There are a couple scattered threads about DC toys, but they're pretty specific (one about SDCC, another about Mattel's "bail out"). So I figured this could be a one-stop shopping thread for all of the various DC toylines.
Infinite Heroes continue to be marked down. Seriously, the one good thing about buying these is that nobody else seems to want to, so they're on clearance everywhere. The Battle for Metropolis box set was finally marked down, and between the discount and my $10 TF card, I got it for 20 bucks. Not bad at all, and now I've got enough Monitor points to get me an Anti-Monitor at SDCC.
New JLU toys are out! I found the Cheetah three pack the other day, and it's about damn time. Anyone find the Batman Beyond/Old Bruce/Warhawk pack?
Onyx Minor
Jul 4 2009, 06:32 AM
Great idea, Sean. I have been meaning to do this for awhile, but I never seem to remember when I am online.
BTW, what other JLU females are included in those 3 packs which I will likely never see? My daughters love JLU/DCIH female figures.
Sean Whitmore
Jul 4 2009, 03:36 PM
Quite a few, actually!
Fire and Ice come in a pack with John Stewart.
Galatea and Huntress come with Superman.
Supergirl comes with Captain Atom and John Stewart again.
And Wonder Woman comes with Flash and the Question.

So, per Scott from ETC over at The Fwoosh, it looks like the MSRP on DCUC has gone up. They may be $13 to $15 a piece soon.
Argh. Which means the Wal-Mart wave (which has Power Girl, Joker, and Man Bat it looks like) will be the last wave I can probably afford.

That is going to make things tough, but DCUC and MOTUC are the only things I buy now other than Transformers, and I am getting more selective about the TFs I buy. As long as I can actually find them, I plan on getting most DCUC.

Honestly, I'd almost forgotten what the Classics go for at mass retail. By necessity, I've collected the vast majority of this line via eBay and specialty shops.

Damn. That would suck. I have been fortunate enough to find everything up till this most recent wave. I shudder to think I am going to have to pay a huge markup just the get the Giganta wave.

I wasn't terribly enthused with this year's
JLU exclusive from SDCC (the Hal Jordan 3-pack), but I must say the swappable heads feature has me reconsidering.
"Hey, look! It's Year One Hal Jordan! *pop* And now it's Modern Age Hal Jordan!"
"Great. Where's his mask?"

... these are really hard to find up here anywhere outside of specialty shops and comic shops... Walmart has stopped stocking them after wave 2, I don't think Zellers ever had them... and Tru... they just got the 1st set of classic 2 packs in... and the beetleless half of the blue beetle wave.

You know, if they are decently priced, it might not be that big of a thing to buy and extra to paint the mask on. Of course, I'm not a fan of the JLU toys myself, so I'm not worried, but I know that everyone wants a correctly painted JLU Hal.
I sure hope my friend that is going to SDCC can come through on the Wonder Twins with Gleek.

DCUC Fan Poll choices are revealed!Personally, I'm torn between Toyman and Raven, but I figure she has a better chance of just getting made on her own merit. That version of Toyman is a must have. I would buy Geo Force and Captain Marvel Jr., but the other 2 options hold no interest for me.
Ursa Magnus
Jul 7 2009, 09:41 AM
I voted for Geo-Force, because I've always liked Brion. Though to be honest, I'm torn because I'd
love to have a Toyman to continue finishing off the Legion of Doom.
And don't get me started on the Wal-Mart exclusive waves. I love this line of figures, but they're damn near no-shows on the local pegs. I've been depending on BBTS to get these virtually from the start. And the fact that there's a wave with characters I
really want that's exclusive to somewhere that'll never actually have them on the pegs...?

Jul 7 2009, 10:26 AM
Ge-O-Force! Ge-O-Force! He'd put us one Katana away from a decent Outsiders lineup. (We'd still be missing Halo, but meh, who cares)
Toyman loses points for me if only because there are SO many Superman villains in this line already.

Jul 7 2009, 11:28 AM
Yeah, availabilty is a bitch. I have only one Wal-Mart in my immediate area that carries DCUC. We have not had a restock in over 2 months now. There is a lone Captain Cold hanging on the shelf. I worry that I will never see the Giganta wave.
As long as one of the 4 I mentioned wins the poll, I am good.

I got nothing to say here really besides:
I like the toylines (all. DCUC, JLU, DCIH). A lot. Especially since I like the DC chars.
I wish Mattel didn't suck at distro.
That's about it, really. Nothing else to add to the thread, but hey at least you got another person admitting to enjoying the lines!

I'm gonna vote for Libra. Even though Final Crisis fell flat, Libra was good in it.
Still have not seen DCUC 8 in-stores. The only Wave 8 figure I have, I bought at Things From Another World at Universal Studios back in May.

