favorite...
Moroboshi Ataru
I'm a big fan of Optimus Prime in all his incarnations (Including the ruthless movie version), but for the most part, faction-wise, I've always been a Decepticon fan. (Probably why seeing Prime trend dark doesn't bother me. icon-fire.gif) Starscream, Soundwave, Ravage, Shockwave...that's where it's at...

Plus, my loyalty was rewarded: I selected "Decepticon" three times in the BK ROTF scratch-off promotion, and won a milkshake, an apple pie, and a breakfast sandwich!
Solarstorm
Decepticon.

I always enjoyed how they revel in their strength. Megatron and Starscream's ambitions, etc...

The Autobots sit around playing hoops and having snowball fights until the cons do something. They're very reactive. Plus, in series like BW, Megatron Origins, and Animated, it is hinted or directly implied that they are corrupt (and boy does the Elite Guard of Animated play that up).

The Decepticons are proactive (even though their schemes are ridiculous) and in some continuities an ambiguously noble group of rebels. They aren't any better morally than the most corrupt of Autobot (and far worse than the average good Autobot), but they at least have no qualms with proudly and boldly showing that. In those regards, they are actually less deceptive than their opponents.

The good guys:
Optimus Prime, ideal leader, hero, and general swell guy.
Multiple mad scientists.
Robot Dinosaurs
Elite special ops units
Movie Ironhide

Bad guys
Megatron: DECEPTICONS, retreat!
Starscream: World's most obvious backstabber
Shockwave: Badass in comics, I grant, but also world's lamest middle manager in the cartoon.

Gonna have to go with the angels on this one.
Ave Destron
decepticon.

EvilEyeSigma
Decepticons...

...In the comics. Where Starscream has more than half a brain, Megatron doesn't yell to retreat every issue, and Shockwave actually gets to DO SOMETHING.

On the other hand, there Rodimus was competent, Grimlock had a brain, and the Autobots had Xarron and the Wreckers.
Onyx Minor
Decepticons. I always prefer the bad guys. Of course, I prefer Predacons to Decepticons.
The REAL Chopperface
As much as I like displaying my Decepticon Toys more prominantly, I gott back my Boys The Autobots.
Rust
Autobots, hands down.
Canthros
I generally prefer the good guys.

Exactly!

So maybe Transformers are just better in the comics. icon-fire.gif
Master Fwiffo
Good question.

While Decepticons typically have more interesting designs and alt modes, it's the Autobots who litter more of my shelves, and it's usually Autobots who end up being my favorite toys. So, Autobots it is!

Sounds about right.
Necromancer Bob
My allegiance is with the extinction of humanity. So the Decepticons. Or Unicron. Whichever one will wipe out the squishies first has my vote.
Spin-Out!
Would my signature character be an Autobot if that wasn't the side I like better? My favorite Autobots have to be the core team from Animated + Wreck-Gar.

Admittedly, I like Decepticons, too. That's why me and Gunrage made characters like Animated Scourge, Slugslinger, Bonecrusher, Bludgeon, Sideways, and Scalpel Chopshop.

Long live the Decepticon Freedom Fighters!!

While some of my favorite molds are initially Decepticons, my favoritism always lies with the Autobots.

Damn! Deceptcons in the lead! Can't believe it. Come on Autobot fans.

What I love about Transformers is that the bad guys are as easy to be into as the good guys, and get about equal screen time.

BTW, big surprise, my favorite character is: Rodimus Prime

This.

Plus, let's face it, the 'Cons have more diverse and interesting alternate forms, when their forces aren't limited to a dozen repaints of Starscream.

Autobots? It's all car car car car dinosaur car car car car car motocycle car car car truck car.

Autobots. I like their alt modes better, their personalities (except in Japan where they have none), and generally favor the side that is more laid back than a bunch of overly violent thugs with a sense of entitlement.
Esser-Z
Neither. Make mine Maximals, Predacons, and Vehicons.
Snipershot
Cons all the way for me.
Sailor Unicron
Both, plus the factions in BW/BM. I can't choose just one faction. I like some one the Autobot side and some on the Decepticon side.

Heroic Decepticon!

Tindalos
I'm going to have to go with the big bad guys.

The ones whose arrogance is legendary.
The ones who enslaved a god and stole his power.
The ones who cracked time itself to alter their destiny.
The ones who can even withstand the power of cuteness without flinching.

You've reminded me that I should mention how much I absolutely love the Mayhem Supression Squad. Most lovably dorky squad of aft-kickers ever.

"Draw, pard'ner!" *pew*pew*
nutype
Wow surprised by all the Decepticon fans...

But although I think the Con's alt modes are "cooler" there is something blood and guts about the Autobots rolling around on 4 wheels battling these jet propelled menaces. I always got the sense that what the autobots lacked in raw power, they made up for with guts, courage and of course the leadership of Optimus Prime.

It's kind of a toss-up, but generally I prefer the Decepticons over the Autobots just because they're more fun. I'll try and break it down a bit more though:

G1: Decepticons.
The 'cons simply have the stronger personalities of the show and more of them. Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave (the voice alone), Shockwave, etc. Among the Autobots are a few favorites, but not enough to outweigh the 'cons.

