Yep. I was 11. My mom said I couldn't go see the movie, so I went over to my grandpa's house, told him I was going to play at a nearby friend's and then walked about 3 miles up the road to the theater to see it with some of my mowing money.
It was a stunned walk back.

The first Movie was the first film I ever saw in a cinema. Still remember the commercial trailers before the actual film, and that I wore an Optimus Prime sweatshirt bought from WoolCo. It was in a run-down old cinema that's still around as of the modern era, as I passed it earlier today on a trip out. Would be interesting to go and see Revenge of the Fallen in there, but then according to the website they're only showing RotF on the 14th to 20th of August, and I'd rather see it closer to home and before all the spoilers become common knowledge.

I saw it at the one-screen theater downtown, with my brother and cousin. It was in that theater for exactly one week, and the theater itself no longer shows movies (it's a community playhouse).

I have a vague memory of my dad taking me to see it, and getting me the Ultra Magnus voice changer (I think I won it there or something).
And then of course I saw it in a theatre again in 2006 in Lexington

I was 5 at the time, not that would have stopped me but I was a Go-Bots kid. The first time I saw TF:TM was when my dad rented it form me. I was surprised that they killed off Prime, but not too shock up about it. It's odd that even as a kid that picked Go0Bots over Transformers I knew who Prime was.

Saw it at the Carmike Cinema (which no longer exists) at Fox River Mall (which DOES) with my younger brother.
Didn't get to see it again until we had moved to (West) Germany in 1989 and my mom recorded it (text-scroll and all) offa AFN.
(VCR broke before the tape did, but it was a close thing, I bet.)

Thinking about it now, my parents told me (when driving by the Southbridge McDonald's) that we had a choice of seeing Transformers or Great Mouse Detective (my two brothers and I). We chose Transformers. We saw it not long after that (not the same day) and we stopped at a mall afterwards (what mall I have no idea) and my brother got the Wendy's Kids Meal (?) Go-Bot Oddball afterwards. I wonder what mall that was...

I saw it when I was 8. Every Sunday I'd try and get my dad to take me to see it, going as far as putting shoes on his feet and trying to lift him up out of his chair. It took about 6 Sundays of harassment. but he eventually cracked and took me. I'm glad I persisted, although being older I now realize he busted his ass all week and just wanted to relax and NOT see some movie about robots.

I never saw it in theaters (Too poor), but my folks rented it for me as soon as it hit VHS.
When Megatron blew Ironhide away at point blank range I remember feeling extremely sad. Optimus' Death was fitting to me - he got to at least say goodbye and he took Megatron with him.
But the deaths Ironhide and Wheeljack hit me hard (My two favorite Autobots). Then Galvatron blew Starscream away, and I suddenly went from despondent and sad to "AWESOME!" and I was able to enjoy the rest of the movie (Though for the longest time, I thought Optimus' spirit had possessed Hot Rod to become Rodimus Prime).

Saw it in the theater once when I was little, although I had apparently repressed a bunch of it until I finally got a VHS copy a year or two later, then all the deaths (besides Optimus Prime's) seemed to hit a bit harder.
Also saw the film screening of it at BotCon 2000. That was a decent experience (aside from all the people taking flash pictures), and finally seeing Hot Rod in magenta again was great. I had the sticker album which also showed him in magenta since it was taken from a flim source and not the VHS transfer, but finally seeing it on the big screen again set off a memory that screamed "YES! This is how he was originally colored!" It wasn't until 2006 that we got a remaster that was closer to the original film colors.

I saw it 4 times in the theaters, I was 14 or 15. And Grimlock said "Me Grimlock kick
ASS!" all 4 times. People fight me on this all the time & insist he only ever said "kick butt". Back then the big buzz was over the 3 swear words in a kids animated movie. I'll probably never be able to prove it. They took the "S" word out & then put it back in which further proves that they did mess with it after it was done in theaters. But all the resident know-it-all's & self proclaimed "experts" (that were probably only 2 at the time) will insist I'm wrong.
So all you guys that weren't born yet, know this, Grimlock originally said "KICK ASS" in the movie theaters! And it was friggin awesome!!!

Oooh wow, i saw "Great Mouse Detective" that summer too in 1986 including "Howard The Duck" and of course the underrated cult horror fantasy "Making Contact (a.k.a. Joey)" (Remember this one? the one about the kid with psychic powers batting a demonic ventriloquist dummy and demons)?
Anyone else suprised they got away with the S word?

I was born in April 1986, so far too young. First time I actually saw it was I believe about a decade ago when we had Sky Movies. The afternoon slots tended to be filled with old kids movies, with this being a regular. I don't think I saw the whole thing at the time, just the opening and ending battles (complete with the 'Optimus Prime will return' narration). I didn't get to see it in full until I was older and could buy stuff like the DVDs.....kind of fun but it's very messy

Plus Prime's death scene just sucks all the enthusiasm out of it for me.

I was 5 at the time it came out; I don't think I was aware of its existence, though I did like TFs/Gobots. Maybe mom thought it would be too intense or something...Mom remembers it being shown locally, after all. In any case, I saw it as soon as it came out on video, and then saw it in the theater at Botcon 2000.
In any case, I saw the 2007 Transformers four times in the theater, one of those times in IMAX...I'm not compensating for missing the original, honest!

Just that my best friend and I had to see it twice (As we do any awesome movie), then we went to see it with another friend (converting her to Transformers...she buys her own now, muahahaha)...annnd then the IMAX, which I was only free in my schedule to see.

Ah yes TF:TM in theaters aka the day my Childhood died
I was 9 at the time
I remember My dad took me with my friend to a thater downtown that I'm sure no longer exists, I was of course stunned by all the deaths, especially primes. Still I'm pretty sure I found the movie to be loads of awesome. I remember saying as I came out of the movie "WHen I'm playing with the toys I'm not basing myself off the movie" so there must have been some Denial action going on. My Dad said he slept through the movie, at the time I was horrified that he could sleep through the most traumatic event of my young life
Despite all the trauma, It didn't stop me from renting the Video for like a Zillion times Afterwards, So I think I got over it pretty fast

Saw it in the theater when I was 12. Really wanted to go, went with my only friend who still liked Transformers too, had a great time. Didn't really care who died, as I was mostly excited for the new toys that I still couldn't afford but looked cool as hell. I remember standing around in the parking lot afterward waiting to be picked up more vividly than I remember sitting through the movie. We were excited and jumping around like morons. Cloudy day but still bright out. That theater is gone now, after taking a long journey into jiveville. But I still remember that parking lot.
I don't remember if Grimmy said 'Ass' or not, but I doubt it. I remember the 'jive' tho'. Smokey and the Bandit had taught me to swear a few years before that, so I didn't feel it was any big deal at the time.

Inspired by this thread and remembering my first childhood trip to the cinema, I've made TF:TM my first Blu-ray purchase. I have no idea why, seeing as I don't - as an adult - actually like it that much. But, hey, I guess all this big hobby of ours is all a bit nostalgic really.

As far as the "kick ass" line, I was 15 and don't remember that, and we were waiting for the swear words. Even before the days of instant internet information, we knew about Prime dying and the "S" bomb.