OK, a couple of things:
1) Wow *drool*
2) How was the quality of your Braniac? I still have not shipped my pile of loot from BBTS.
3) They need to give us a LOD Lex Luthor.
4) Where did you get the gun Lex is toting?

That Cheetah actually works pretty well. What is she, from the Justice line?
I hope when Mattel does finally release her, they include a variant of the were-cat version. The cheetah costume never really seemed like a credible threat against Wonder Woman.

2) How was the quality of your Braniac? I still have not shipped my pile of loot from BBTS.
Really good. I don't have any issue with him at all. Solid joints, good plastic, nice paint apps. Though you can see, the color between his arms and torso is slightly off. I've heard both cases of him matching and being like mine, so it seems to be hit-or-miss.
QUOTE
3) They need to give us a LOD Lex Luthor.
For nostalgia reasons, yeah. But personally, I like the more modern Power Suit Lex better.

QUOTE
4) Where did you get the gun Lex is toting?
It's from an X-Men Classics Series 2 Angel figure. I pulled it out of my Loose Weapons Cache, and thought it looked sufficiently bad@$$ for Lex to wield. Plus, it fits perfectly in his hand. It has two missiles that launch from the front.
QUOTE(Sean Whitmore @ Jul 9 2009, 08:23 AM)

Correct. I had originally intended to display the old DC Direct Superfriends Cheetah, but in looking for her, I came across my Justice one instead. And I like this one
far better.

That would be cool, but this is one of Ross' redesigns for Justice that I
really like. I'm hoping the Horsemen choose this version, but knowing their love of the Silver Age, we'll most likely get the Classic (Superfriends/Superpowers) Cheetah in some manner.

Inspired by Ursa's Cheetah pic and a recently-discovered Ravager in my storage bin, I started thinking about which DC Direct toys could fit into the Classics line. I was surprised how well Ravager fit; just a bit taller than Robin, which is forgivable, but still shorter than Starfire.

My comic shop had a lot of old Directs on clearance, so I picked a couple up. Some worked out, some didn't.

OMAC looks nice, and gets away with his size because: hey, scary robot.

The Qwardian weaponeer is just "eh". A little more muscular than this cannon fodder race usually produces, but whatever, no one says there can't be big Qwardians. I don't think I'll want to troop-build this one, though.

And I love the Toyman robot thing. Once again, size is no concern because of the robot rule. And if we do get a Classics Toyman, he's gonna need minions. Jimmy Olsen was a bit more disappointing. Just a smidge shorter than Superman, but overall too beefy. Ah, well, I've got a Silver Age Supes to pose him with.

If you missed out on the old KayBee exclusive Cyborg and Unmasked Batman Beyond, check your Wal-marts.
I remember seeing Cyborg a few weeks back and doing a double-take and wondering to myself if Terry would ever make an appearance... and lo and behold, he is mine.
Granted, I'm not too happy about the $13 price tag at Wal-mart, but it beats online prices easily.

Picking up the Brainiac 2-pack stung. Because as much as I wanted Brainy, this is now my THIRD red-and-blue Superman in this line. (5th if you count Electric and Resurrection Suit Supes) Shades of JLU collecting all over again. And between the red eyes and the cape that juts awkwardly out of his back, he's not even the best of the three.
I am sooo glad I have the DCSH Clayface already. Last thing I need is a third Batman, and one covered in mud, no less. (That said, anyone who doesn't have Clayface should get the 2-pack, because he's mighty keen)
Between the Brainy set, the Matty Collector Ultraman set, the Scarecrow I won on eBay this week, and the Wonder Twins I'll be getting at SDCC, July will have been a big DCU month for me.

Both Parademons are excellent. The green one because he's comic accurate, and the red one for SuperPowers nostalgia. The red one does actually seem to be more poseable. Personally, I prefer the green one though.
And Steel is an excellent figure as well. Whether you decide to make him Commander or Citizen, he'll fit in great with you JSA setup.

Here is the "love" part of my love/hate relationship with Mattel.
This line:

Burton-Movie Batman! Power Girl! Robot Man! ZEBRA BATMAN!!!
I'll gladly rebuy a Joker that's this much improved. And is this Man Bat a repaint of the white exclusive from 2007? I've never really seen it to compare.
Sean Whitmore
Jul 24 2009, 08:28 PM
And here is the "hate" part.
If Mattel had its way, I would own more copies of Batman and effing Superman toys than I've had hot meals.

Icicle and Silver Banshee are nice. Major Force is great. And I want to create Brimstone.
And I have to buy a fourth Superman, a third Batman, and a second Black effing Lightning to do it.
This line's awesomeness is just barely edging out Mattel's "Mr. Haney"-esque business practices.