BW: Maximals.
While I like both the Predacons and the Maximals to an obsessive degree, I find the group dynamic among the Maximals very entertaining and relatable. The Predacons are all great as individuals (barring Scorponok... and maybe even Terrorsaur) but as a group they're not as interesting to watch.

BM: Vehicons.
While I did like the Maximals, there were a few team members that were strike outs for me. Nightscream was an annoyance. I liked Botanica's voice, but her design wasn't my thing. Meanwhile, among the Vehicons there wasn't one weak link. They were all cool. Jetstorm, Thrust, Tankorr/Rhinox, Obsidian, Stryka and Megatron delivered every time and made the most out of their screen-time.

RiD: Predacons/Decepticons.
Admittedly, I don't really like the Preds and 'cons all that much. It's the rivalry between SkyByte and Scourge a.k.a. Gelshark and Black Convoy that I like. The rest of them were just canon fodder for all I cared. Still, those two are more entertaining than the rest of the Autobots combined.

Armada: Decepticons.
Seriously. This was an easy choice. Let's see, among the Decepticons we have Sideways, Starscream, Demolishor ("I ate them!"), Wheeljack and Megatron, who are all pretty cool. Among the Autobots we have... not as many guys that I'm interested in.

Energon: Decepticons.
With the exception of Megatron/Galvatron, I liked all the Decepticons in this show, even the yodelling Cyclonus (who I refuse to call Snowcat). Megs was easily the worst, most boring, most two-dimensional Megatron I've ever seen. He nearly makes the Decepticons as a whole completely worthless. On the other hand, there isn't one single solitary person among the Autobots that I have much of any interest in. Not one. *thinks for a second* . . . . . . well, maybe Rodimus before he turned over his command to Optimus, but even so.

Cybertron: Decepticons.
This is slightly tougher to decide just because there weren't many people on either side that I had a strong liking for. The Decepticons have Starscream, Scourge, Thunderblast and... sure, Ransack and Crumplezone. Meanwhile the 'bots have Override, Hotshot, Red Alert, and Vector Prime. Megatron/Galvatron and Optimus are once again extremely plain and boring (nauseatingly so). In the end I have to give it to the Decepticons thanks to strong performances by Starscream and Scourge. And I like that for once we get a transformer girl that's a ditz.

Animated: Autobots.
This is a really tough choice, because both sides are represented very well here. Lots of great personalities on both sides, lots of personal dramas and well-developed backstories and story-arcs. The rivalry between Optimus and Sentinel is the kind of drama amongst the good-guys that the Autobots have been lacking for a while now and makes these two just as interesting as G1 Megatron and Starscream were when they butted heads.

Movie: Decepticons.
A lot of people complained that the Decepticons didn't get hardly any representation in the movie, that they didn't even hardly talk. While this is true, it also kept them from saying anything stupid. Their crazy, evil actions spoke loud and clear, how's that! Most every "OMG!" moment in the movie occured when a Decepticon was on-screen. Megatron flying through a building. Barricade threatening to drive right over Sam. The panning camera going under Bonecrusher in mid-transformation at 80 mph. Starscream getting crazy with the fighter jets over the city. Scorponok. Blackout. You name it, all the craziest moments were Decepticon moments. The Autobots were fine, but only the 'cons made my jaw drop.
HeyMickey
I prefer Autobots in general, mainly because they tend to be more visually interesting to me. Too much use of dull and dark colors on the Decpticon side.
Caboose!
I personally prefer the Autobots/Maximals because they're the good guys.

Though I loves me some Vehicons.
Daith
I'm a dritfer to both sides but I tend to favor the Autobots more. It seems funny though considering I own more Decepticon clothing and a new Megatron wallet. As far as favorite characters it's always a three way tie between Prime, Megatron and Starscream. Unless it's the Cybertron series and then all my fanaticism is geared towards Vector Prime.

Beast Era I am definitely a Maximal though. I own few Predacons and there are only a few Preds I really like.

Classic Rack N' Ruin Wreckers, or new school Rotorbolt wreckers?
Dante
I had to go with Decepticons.

Even though Optimus Prime is my favorite character, there aren't that many other Autobots who appeal to me. Grimlock. Springer. Always had a soft side for Arcee. Don't judge!

As far as G1 goes, I find the Decepticons to be much more well-rounded and interesting characters than the Autobots, and it doesn't hurt that they pick the better alternate modes for the most part too.

This trend is reversed in Beast Wars, where any sympathies I might harbor for the Predacons (who doesn't love Waspinator and Inferno?) is overshadowed in a quite literal way by my favoritism for Depth Charge and Rhinox.

IDW Wreckers, up through Revelation. (Though I love the Universe Wrecker emblem, and wish it would be used more.)

Haven't touched AHM yet, don't really plan to.

I need to check out the Marvel-era ones, though. The mispacked comic that came with Springer and Ratbat was rather enjoyable. icon-hotrod.gif

I can do snowball fights and fishing in real life.
I already have my wish fulfillment car in real life.
I already make a difference in the world and help save lives in real life.

Decepticons all the way for MY hobby!

Edit: Oops, we were supposed to add in our faves. icon-hotrod.gif I favor large bombers and space jets, so Universe Cyclonus was a real treat for me. I own all the recolors/sculpts of Skyquake, brick that he is. Darkwing/Dreadwind. (I like bombers more than I dislike fanwank for Starscream, so his Machine Wars incarnation is indeed in my possession).
