Oh good lord, as soon as the director came on and announced himself, I was about ready to close the tab.
At the very least though, it's his own movie, so it doesn't really matter.
Okay watching the whole thing, it at least looks cheesy enough to be interesting. Like a corny seventies disaster movie made with today's effects.

I've been intrigued ever since the teaser came out...what...a year ago? I think it was attached to Cloverfield, I forget.
Anyway. Mayan prophecy. I'm totally in.
Though I suspect Devestator probably has more polygons in him than the USS JFK AND the giganto-wave combined.

Meh.... I just no longer care for these type of Disastor movies anymore...
It's like Noah's Ark mixed with what Revalations, and Mayan Mysticism, with prolly some type of polictical underlining tone.
Just too much camp for me. Granted I'll rent it, but meh....

Yeah but you know the award for best special effects will go to this movie anyway because no self-respecting organization will give an award to a giant robot with wrecking balls.

2012 looks pretty, I'll give it that. But there's no real hook there, aside from the expected vague prophecy and government survival plan. I also know nothing about the protagonists, that's another movie trailer no-no.
On a different note, this may be the first time we've seen movie footage of an airplane fly by two buildings and (presumably) not carry any 9/11 subtext. Just something that caught my eye.

Scientifically and historically inaccurate? Check.
Silly Acting? Yep.

Ripoff of a story from at least 20 other movies I've already seen? Yep.
Lots of crowd and Fwiffo pleasing destruction? Hell yeah!

That sounds like every day.
I swear, last week or so I had my alarm clock on "start radio" instead of the usual high beep in the hopes that it would make my morning easyer.
I woke up to the news that Korea (the one with the guy with the tupé and glasses wich makes him look a bit like Elton Johns alien cousin) had nuclear weapons and being all Napoleonic about it. Nothing brightens up the day as mutually assured destruction.

There is expected to be an increase in solar activity in 2012. It's nothing we haven't been through before, we just haven't had the electronic infrastructure that we have today when it's happened in the past. If I recall it was when electricity was in it's infancy and some wires started fires last time we had a bad one.
Really not seeing how it could translate to tidal waves and jive falling from the sky though...

I know a Mayan Prophecy/2012/Dinosaur-human footprint fossil/Nibiru person. It's hard to have a conversation sometimes, and I can't wait to hear him explain how all of this stuff will be real.

People like to assume that because the Mayan calendar ends in 2012, something significant happens. Well guess what, our calendar ends every freakin' year and nothing cataclysmic yet!
The only part of this which was interesting to me was the airlifted giraffe and the idea of big civilization-preserving arks. (I'm assuming these are spaceships that were being built?) That to me is the interesting storytelling, and I'd much rather see a movie all about that than about the natural disasters on crack. Of course, Titan AE covered some of that. And as noted, dozens of other movies have covered most of the rest of this movie.
Day After Tomorrow was fun with some drinks and friends and specifically for the purpose of laughing at, this one might be too.
